This video should have been done years ago. But here we go. Twenty-five of my favorite Canadian bands plus some albums I love. Not necessarily in a ranking order but organized with my favourites at the top of the list.
Happy Canada Day Peter. I love some good Cancon. Glad to see Blue Rodeo made your list. Well said about them by the way. Watch for my Canada Day video tomorrow.
This was awesome, Peter! Thanks for the shoutout too. I appreciate how vast and diverse your tastes are and it was great to hear the likes of Voivod and the Tea Party. Was surprised to see no Max Webster or Moxy.. but that's okay! Great video my friend!
@@beerandvinyl Thanks so much for watching, Alex, and happy July 4th! I have three Moxy albums and two Max Webster. They were part of the reason for making the cutoff at four or five albums. Otherwise my list would have been 50. No, 60! 75?
happy Canada Day Peter!!! yet again you surprise me with your collection and knowledge 🙂 I saw Triumph on the same bill as Motorhead and Ozzy back in 1981. Would have loved to have seen Rush - they played near me in Bristol a couple of times but I could never go. BTW - love Mr Moose there on teh shelf 🙂
Thank you, Nick! Mr. Moose was always a sign that a video was going to be about Canadian artists. Recently, he's been up on the shelf out of view. Motorhead, Ozzy, and Triumph. That's quite a combo. Lucky you to have seen them!
@@musicisajourney i certainly was! It was at a football ground in Stoke in the north of England (Port Vale FC). It was supposed to be headlined by Sabbath, but they pulled out so Motörhead topped the bill with Ozzy second. As well as Triumph on the bill there was a band called Vardis as well as Riot (really good band as you know) and Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. I might still have the programme, or I gave it to a friend in work years ago. I'll have to go up the oft to see if I can find it 🙂
@@duringthemeanwhilst Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush did not make my list, but I have the first five albums. That really sounds like such a great line up!
Happy Canada Day from Maryland. Same #1 & #2 here, but on my all-time list , not just Canadian. I'll keep you posted when the Sacrifice Volume 6 is set to be released.
Happy Canada Day Peter 🍁🇨🇦🍁 Love Sum 41 Btw, my grandfather spent time in Canada when he migrated to the US. If I remember the story he would work in Montana (Helena) for part of the year and across the border somewhere in Saskatchewan the other… Mining, Timber, Oil… I don’t remember so much, he went back to Norway right after WW1 after 10 ish years, and since he became a zealot and my dad couldn’t stand religion they didn’t share a lot of… stories. Weird being the grandchild of one of the fairly rare returnees. Anyhow, I drone on. Cheers from Morten 🍁🇨🇦🍁
Hey, Morten! Thanks for sharing your grandfather’s story. My grandfather had a cousin who left Denmark for America. After some years, the family back home lost touch with him. But about 20 years ago, I was contacted by a young woman in Brazil with the same last name as me. Her great grandfather came from the same town as my grandfather, and he had spent time in America before moving to Brazil and getting married. We are not certain but we like to think we are related.
@@musicisajourney Wow! Talk about change of adress. If his mom was jewish I can hear the words «what, you don’t send your mother as much as a postcard?!?» Brazil. That’s quite the change of climate and culture for a dane 😳 Another thing I found out about my grandfather, on my own, after he came back to Norway (no idea when exactly or why), he married, but she died less than 9 months later of consumption. Less than a year after he married my grandmother, she lived almost next door to where he lived with his mother. He either never knew or found out who his father was, my great grandmother was not a married woman when he was born in 1889. Apparently this made him furious and he left for America. Guess he needed 10+ years to calm down, join Jehovas Whitnesses and then move back to Norway?
@@mortenaastad796 Join Jehovah’s Witnesses! Ha ha! That’s a helluva calm down drug to take. Those old folks used to get shocked by things we take as normal these days. Now people just get offended and outraged by opinions.
@@musicisajourney Or nice people getting free John Lennon box sets (Mean Mr Mayo was a bit defensive in a video today), mayonnaise on their hamburgers or pickles (that last one was me… I’ll have a hissy fit if those are inserted into anything… despite growing up in part in Denmark where they are EVERYWHERE! Hot dogs… open face sandwhiches… Ok, I’ll stop now).
Thanks for this! Great mix of old and new, including a couple that are new to me. Happy Canada Day My Canada Day contributions--- Elevator to Hell: Eerie Constellation Fuudge: Fruite-Dieu Demon's Claws: Satan's Little Pet Pig Petunia: Petunia & The Vipers ST and of course - NoMeansNo: Why do they call me Mr. Happy?
Oh, no! You’ve named some bands I don’t know and one I do know but never listened to. Now I’m going to have to check out their music, too! And if I like it, I will try to buy it. Because Canadian bands always take precedence with me. Thanks, Beau!
