my Indian ringneck does that too, but he only does it when he's hungry! and I think it's cuz he injured his wing somehow! So I'm giving him a little massage every day now, when I'm done with the massage he stops it for 15 minutes or so .. little bit concerned about him but I hope he does better in few days !

I love capturing calm behaviors so much, it simply helps my bird to calm down easier and be the gentle boy he is
@whatk8edo153
@whatk8edo153 Год назад
When teaching calm today by bird was continually offering the yoga pose and wings up as a trick. It was the first day he had done those 2 poses he does for attention and got a treat for them. Confused if I ignore them to only reward calm or if it will deter him from the tricks I have him offering for treats.

When I say her name to my grey, she would often say "What do you want ?" then I say what I want her to do , like the cat or the lion, and she does it. She will always comply to what I ask if I get the "What do you want ?" response from calling her name, it feels like having a conversation with her, so cute ! I didn't train for it, it came by itself ! So I'm trying to capture this behaviour now and have her say it each time I say "Mémère ?" (it's her name). I rarely use other rewards but praises, but it would go faster if I did, but I'm lazy and also watching her weight and she'd work only for nuts or bits of cake, so I prefer to praise her most of the time. I keep nuts for desensitization and recall training.

@FlyguyDePanam
@FlyguyDePanam 3 года назад
@@adorapollard7308 Yeah, I also think she really knows what's she is saying. She is almost 19 now ! And she's always grasping more things as time go by, it never stops. it never cease to amaze me ! Often people won't believe me when I speak of the things she does, they think I'm crazy, and eventually they meet her, and it's like she changes their vision of the animal world ! By being so darn smart, clowny and sensible at the same time, able to enjoy music and dance like we do ! She is social, she likes people and sometimes, she will just walk to someone she just met, bow her head down and say "you do some cuddles !" :) (I'm translating everything, she speaks mostly french) She is one of a kind, they are all I guess ! I feel very lucky to share her life.

@@sunsundks3891 cake is very rare, only for special occasions / important desensitization when she needs lots of motivation to go against something she fears, usually, she'll work fine for bits of nuts. I found that capturing secures a behaviour quicker than training it sometimes. My 8 month old GCC, picks up named objects and puts them in my hands, when you say give me a kiss, he leans forward and makes a kiss sound. He now copies my saying thank you afterwards. My son bobbed his head up and down in front of Sprout, so I put that on cue to 'yes' so now you can ask him questions that he will nod too. He's just learnt to say yes as well. He makes the sound of our squeaky tap, so I put that on cue with 'cup of tea?' I'm just starting to put bathing behaviour on cue. I taught him to spin and flip using target training and he will also go to bed on cue. He is learning at such a fast rate. He was clicker and target trained from 8 weeks old.

I love that you found these videos too but what i love even more is you doing some research!!!! If you are going to get one from a breeder ask if you can visit the bird once a week and spend half an hour to an hour just playing with it. Get it used to being with you and being handled while your there. Youll have a much stronger bond when its old enough to bring home. For the rest of the week keep researching and by researching i mean find out stuff like diet requirements (not just what a petstore would say!) and tips and tricks for a healthier happier bird. For example learn to fold origami foraging treats or work out ways to keep your little one entertained in their cage. Also find out about different ways of training etc and get yourself super prepared. It also gives you the chance to see if a quaker is the right bird for you! Good luck!

Hello beautiful! Oh thank you so much for the video! I taught my female ringneck how to lift her wings. It took her 1week to learn. She was on her perch and time to time she was lifting her wings, so in that moment I used my clicker and rewarded her. So, today i just use the word "wings" and she lift them.

Hi... When I say to my cockatiel "bisous, bisous" he gives me a kiss making the sound and he says "bravoooo", I didn't teach him to say that, he memorized it on his own, even the sound! I love that so I capture that behavior and give him a treat or I reward him with words or caresses... Thanks for the freebies! You're great
@lastlight4252

Birds often duet. I trained my bird to say certain things by giving her my full attention and saying it back if it were a noise that reminded me of some words. Now, she says Good Baby first thing in the morning when she is hoping to be let out of the cage. She also says You're so Sweet, Yada yada yada, Cute Baby, achew (sneeze ; I didn't even notice she was picking it up), You're so Cute. She uses the phrase combinations n different contexts, clearly asking for different things OR indicating she is interested in something. I also can change her mind about what to do by saying a phrase that corresponds to a different behavior, and she will switch to something else like hiding and reappearing from behind a book. I have never used a food reward or a clicker because I do not need to train her for free flight, for example. Wouldn't do that because I might mess up, and she would pay the price. I just need her to play on her own sometimes and come sit with me sometimes and snuggle sometimes. She lifts her foot when she expects me to pick her up, of course she trained me on that one. She was so cute, I just had to extend my finger. However, at this point, I have to get up and walk across the room to get her; she doesn't fly to me. So I am starting to work on training her to fly to me.
@tzxazrael
@tzxazrael 3 года назад
clicker training isn't limited to free flight. same with food rewards. it's a motivational tool: teach the bird that "click" = treat, and you get a click when you do the thing you were asked. it's the same as saying "good bird!" or such. but then again.. you know what works for you xD

1:45. A friend of mine used the command "better" (do it better) as a universal command to signal his pet (dog) he was on the right track but was not at treat-threshold. Replaces "All the way!", "A bit more!" "do it again" by something way snappier :).

