The song in the beginning just hit me in the feels. How you layer your parts is nothing short of amazing. You're on a different level Cici and I can't wait to see the rest of music world acknowledge it in the coming years.
I've got a 99 natural bubinga/wenge german Corvette and I kinda feel I'm not remotely worthy owning that thing. I got many very nice guitars but.. There is something really special about the Warwick bass for sure... Big up 2 the guys and gals @ Framus/Warwick! 🤘👍 Great video btw
I owned a Warwick Corvette Standard with a Bubinga body. In my opinion, the Warwick Corvette is the standout model in the Warwick series. The Thumb or Dolphin Pro I are a bit excessive, leaning extremely towards the distinctive Warwick style, whereas the Streamer doesn't quite capture that quintessential Warwick essence. The Corvette is the perfect fit for me
Very happy that you decided to do this as well. I've been waiting for you to do a video on this bass. . I love Warwick. Your corvette is beautiful. I own a warwick thumb 5 string pro series myself. I love the song/jam at the intro. ALL QUITE. I have become a big fan. . . .
WoW‼️ Look at the craftsmanship all around and an organizer with tools nicely place beside your specs , picture after production in a notebook folder , now that’s really awesome .. … Also glad to hear your home is getting together 👍
The way you and Dave have the ability to create awsome soundscapes is a thing of beauty love your solo work and looking forward to the new trio album there is great things on the horizon for sure blessings
@@CiciVonStrangelove the bass spoke of a story of what your fingers told it to say and what your fingers told it came from within you , that’s real music 🙌🙌🎸🎶🎶🎶
All quiet…all amazing!!! Absolutely astonishing! The wood grain is beautiful, and the tone is so earthy and mellow…ahhh :) Once again another amazing improv jam! I started on double bass, and when I got my first elec in 7th grade I still remember thinking that the fret markers were like having a Game Genie haha it was like a cheat code (not to mention having FRETS!). I’m well impressed at how you play so well with just the side markers! Keep it up, you badass!! Thanks for kicking my weekend off just right 😎👍
So happy you get to record videos again! Hoping for a speedy progress! Wish I got to see ya when I was in the uk but there’s a chance of going back soon! 🤘
The very first bassline gives me major E1M5 vibes from Doom 1. Beautiful playing as always! I really like how you use the entire bass as a complete standalone instrument, and not just for repeated quarters/eighths of root notes over and over like so many people. It's very inspirational for me as a beginner bass player.
That’s awesome, I love that soundtrack/game! (Although it wasn’t intentionally inspired by it) :) Thank you so much for the kind words, it really means a lot for me to hear that too :)
When you start playing on a bass with that kind of clarity it really teaches you to clean up your playing if you know what I mean. It reveals everything as opposed to say a p bass which is more forgiving in terms of what you can get away with. But I’ve always noticed you are a pretty accurate player as it is so probably no worries for you 😊! Congratulations this is a beautiful bass and like you said it absolutely sound fantastic!!! Cheers!!!
Couldn’t agree more with your assessment. I have the exact same bass except active. And a 5 string double humbucker corvette. Swapped to the brass nut on both and they are simply brilliant in every way.
I just discovered your channel cos I’ve been looking at Warwick basses. The piece at the beginning is amazing. Exactly what I’m looking to do. Very haunting. 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
great sounding bass, never played a Warwick but looks to be top quality and well balanced and comfy. The bass plays nicely with pedals too. Glad you're able to get to the room now. Excellent playing, thanks for sharing and stay safe!
just updgraded my bass with those dynamic correction pickups + 3 CTS pots being 500k for vols and 1 250k for tone with push/pull for seires/paralell. It really is someting else!!! Great playing as always!
I really wish I had it in me to write tunes like these. You've got a serious talent. Lovely bass, I'm considering a Warwick Corvette 5 string at the moment, I think it'll be a great metal bass
Wonderful bass with a perfect sound, the music you make with it is ethereal :)) My favourite bass is an ibanez EHB1506MS, it's my dream to own one one day. I think you could do some awesome stuff with a six string.
I am overjoyed to learn that you were able to finally escape the confines of the tent. You are more relaxed, and in great form. The long-awaited team-built Warwick Corvette was a success! It is obvious the fondness you have for that instrument. I was shocked when you revealed that the electronics are passive! It's timbre, punch, growl, and overall clarity are usually indicative of active pickups, and preamp combination. This bass looks as good as it sounds. All three compositions were very Cici-esque." The genius layering, and pitch rolls emerge cleanly with a quality instrument. I heard some tasteful dissonance (if there's such a term) during one of the songs. I dug it all. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend. Also, the glorious hard shell bag wasn't featured. Perhaps in your subsequent episode(s). Well done, as always. Cheers!
