My Favorite Vintage Math Book Series 

To anyone wanting to buy from this series, Number Stories is a newer name of the same published books Study Arithmetics. Study Arithmetics 3 is the same as Number Stories 3. According to public library archive, under the book Study Arithmetics 3, it says: "Vols. 7-8 also published under the title: Mathematics and life, books 1-2 Bk. 3 is also published under the title: Number stories, book 3"

Laurel! Thank you so much! This was incredibly helpful. So it does look very similar to Strayer Upton‘s first book, the first half anyways because that book is for grades three and four. The only difference I see is that the beginning half with just addition and subtraction goes more in depth in number stories than it is in Strayer Upton’s book one, which is exactly what I think is needed before starting Strayer Upton. Last night after seeing your Instagram post, I just decided to look again for book 3 of number stories and I came up on one! It should be here next week so excited for my third grader who is still struggling a bit in math, so would be in a second grade level, according to Strayer Upton levels. Thanks again, Laurel!!

These books are so hard to find. I found books 1 and 2 in the public domain in digital pdf, but I cannot find book 3 in any form.

Where were you able to find this edition? I am struggling to find one.

I wish my kiddos were younger. I would have used these in a heartbeat! So sweet and simple. I think I am going to transition to Strayer-Upton and/or Ray's.

Which grade is this book recommended for? And what grade does this series stop?

I'm planning to use Mcguffey readers for next yr and now I'm obsessed with using vintage curriculum 😂 I'd love to use number stories book but not sure exactly which book to start and not confident enough to teach it without some type of step by step guide...we're currently using math with confidence 1st grade book and halfway through it....which book would you recommend starting next yr? Have you heard of first year in number by Hoyt and Peet? What do you do if you need answers to these problems? What are you planning to use after number stories book?
