Been working with Chameleons for years now but just over the last year my collection has exploded! Went from 2 chams to 8! Take a look! I also have 2 questions 1 on feeders and one on outdoor plants that I would love some feedback on so feel free to leave comments I will read them! I don't know if people care about these videos but when I was just dreaming about chams and had only 1 or none and was dreaming of getting Quadricornis's or a Tamatave panther I loooved getting inspired by other peoples videos, which there are still not a ton of just for chameleons on RU-vid. So I wanted to contribute a bit to the lack there of. If you like this video at all, please give me a like so I know other like seeing this and I have some support for making more. Thanks for watching!

Grain mites! I've dealt with them on several occasions in the past. Absolute huge pains in the butt. Throw out all the substrate, clean off the worms, scrub out the containers, and start fresh. However, keep in mind that they are notoriously difficult to eradicate, and you never truly will. At best, you can keep them to manageable levels. Grain mites thrive in warmth and humidity. Keep your worms in open lid tubs in a warm dry place away from humid enclosures. Remove uneaten food (potatoes, carrots) after a few days, and throw out any damp substrate (i.e. oats). When cleaning out the worm tubs/containers, use very hot water, and wash/scrub them several times. Once you've cleaned and refilled your worm tubs, move them to a different location for now. This will prevent any mites that were hanging around the old location from blooming again. Keep all worm food items (oats, grains, etc.) in a cool, dry place until you need them. Grain mites require certain temperatures to reproduce, so keeping the food cool will prevent this. They don't appear to be problematic for reptiles. I've had my water dragon's tank completely infested as well, and she was just fine. But being that her conditions were ideal for their reproduction, I had to make sure to eradicate them from her enclosure as well. Oh, and something to note - if you feed worms with grain mites to your reptiles and you happen to get a fecal test done, the mites WILL show up on the exam. Confused the heck out of my one vet, who prescribed a general dewormer to get rid of the "unidentifiable parasite" (this was before I figured out the first time that I was dealing with these in the first place). Again, didn't harm my reptile in any way, this was just a routine fecal, but it did come as a surprise. Good luck!

freezing the oats in the freezer for 3+ days straight had proven to be the best remedy for the mites so far btw..

I hate those mites. They got so bad in my superworm farm that they spread out of the enclosure and onto the table. It was like having a layer of living sand. Still gives me the creeps when I think about it

Microwave oats for 20 seconds before placing in container. This kills off the mites.

The tiny insects are probably mites and their the worst. Mites in general are. ugh. I know mites can be a major problem for springtail and isopod cultures/colonies, but I dont know for sure about meal/silk worms, I would assume yes tho. I think they eat eggs.

How do you only have 77 subs?! Haha with a video like this I'd think you would have thousands!!! Just wanted to say I loved this video, and I have two questions: 1. Did you figure out the name of that cool looking woody plant in the outdoor cage? 2. What region do you live in (or state), I was just wondering because the weather there seems awesome with the cool temps and rain. Where I live it's like 115 decrees out now XD

Do only certain species of chameleons need screen cages or should they all have screen cages?? I heard that it helps to make sure they don't get respiratory infections, but I'm not sure
@solaxis9858

Those are grain mites or other mites. They are a pest but do not hurt your animals but you can develop an allergic reaction to them. Best way to solve it is to just throw the culture away, but it isnt a huge deal in the first place.

Love the chameleon room. Which species can you keep in glass terrariums? I just got my first screen cage for a chameleon, but maybe in the future I can put one in an exo terra too?

Wtf... Do you try to have the most chameleon that? Should already be able to take care of a chameleon ... The size of the flexarium at 8:16 (if we can call it like that) is ridiculously small ..

They are mites. When you get the grain your using wet the eggs that are in it hatch. I've had them with my super worms, they don't harm the chameleon but breed fast and get everywhere

the black dots in your super worm farm is actully mold ,and i would imeadiatly get another container to put them in or the mold will spread causing dead super worms and super worm beetels

it isn't mold, they are actual little tiny bugs I have had them before, I did end up cleaning the container because they were just everywhere. But yea don't worry it's not mold but you might not want to keep them in there. (Copy Past)