Yeah, you are absolutely not joking. That is one clear sounding bass. In a good way, though. And how on earth is that not active, with such highly reactive tone controls... and the sheer punch from those pickups... It sounds a hell of a lot nicer than older Warwicks with Bartollini's, that's for sure! This one has a great sound for rock. And if somebody had told me 30 years ago that I'd be saying that about a Warwick, I'd have fallen over laughing, yet... here we are!
That tone is monstrous.IMO as a luthier passive done properly (spec and set up) is far superior to active. Less amplifiers between your fingers and the speakers and no batteries to catch you out 4 numbers into a live set. Very happy for you to have found a "proper keeper"! Good to see you installed back in your home bass base at last.
Thank you so much :) the first track is the Mel 9, and Polara on the reverse mode, second is the Mel 9 and polara again! And third is the Rat, Dr. Strangefuzz by Hubcap John, and the Del Fuego by Sutton Instruments (I have demos on all of them) :)
Thanks! I recently acquired a Walrus fundamentals reverb, partly because it works well for both guitar and bass (more or less the same reason for buying a Rat a few years ago). No reverse mode, though.
I joined the Warwick club a few days ago. Managed to pick up a 16 year old Corvette $$ for a good price. Nice collection you've built up since your old FB posts with the Ibanez.
I got the Rockbass Corvette (be it that it has maple neck instead of Ovangkol and Alder body instead). Great bass, love the neck on it. Planning to put the EMG pickups and the BQC preamp on it. The previous owner even switched the nut to a brass JAN2 which is neat lil detail. Really great basses, had a chance to try few Streamers (Stage 1 and 2). My next goal is to get the Thumb, but oh well, got a long way to go!
I absolutely love watching people geek out without inhibitions about stuff they are really into. So thanks. Also that Corvette has an absolutely monster sound to it, I had no idea. I have a Thumb and now I want one of these! Wondering if you tried out the $$ version of this bass and could say how the two pickup configurations compare.
Same here, mines a super cheap second hand effort. Precious owner had dinked it with a stupid studded belt but only cost around £120 on eBay 11yrs ago. I drove around 30miles to pick it up and I've gigged it many times. I just added dozens of stickers to cover the surface damage. Honestly it's got attitude, growl & a serious pair of brutal bollocks on it. The neck feels like a broom handle but weighs so little in comparison to how much "punch" it delivers. If I was far more affluent, I would have no hesitation in adding at least two more "W"s & yes they would both be German made. People seem to dislike the shape, but they're cretins and philistines with no idea of taste/style
The reason why that thing kicks out so much volume it’s your bridge believe it or not that makes the biggest difference in town so the higher the mass the bridge is the more volume and punch she will get. Passive custom shop fenders can achieve this because look how thin the bridge is at the back, but that bass has a hefty bridge on it. I owned a Warwick streamer standard back in 2005 and they have come a long way. I like Warwick a lot. It’s extremely comfortable to play on stage and you can do a lot of jumping around and crazy stuff with them.
That sounds really good... but seeing the list of players of Warwick basses I'd expect nothing less! And it does indeed have real zing with the tone up like an active, but gives that rich warm passive tone with it down. I guess the pickups are wound just so and the tone circuit can then just select the required frequency range, very cool. I'm glad you found it (or it found you? 😉) and look forward to what you produce with it. The heavier project sounds interesting, I suspect maybe a bit Tool-esque (the final piece was certainly in that vein)?
I love the Warwick bass sound, beautiful sound. Unfortunately i don’t feel comfortable because of the neck profile. But a friend of mine told me to check the Streamer series as it has a slightly wider neck. I’m happy for you Cici, your bass looks gorgeous.Wishing you all the best 👍
I've had 8 or 9 Warwick basses over the years, and they were all great. Weirdly I've only got an Alien 5 string now, finding that I prefer my Fender Jazz Deluxe 5 and ancient Ibanez SR405....but that Corvette sounds and looks great!
I have the exact same bass. Same colour. Passive. Made in Germany purchased in1995. I thought I wanted an active bass but hearing it DIed in studio (through a Focusrite ISA ONE) it IS incredible. It is an amazingly versatile bass. OH and I don't know if you feel this way but the neck wood feels "RIGHT" in my hands. I said I wish all my basses necks/finger boards were made of the same woods. One more thing: this may not be actually true but I was told at purchase that the fret metal is made of the metal mixture that is used for large bells. Thanks for posting- I'm about to pick it up NOW!
