I've had several Magic Bags from Too Good To Go and most have been really good, this one from Aldi is my worst one yet.... Facebook / bitofmunch Instagram / bitofmunch7
It's really interesting how different people's dietary preferences are! For me this would've been a great bag! 😄 I'd go through a bag of sugar snaps peas a day no problem. Limes I'd slice and freeze.
Too late now but you could have stir fried the Pak Choi and sugar snap peas adding including soy sauce and lime juice and ginger. That could have been served along side the thai curry and just some rice. The limes are an absolute blessing served simply with sparkling lemon or with a Vodka.
I think maybe they put the disgruntled employee on this job today. You can squeeze the lime juice into ice cube trays; then pop them out into a freezer bag. You can blanch the peas and then freeze them, too. You can stir fry the bok choy; wash it first to remove any hidden sand. Happy Valentine's day!
Blanch the sugar snaps and freeze, but use a pack for stir fry with the pac choi with the turkey. Make a lime cordial - delicious. Marinade turkey in lime and coriander and pan fry. The bag isn't too bad at all
I would be quite happy with this. I just learned about "too good to go" yesterday. There's only one place that offers it in my area. I reserved 2 bags today. I'm looking forward to picking them up! Thanks for sharing!
I guess it’s just the luck of the draw. I got anAldi one recently and I got a decent haul, with a large joint of beef that was £10.49 in normal life. It’s now frozen. My first and only bag from Morrisons, I got an absolute tonne of fruit and veg (literally only fruit and veg), it included mouldy strawberries and 5 lots of spring onions.
Thanks, my son used to love watching Kipper so I just watched an episode for old times' sake, I can't hear the similarity myself but if you want to call me Kipper The Munch that's fine by me! 😁
I don't know, I keep changing my mind about it. I know someone who works there and she said that I was extremely unlucky, they're normally a lot better.
You'll have to make that old classic recipe 'sugar snap pea and lime casserole' perhaps with a side of pak choi since they go so well ! Lol 😅 Oh dear, bit of a disappointment, if not for the turkey steaks and the veg curry pot which redeemed the bag slightly. This would put me off the too good to go bags definitely yes. Hopefully Steve you can enjoy the turkey steaks and push the mouldy grapes to the side hehe 😂
Your casserole suggestion doesn't appeal somehow! 🤣I've frozen the turkey, 3 decent size steaks so that's 3 meals for me. I'll do another Morrisons bag soon, hope it's as good as the first one.
Ok so a bit of inside info for you and everyone who uses that app.. I’ve worked in environmental services for over 13 years. Most notably in food waste. You may have heard of anaerobic digestion. It’s a process that is used to ‘recycle’ food waste to create renewable energy such as bio methane. In this case let’s talk about Aldi. They have a national waste contract with a large waste firm. Collecting/processing all of the waste generated across their stores/NDCs etc. Not interested in other waste streams, just the food waste. The food waste is a commodity, it’s worth a shed tonne of money to both Aldi, food manufacturers and the like plus the waste processors. There are many different categories to determine what a specific type of food waste would yield in terms of gas generation. For example, let’s take a packet of doughnuts.. because they are highly calorific ie high in fats, sugars etc, it’ll generate approx. 650m3 of bio methane PER TONNE. This is what it’s worth to food waste processors.. now for the interesting part.. that tonne of doughnuts would highly likely attract a rebate. In other words £ per tonne. In this case, Aldi would be looking at around £60-120 per tonne return. So if Aldi threw away 10 tonnes of doughnuts in a week, their return would be £600-1200 x 52 weeks = £31,200-62400. Not saying they only throw doughnuts so let’s take another example.. if they’re mixing their food waste it’ll generate approx. 190-260m3 of bio methane and it’ll still yield a hefty return back to them. So in your case, I suspect the reason why you were given so much veg/fruit/vegan food was because of the lack of bio methane it’ll be able to yield. You’re talking less than 50m3. Additionally lemons are highly acidic and many AD facilities do not process this stuff due to the live biology not being able to eat it. Its basically a huge stomach, imagine eating a whole lemon, you’re guaranteed to have an upset stomach. Ultimately if businesses want to help reduce food waste, they should be utilising apps like too good to go and offering a wider selection. However, what with the monetary values food waste attracts, this won’t happen anytime soon which just makes too good to go useless unless change is implemented and money isn’t the talking point above environmental benefits. Lastly, take a look at animal feed, that’s a whole different industry altogether.. basically anything that isn’t Category 3 Animal by Product, is used to make pet food or food for livestock and the value in that is astronomical. You’ve only got to look at wheat prices and you’ll be shocked. Anyway I’ve said my piece. Hope it helps and puts gives some insight. 👍
Lets keep in mind that they give you what is about to expire and need to get rid of on that day specifically. You shouldnt be surprised at what you got because there was nothing else to throw away probably. As for the grapes. I side with you, that is absolutely ridiculous. I got a bag from herons food and it came with 2 month old mayo which is just insane in my opinion.
