So Ed at ‪@onmyturntable7036‬ created a thread in an effort to draw some attention to his channel and also to get to know more people in the VC. His video • VC Thread: Female Arti... he asks us to introduce or talk about 5-10 female artists, and at least one of them, we must have seen live.
So, here's my contribution!

A friend once lent me a Shonen Knife CD. But, I can't really remember what it sounds like now. I saw Jann Arden in concert once when no one knew who she was. I saw Spirit of the West once. Great band!

Shonen Knife’s early stuff is very childlike. The music is simple and the lyrics - mostly in Japanese - are like weird songs for kids. But from around 1992 they advanced somewhat, i’d say. Still quirky song topics, but better musically. I really should check out another Jann Arden album.

Peter, great video! The bios and detail (and side comments!) about each artist is great to listen to and learn about. Shonen Knife! I have a few of their early 90 CD's (Let's Knife; Birds and the B Sides) and gave those a play after seeing this - had been a long time. Fun, poppy, catchy stuff. I will have to pick up the one you talked about here. Rest of the artists are new to me, and it's all about being turned on to new stuff! Added your video to my channel playlist, and appreciate you taking the time to put this video together. Have subscribed and will check out some of the videos in your library as well. Thanks again! Ed 😎🎶🎤🎸

Hey, another Shonen Knife fan! Yes, I had all their stuff up to the first album without Michie. I later sold a couple of CDs because I thought I'll probably not go back to that early stuff. But I was reminded just how unique the band was in the early days and how much I enjoyed their final albums of the nineties. So, yes, Shonen Knife bio video coming up. I watched about ten videos for this thread and I think I had none of the artists in my collection, but I made a list of a few and have already started checking some out. Yes, it is about getting introduced to new stuff as much as it is introducing stuff to others. We are all each other's students and teachers. Thanks, Ed!

Hi Peter, excellent video. Spirit of the West I only heard about recently and instantly liked them when sampling them on RU-vid. The other artists you mentioned I am not familiar with but will check out. I know I have heard of Shonen knife. Seems strange I never heard of Jane Arden, thanks for including her.

Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad to know you liked Spirit of the West. Shonen Knife might be an acquired taste. Jann Arden is cool. I hope you’ll like her. I will probably finally grab a second album this year. But there’s so much tugging at my credit card!

Enjoyed this video Peter. Those photo rights and restrictions baffled me. Nice to get a letter back from the artist 😊

Japanese play it safe. Why risk having Shania's management demand the photo be removed? I can't see that happening but just... in... case!

interesting and enjoyable as always Peter the second band ever I saw live was Girlschool (quite a big band here in the NWOBHM era) when they were supporting Uriah Heep on their 1980 tour. other female artists I really enjoy (other than the obvious like Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, etc.) are Anna Calvi, Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls), Wet Leg - and the Spice Gir… only joking - I meant PJ Harvey 🙂 I'll check out ed's channel tonight

I just watched Ed's latest video and he mentioned PJ Harvey. I have not yet gotten hold of a Girlschool album. There was one I wanted that was available for a while, but then it became unavailable and just an expensive import. They were here in Japan a few years ago. I still have the flyer. I have one album by Rock Goddess which I think is very good.

@@musicisajourney I've only got a 45 of theirs. They did record a collab with Motörhead if I recall. They called themselves headgirl (thankfully!!)