I recently stumbled upon a Korean 5 string Corvette (not a Rockbass) at an unbelievable price. I've never been a fan of 5 strings but the bass is so good that I'm gonna persist. I just have to get used to the narrower string spacing and that damn extra string!
I just love seeing peope enjoying warwicks, I don't understand how I see a lot of second hand ones, these instruments are the best! To complete the black and red look I would advise you to replace the chrome hardware by a black one, get graphtech ratio tuners if you can aswell I love the ratio tuners!
Wonderful video! Such creative playing. I was wondering how you were going to end that loop on the last song - brilliant. Fellow Warwick + Ashdown player here 👋 Great sounding & looking bass (& girl 😊)
Sounds great! Well built too. I personally don't like the body shape but that's subjective I know. Like the colour and the natural wood grain look a lot. They are expensive though! Three very different pieces. I like the last one best but the Somme (WW1 battle?) was very moody and deep. Great video - thanks.
It's really refreshing to hear a bass review where the tones are not conventional. I love what you are playing here it feels like there is some meaning behind what you are playing instead of your run of the mill generic riffs. If I may ask what are you using for that cello effect? I have never heard anything like that before. Well done and beautiful playing! Please keep the good stuff coming the world needs more artists pushing the boundaries.
Wow, just wow, Queenie, you are more talented beyond your years. This composition is nothing short of sublime. Haunting, thought provoking , inspirational. The deep base notes shake your (my) bones to the core, they get inside of you and I feel it. This Warwick Corvette Team build is simply outstanding, not only does this look great, it sounds fantastic. (Want one, need one!) This could jus be the king of bases, or should that be Queen of…? With the flood it’s not been a great year for you. But you’ve come out stronger, more resilient and you are going places, keep up the brilliant work - Mitch
Thank you so much Mitch, I can’t tell you what it means to hear that :) I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It really is a fantastic bass 😊 Still lots to be grateful for this year, and I’m sure it happened for a good reason! Although it is extremely stressful and not ideal whatsoever 😂
I understand why you like the Warwick. I play my yellow Rockbass Streamer while waiting for my JDG fretless to be completed. Very SciFi-ish tune, by the way. I would put an unverbed chopped heartbeat-like deep moog bass and some freakishly reverbed drums and call the result "Point of No Return". ...but what do I know? Thanks, Cici.
Whoop Whoop, your back where you belong, hope the rest of the house is completed for you soon!!! Beautiful sounding Bass Cici, have you given Him or Her a name???
At first, I thought yours had the bubinga body, as all older Corvette Standards have. I adore bubinga, both its look and its tone, but it weighs a ton! That's why I went with the Corvette Proline, which has a solid flamed maple body.
This makes me know that I need a loop pedal, 😩 thanks Cici lol the intro jam was great! Maybe one day the bass elder gods will let us do a sik song together 🤘 the 2nd song was bad A$$! Had a Isis vibe to it
Wow, such an amazing tone - thanks for posting this Cici! I have a slightly tangential question - I am a cellist coming new to the bass and the ones I've tried, I have struggled with frets a bit. But I've seen a Chinese Warwick Rockbass Corvette $$ 4-string fretless for sale and wondered if you have any thoughts about whether it would be suitable for a beginner?
Thats a sweet bass Cici, love the tones! I'm not sure if I ever heard you say, but what strings do you use on the Warwick? And what do you think about the neck profile? I love that Tool tone you get!!!
The clarity is just amazingly good, the great thing about it to me is that’s not active, nothing to be concerned about with playing it live. As you say it’s heavy but if it balances well it’s less of a problem. As usual I really enjoyed your playing, it’s giving me lots of ideas to think about! 🌹
that thing about being concerned playing live is just bonkers. if you've ever owned an active bass you can hear when the battery is dying it doesn't just cut out mid song for fs , and not to mention I got an 18 V circuit with emg's a humbucker in the bridge and a jazz in the neck and those duracells have been going strong for YEARS. yes I play a lot unplugged but still, 3 times a week band practice plus live gigs and yeah...had to change batteries on my yamaha rbx once, it's a single 9v battery. And if you're super paranoid , put a new battery in before the gig or mod the bass to be passive/active.
@@18hot30 I appreciate what you’re saying but at times all of us can be forgetful, I do have an Active /Passive bass so it doesn’t bother me too much, I just have to adjust the volume.