Less waste for them and money in their pocket. To me it’s a con as this is reduced unsold waste at the end of the evening. Ideal for supermarkets to have mess waste and less costs plus a small profit
Oh, wow. I expected way better from Aldi. These limes and peas I would just never really use at all, so to have so many of them would just rub salt in the wounds lol. I’d have been sad with the vegan food, too. The turkey is great but doesn’t make up for all that disappointment 😩
Limes can be frozen. My sister quarters them then and puts them in a lock 'n' lock box in the freezer. Mind you, I think they took the mick giving you multiples of those and the peas. A bit like when I got 8 doughnuts in a Greggs TGTG bag.
I've never tried sugar snap peas raw, I will, my son's taking the limes to work, the turkey was 3 good size steaks which I've frozen so that's 3 meals 🙂
I got a suggestion for you throw the grapes, limes and sugar snap peas in the bin yes the bin! And ive just ordered a tgtg from aldi ill see what i get hopefully some sandwiches and cakes in it
Not aldi but purchased from morrisons in sidcup tonight 8 swedes yes bloody 8 of them 6 loaves of bread and 2 packets of baddddd pears. Only fit for the bin. Very poor servings
Everything you got in this Magic Bag can be frozen including the Sugar Snap Pea's. Sugar Snap Pea's can be used from frozen for a stir fry and can be also used in soups, or microwave them from frozen. The limes juice can also be used for ice-cream etc, or a cheeky Cocktail. This is not the worst bag, l have seen l got a bag of out of date bread and rotten sandwich meat from Morrisons.
Its turned me off to get one of these bags! A flipping 2 year old could have packed that bag better! Lordy lordy praying for common sense! Them limes and all them sugar snap peas ! Not good not helpful if they genuinely want to help struggling families. Thanks for you reviewing this Steve!
Avoid supermarkets! Bakeries are the best or coffee shops with what I’ve seen ppl get on yt. I’ve never been able to get my hands on any! Greg’s are always taken 😢
@@BitOfMunch What the hell! I’ve just noticed that I’ve been unsubbed from your channel!? RU-vid and it’s dirty little tricks! I subbed when you were around 550 subs!
😂😂 what Planet are you on??? Aldi too good to go bags are on line you Dont get a receipt with them. You've just bought as load of reduced stuff😂 what's up did your Rabbit Die??
I know it's only £3.30 but Aldi's are are really taking the mickey there. 5 bags of sugar snap peas 3 bags of limes and the cherry on the cake a punnet of obviously mouldy grapes. Totally ridiculous what can you make with those ingredients. I'm not being horrible but it did make me laugh out loud.
you said that they were all out of date, the food shops like fish and chips are straight from the cooker.. Greggs, dicksons, cooplands all that days items not out of date slice the limes and freeze them for drinks or to put in water drinks seems to be aiming towards a curry I am not as putting it down so much take the grapes back or take a photo and send it to To good as a complaint there should not be rotten food in your bags, My sister has and her's was very good
My son took the limes to work so people could help themselves. I did a very honest review of this bag on Too Good To Go, haven't heard back from them, didn't expect to to be honest. A friend of mine works for Aldi and said I was very unlucky, she said they're usually much better, I might try another one, we'll see.
