“Couldn’t decide if I loved it or hated it, but I keep thinking about it” is exactly how I feel about Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh (writer of My Year of Rest and Relaxation). Such a disturbing and unsatisfying book, but a fascinating look into a disturbed psyche. I kept expecting it to be more explicitly queer, though haha
The way our reading tastes align so much has convinced me to pick up a few of these I had on my radar but hadn't necessarily considered yet ... loved this video!!
I read Babel earlier this year and LOVED IT so much, upset it took me so long to get to it but I think I read it at the right time for me to handle it (not good at bigger books)
Since our fantasy taste seems to match, I think you might enjoy The Surviving Sky by Kritika H. Rao. Indian inspired Sci-Fantasy that is very character focused. It's a debut I really loved and the sequel is coming out this summer!
“Mexican Gothic” is the answer I give when someone asks me for my favorite book and we don’t have time to talk about how that’s such an impossible question 😂
I also recently had a huge genre switch up and have found my love of literary fiction. I'm not sure why I've never read it before but it's becoming a huge favorite of mine. Also thank you for the Palestinian author recommendations. I've been trying to make a point of reading more books by Palestinian authors and I'm going to make sure to add to my list now! I'm currently reading Salt Houses by Hala Alyan and really enjoying it.
I just finished Blue Skinned Gods based on your recommendation. I loved it. Thank you for the recommendation. I probably wouldn't have picked it up if I hadn't seen your review.
Found you saying you didn’t know if you loved or hated Conversations with Friends so funny, cause that’s the only book I have finished and given one star. God I despise that book 😅
I am so happy I found you years ago and you are now again uploading more! I feel like we have very similar reading tastes. Many of the books you mentioned I already read and loved oooor are on my tbr already and are now bumbed up! Can't wait to tackle my new prioritized tbr 😅
