Thanks. Glad this is still up! Some of us are still using the GH4 professionally (for real estate video, in my case). It's just nice to check and see if I'm missing anything. I'm not. Just gotta find the "sweet spot" of aperture and ISO without letting depth of field get too shallow so I can keep using autofocus. Hard to manage manual focus while ninja-walking through a room with a camera on a gimbal.
I'm about to get a GH4 this week and the 25mm f1.7 lens! Would you share more about the sweet spot? I know it's kinda hard to manage autofocus. Currently I have a Lumix G7 and a Zhiyun Crane Gimbal and I use manual focus all the time.
Hi, do you have any idea why my Gh4 video photage coming out dark when I export to my Mac book pro 16 inch. I have done the perfect settings and followed the instructions of RU-vidrs regarding Gh4 setup. When I record and the video photage (1080/1920, full hd 100mbs/200mbs) coming clear bright and beautiful on camera monitor, however when I export the videos to Mac book, it’s coming darker. How to resolve this issue... as I read many articles some says it might be because of a Mac book screen color caliberation.. but I think it’s not .. because when I make video or photo on IPhone 10s, it’s coming exact clear in my Mac as what looks in mobile phone .. I don’t know what’s the issue... I have roof light on, 2 led lights on, 400-800 ISO, aperture 3.6, shutter 50, auto white balance.. I don’t know where’s the problem.. plz any suggestions or solutions. Thank you
@@helloapple556 Which profile are you shooting with, Cinelike D, log...? I don't know which are the settings on your camera and Mac, it could be anything, but there are some things you can check. Is the footage dark in all players and editors? Is it dark in the shadows or in the highlights as well? It could be a color profile issue, as in you're recording with for example 0-255 and you're playing it as 16-235... You could check your videos or screenshots in some color correction software to see if the charts are correct or they show the video is really dark. Also, make sure your monitor is indeed well calibrated. And of course don't underexpose your footage - but don't overexpose it either! Hope it helps.
@@SergiMedina thank you, actually I m shooting with Cinelike D (00000, I also tried -5,-5,-5,0+2 ) 3.6 aperture 180 Degree shutter, AWB, 400-800 ISO, one roof light , 2 led lights, but same darkness issue..in my Mac I only have QuickTime player, and I shoot with 0-255,,, I didn’t understand “ I might playing with 16-235” is player have this thing? I tried once to calibrate my Mac monitor but I watched several videos people say Mac monitor is already 95% calibrated,, however I still tried but don’t know how to exactly caliberate my Mac book.. As when I see my recording or recorded videos on camera monitor, they are very clear , bright, sharp,, but when just export them to my Mac book, they become nightmares,, even my iPhone 10x max camera videos is 1000 times shows better results than this huge camera, I m so frustrated with. It literally wasted me a month to just setup millions times but no improvement. One guys says I should buy new lens which stop is F 1.8 would be clear.. But this kit lens with so many lights still have so bad results then this camera have what use, phone camera results is millions times better to honest,, sorry, I m really so upset with this camera, that’s why I ask others maybe I got some pinpoint
@@helloapple556 The lens isn't the problem if you are shooting properly exposed anyway. Are you using zebras, exposure meter and just about anything to make sure you're properly exposing every scene. I think your problem might be the color profiles or spaces. Try to shoot 16-235. It doesn't have as much color information as 0-255, but 0-255 isn't frequently used and can cause problems with many players and even editing software (if they're not good or you don't adjust them properly). Try it and see it it looks any better. Try different players and if you can another screen. If you're shooting with a GH4 just in MP4 or MOV with everything normal and good exposure you should see a normal picture in your monitor. You could also try to check the color profile you have set on your monitor. I don't know how it's in Apple, but in Windows you can change it and that can cause problems if you set any other than the standard sRGB. Hope this helps.

Dave I respect you for all the time you put into helping us out. I really need your personal opinion on something. I'm looking at getting back into dslr video after years of being out of the game. I love the low light and shallow DOF of the full frame A7s, but that is out of my budget. I'm between a used 5d mkii (to which I'll install magic lantern and shoot raw) vs a gh4 with a speedbooster. With the speed booster and a fast lens, can the GH4 do well in low light or is it still a noisy mess? Thank you kindly, -James
Hey Dave! I bought this course back when it first came out and I got my GH4. It is great! Curious though, why upload this excerpt from a course, on a camera that is relative outdated? (I still use mine) Did you do one for the GH5? (I don't have one and I'm thinking of switching to Sony like you did) Anyway, thanks for the great content you produce :)
I have a question: I'm using a GH4. I have the hardware switched to AFS/AFF and my software is set to AF+MF ON. I want to use Pinpoint AF at all times, but when I press record it changes to 1-Area and pinpoint becomes greyed out. I've been trying for days to fix this, because it seems like it suddenly happened one day when I changed lenses. I even reset the camera, but I can not find the answers to this anywhere. Why is this happening?

That's AWESOME! LOL. I just purchased a GH4 & Chose it to allow the funds for purchasing a Voigtlander 10.5mm F/0.95, GH4 BATTERY GRIP, Rode video mic pro and other lens etc. I manual focus only. I use the Voigtlander 17.5mm, 42.5mm & 10.5mm F/0.95 amongst other vintage lens
The autofocus on this camera is atrocious. I bought it for video and it's basically unusable for anything except the most basic stuff, and if you're filming yourself it's impossible. This is a joke compared to Sony and Canon which are just leagues ahead in AF. I'm looking to upgrade or switch and will probably sell my lenses and get out of Panasonic's ecosystem once and for all
