I have watched exactly 1.25 of your videos (I'm partially through the 2nd one), and already I've learned enough to earn your stuff major kudos! Thank you!
Super handy to benefit from someone’s in depth knowledge like this. I love how picky these points are, but it gives me the choice to adopt them or ignore them. Whilst watching I’m learning my way around my new Mac at the same time. Brilliant
Very good video! I will certainly watch all of your other videos. I am sure, they are as good as this one is. Thx very much & keep going on producing videos....👍
Super awesome tips...Couldn't find anything like this before. A small request the notes to the left of the screen were kind of hard for me to read, if the resolution could be better it would be great! Thanks again :)
Thank you Ram! The video is uploaded in 4K high rez so I know the detail is there... if you click the little gear in the bottom right of your youtube window you should see the option for higher resolution versions. :) - Lucas
You like being secure, good! But no encrypted HD? Good thing too. My Mac Studio arrives today. Handy checklist. I’m thinking of doing a clean Install. Things I do: Add Default Folder, Keyboard Maestro, TextExpander, ScriptDebugger, Little Snitch, Alfred, Hazel, and a few more.
I'm too nervous about encryption changing my data ... I want simple files on hard drive that I can do stuff with if I need to. I've had too many cases of clients who turned on encryption of some sort then had hard drive problems and couldn't get their files back.
I'm even more OCD about my desktop - it has to be blank! I have a Hazel routine that moves anything off my desktop into a folder called 'Desktop Tidy' at the end of every day. I have another Hazel routine that checks the Desktop Tidy folder and moves anything over 2 weeks old into the trash on the basis that if it's something I want, I'll deal with it before the 2 weeks is up 😄
Super slow reply, I am sorry! Whether you migrate all with the migration tool or not - for me - depends on the health of your old Mac. Does it have any issues? Is it slow or cranky? If so then I would do a manual setup of the new one.
These are great ideas for users transitioning from Windows....unfortunately, when I restarted the mac, all changes were reverted to the defaults. How can I lock-in these changes?
just moving to Mac. one thing that is driving me nuts, is that whenever I go to install an applicaiton it's asking me to enter my password. since I'm an admin on the machine, I want it to just install without requesting a password. looked all around system preferences and can't seem to find where to turn that off. I looked at the security and privacy tab, no luck.
I don't think that's an option and even if it was I wouldn't recommend it... this authentication is required at the file system level, and is because of the unix/linux architecture. This password requirement is exactly the reason Macs are not susceptible to malware and viruses without admin/root login. So it's a feature... yep it's annoying but it keeps the Mac safe.