Whenever I click to capture a behavior, my bird goes into training mode and starts begging with her favorite tricks (usually saying "hi", waving, and spinning). Of course, once she starts doing this, she stops doing the behavior I want. It takes a while for her to understand what I want her to do, but she always gets it eventually!

My TAG came to me already knowing multiple vocalizations, including kissy noises. So “give kisses” was the first thing I captured and put on cue. Now it is a really great way for him to let people know he wants to interact. If he is offering kisses then I know he wants to earn seeds and will train and interact 😊

This is the real clicker training, as Karen Pryor started using it with dolphins and later dogs. Basically just catch the animal when it does a natural behavior that you like it to do and click, marking that you want that behavior and then reinforce it with the treat. Simple! This tells your animal that it should try offering you different behaviors, to test if they are wanted. That is when it gets real fun training, because you now have a language and means of communication. I just fell in love with his when I started using clicker training in 1998, after rescuing my first dog, who had bad anxiety. It was so obvious that this was the way! 👏😍😊

He probably likes fruit because that's also high in sugar and is more of a "treat" than healthy vegetables are. Maybe if you make a fine chop with fruit and veg, and mix it up with mushed up sweet potato or some other "binding" squishy food (so the different foods stick together and get stuck on the beak a little) that way the bird has to try the vegetables if they want the tasty fruit they enjoy. You keep clickers and treat pouches all around? I'm sure those treat pouches don't go unnoticed! LOL ;) Great video as always. I learn so much from all of them.

Most of my training is done with capturing with Rocky the Alexandrine parakeet. I have trained him to whistle when I say whistle it off and to make a galah noise that he already made when I say cocky boy as well as to make a kiss noise when I say give me a kiss and a few other little things. It tends to work better for me than the other things because I use words rather than visual aids like with most of the other formal training.

I just got a couple of Lori's and I used this video to train them to 'boop' my nose. Since the female tried to play with my glasses she often accidentally touched my nose. So I used that. Now both of them can boop our noses on cue.

My late budgie used to flap his wings vigorously when he was excited. I taught him to do it on command which was completely adorable. Funnily enough though if my dad asked him to flap his wings, he'd instead do really cute happy tweets! This wasn't through clicker/treat training - just a lot of enthusiasm when he got it right.

I just got my first parrot, a cockatiel. It has been i think 23 days, she is aviary raised and i am her first human interaction. She can already step up, step down, wave, and recall. I have tamed her in 20 days. And this is my first bird. We aren't quite bonded, but we are getting close.

I can't wait to use this method for my sun conure, Tango. She was taught how to give a single kiss on cue, but that was just from mimicking the noise at first until I added the cue word. I can say "gimme kiss" or just "kiss". Sometimes she's so quiet though it sounds like a sneeze. She knows how to say "hey baby", "I'll bite you", and "stop it". Problem is, she only does it when she sees someone she doesn't like. Right now that includes everyone in my household except me. She's my little guard bird apparently. Her saying these phrases is also paired with aggression. Her neck and head feathers go out to make herself look bigger and she does a little sway motion. I want to teach her to say the phrases on cue, but also not have the aggression paired with it. Does anyone have any advice for this? I'm sure capturing will be the first step I need to take.

A resource on cage do’s and don’t would be nice. For example I prefer not to use grates with my birds and I have a glass cage that I switched to that works great n my birds love

I capture taught my ringneck to raise and flap her wings with capturing! Whenever I had treats and I would start walking away she’d flap her wings to get my attention so I used that and now she does it on cue 😊

Jinx voice sounds just like a person. My GC conure Cricket would always do 1 quick spin all the way around whenever she knew she was getting a trick.. so now she will do it on command when I ask her to..she also showed her boyfriend Zion ( my male GC) how to do the same .

Yes. I captured big wings with my young conure because she did the big wings every time she pooped. So as soon as the wings went out, before the poop, I clicked and gave it a name. I have a new brown head parrot whose owner couldn’t afford to keep her, and I asked he what tricks she knew. She said she had tried in vain to teach her big wings, but she was doing them for me but I didn’t have a clicker.

Help needed! I have a Quaker parrot and he is very territorial and doesn’t step up, I’ve had him for a minute now so he is comfortable around me, he isn’t too scared but he just won’t step up. I want to try target training, I’ve ordered the stick and the clicker on amazon! But I have no idea where to start. All the videos I search up are only showing parrots that are already trained. What treats should I use as a rewards since he is a medium sized bird? Please help! All replies are appreciated.

Hey I have a question so I want an African gray but ima 13 year old so obviously I'd have to deal with school and I read an article where they don't like being left in a cage by themselves and id worry it'd get lonely and start plucking feathers but all other times I would be able to have it out and socializing. Would that be fine and if not how can I fix this issue
