Can we just appreciate what a great interviewer Annie Mac is? She actually listens to her guests. Alex Turner isn’t a guy who talks a lot, but she managed to make him talk by just giving him enough space. She did the same thing with Florence Welch (Florence+The Machine) and that was also an amazing interview.
Yes. I'm glad that i get to actually hear more about him and his talents. The interviewer is that person that always listens and that we could talk to for hours.
makes me sad he’s getting so much hate atm, especially in the comments. the album was a fantastic work of art, and lyrically especially alex is an absolute genius. clearly he’s off whatever drugs he was taking not that long ago and that’s fantastic, and his lack of eye contact is due to terrible anxiety. living in isolation can heighten anxiety even when living with others, and that’s exactly what he did for this record. i think it’s good that he’s finally doing what he wants to do and as someone stated on here before, the secret to longevity is to be innovative. alex is certainly innovative. also no doubt he’s sounding more sheffield cause he’s been around the other monkeys and that, and he’s been in sheffield more frequently too. idk i think he needs to catch a break from all the criticism, but i guess even the beatles got a fair amount of hate after sergeant pepper and they were gods. tldr; people need to bloody leave alex alone.
The only thing I disagree with is the drug part. I'm 100% sure he's never even been on drugs and the reason he acted a bit different than his usual self is that he embodied a persona to make him look more confident to hide the fact that he's an incredibly shy and reserved person. If you watch his earlier interview, you'd notice he's always been like this and he always took time to answer the questions because of his social anxiety and his fear of being judged or not answer properly to a question, so that's why he talks slow and stutter a lot because of his lack of confience. People mistook his behaviour as him being intoxicated, but that's just silly tbh. He himself admitted that most of the time people thought he was on something, but that's just how he is and you could tell he's pissed at people saying he's high or drunk all the damn time. Anyway, Alex seems like the type of guy who smokes and drinks from time to time, but I highly doubt he was ever into the hard stuff. He looks like he's enjoying what he does too much to ruin himself like that. So, the stupid rumours of him being on drugs needs to stop, it's incredibly disrespectful at this point.
He realized he had a big ego when he became even more famous because of AM, and that why wrote The Bourne Identity, and that is why he is more laid back now
It's meant for sex and red wine. Piss throwing indie fans need to stop being surprised millionaires living in LA aren't writing songs and singing about drunken nights out in Sheffield anymore. This album is a work of art. The entire album, every song, every sound and every feeling it makes me feel is just incredible. I pre-ordered the vinyl as soon as it was announced and haven't stopped playing it loudly since it arrived. Amazing album.
R. " It doesn't sound like an AM record" could anyone say anything more ignorant? Have we ever even gotten a solo alex record? How would anyone even know lmao
Tess Sharples but it was for a movie and not a personal Alex record. It was made with the movie in mind so technically, we still don’t know what an Alex record made for Alex will sound like
Alex talks with a regional accent. Don't worry he can be hard to understand if you aren't from the North of England. He also has a large vocabulary, he uses words I have to think about and I am English! He is a writer, words are his trade. Your comment above is perfect English so don't worry too much.
sou brasileira tbm! but I've lived in yorkshire almost my whole life (where alex is from) and I've still had to play the interview twice to understand ahaha
Really? I think he looks thin, pale and tired. If by "healthy" you mean more alert and finding the words to answer the questions quicker - definitely this a lot better than in past interviews.
888ThomtheArtist888 true I meant healthy for him and yes definitely more about how he is engaged in the interview and he can actually answer her questions
This new album is just the aspirin after the incredible party that was AM. Hopefully you feel a bit more creatively free to go on and make more in the future as a band now.
Tahsin Sabah he didnt spend much time with other monkeys. He wrote the whole album and made the demos in LA in his home with his gf. He even said the last couple of years hasbeen the longest that they have been away trom each other. I guess he just got tired of keeping that accent. I bet he must have heard those criticism too.
Why are there so many back handed compliments like damn. Alex did an amazing job! So did the interviewer. Alex is a unique and a beautiful person. Everyone’s got there own quirks and little mannerisms that they do! Anyways, both of you do an amazing job!! Such a wonderful interview! :))
i can not stand the hate towards this album, how can people criticise the band for transforming their music in a way that feels right to them? Not to mention Alex’s genius on this record, both lyrically and instrumentally. But the lyrics are the most beautiful part of all and the whole album is a real artwork.
He seems more comfortable talking, which is good. Not trying to be too verbose, which usually made him get lost in his words. Didn't like the album but at least he's doing better
Did you change your mind? 'Cause lots of fans did. Listening in my car mostly. Thinking about the videos which show the world they created on the moon.
He always had his accent. He's just pretanding or something, I don't know why accually, but I'm glad that his showing more of his accent while talking like some years before.
Man, Annie Mac is so beautiful. Even just like the sound of her voice and the integrity she has just sitting there. Such a class act. Love Alex too, but yeah.
Would it be right in assuming that if this is him off the drugs, it's him little old Alex we've not seen much of recently? He's shy anyway by what people say and if he's on his own, sober, doing media interviews again after at least five years for one of the biggest radio stations - I'm not surprised he seems like he's stumbling over a few words here and there.
Really interesting to hear that he worked in isolation and brought Jamie in first to listen and record. I guess that makes sense as he's lead guitarist but still cool to hear they work so close. I'm sure they all do though.
I can't help it. Alex with his skinny legs crossed and those socks reminds me of my wonderful Grandaddy. Wait... that suit too. I miss the 50s greaser guy already.
Its called gaze avoidance, its where its like youre finding it difficult to stare into an imaginary sun thats not there. Its an Asperger symptom I have long suspected him having. Craig Nicholls and Paddy Considine, both people that were part of Alex's life at a point and he's never put two and two together.
Why is that Alex seems more shy and timid compared to when he was with miles and the shadow puppets doing interviews. Idk idc I’m just happy and content with the album and this interview thank you BBC 💕😭
This is the only interview of his in which I’ve seen him not think about what he’s going to say for 10 minutes before speaking. Glad to see he’s coming out of his shell
Max Macdonald I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for greaser Alex Turner, but he's always bso intriguing. Difficult to ignore how awesome his new look is though :)
Gotta Shovel I Can Dig It it did sound more tlsp-ish.. but just because it isnt AM part 2 like yal wanted doesnt mean its not good. people are noticing alex seems more like himself in recent interviews.. in the AM phase it seemed like he was putting on a facade. the album isnt mainstream and it isnt for you indie fake fans either lmao
This is one year late, but I found it that if people learn/learn to use a word in a different accent that's the one that sticks? I go to international school, and there are certain words I say in a more english accent coz of my teachers. It makes me sound weird, like I'm trying to forcefully do an accent when I'm not.
Annie is awesome! Also I admit I wasn’t huge on TBHAC when it first came out, and while it’s not a huge jammer like AM or previous albums, I respect it for its artistic integrity and honesty. The lyrics are interesting and I’m going to give it another listen. Even if it’s not a popular album, I think what counts is that Arctic Monkeys/Alex are never trying to do what’s “popular” but what’s true to them. They could’ve made something like AM again but instead went for something that seems more spiritually meaningful. Good for them. I can’t wait till the 2022 album!
