Have you played the firefly board game? Now there is some paper money done well! It’s no where as easy to handle as the iron clays but sure does add to the thematic immersion.
Some of my favourite accessories in your list. I love neoprene mats that you can roll up and travel with (I have one for Red Rising and Wingspan - but I like the idea of neutral ones for any game). I love the look and feel of metal coins and bought the ones for Scythe, Viticulture, Libertalia and Raiders of the North Sea (I should be getting an extra set when my copy of the KS of Shipwrights of the North Sea gets fulfilled). Love portable token holders and dice trays - I have a few. Also love my large board game bag that I can transport lots of games on holiday or to games night. My favourite accessory is actually a piece of furniture - my board game table, that has a removable topper that converts it into a dining table, with LED’s and beer holders !!! Best 50th birthday present ever.
Wow, yeah I'd say that's a nice birthday gift! I love my game table, but it's a hard thing to recommend because of the price tag. I have one of the big BoardGameTables.com game bags and I use it pretty often. It's much easier than using several reusable grocery bags!
I like to put round cardboard game pieces into coin capsules that make them feel better especially if you are grabbing tokens from a bag. I do like to upgrade pieces as well, but prices and high postage charges make it very expensive, even more than the game itself. I do like folded space inserts as well, but they don't aways support the games I have.
Coin capsules are great! I use them for the Arkham Horror LCG. I think if I were going to get an insert I’d probably go with Folded Space…keep the boxes fairly light still.
I agree with pretty much this whole list. I was never much on the play mats, until I got one, now, if any game offers the play mat, I order it along with the game. And I’m also huge on metal coins for any game that has money like you I do not like cardboard or paper money, metal coins, all the way
