What are your thoughts on the new 2019 Audi A1? Better than the previous generation? I must say, for me, it was really cool to experience as I owned a 2014 A1 for around 2 years before my Golf R! A huge thanks goes to Southampton Audi for lending me the car, check them out in the link in the description!
The back pillar is actually a C pillar, they go in order from front to back "A" "B" and "C" pillars, with the added "D" pillar in the Estate models. Keep up the great work! You got yourself a new subscriber! I also own a Mk 7.5 Golf R and actually fitted the Res delete thanks to your video, you should look forward to a cold air intake, I got mine from ECS Tuning with the carbon fiber cover, look it up, it really makes a huge difference when it comes down to turbo noises and a more driver focused experience. Cheers mate!
Hey David, yeah I noticed that whilst editing! Silly me... :) Thanks so much for subscribing, I really appreciate it!! That's epic, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
I wasn't expecting allowances to be made for an S-line Audi ! However, it should not come as a surprise that this second generation A1 is way better than the previous one. It is a completely new car: new engines, new gearboxes, new suspension... New platform, generally ! Lovely car, undoubtedly ! It remains to be seen whether it high price tag will attract enough buyers !
Mines arriving this week. Opted for the Sport level spec to allow for the 1.5ltr 35 TFSI engine size within my budget. Wasn’t really a fan of all the extra pointy fake vents on the S-Line either. Read a lot of mixed reviews but I don’t see the issue. I test drove a Fabia, Ibiza and Polo and kept coming back to the A1. Good review, this is the first time I’ve watched one of your vids! Will be watching more 👍🏻
Yeah I like this new shape. Personally not a massive fan of the wheels on this car but may look better in black. But yeah looks nice but stick with the R!
I have a touch screen on my beamer and only used once, then found my self trying to remove my finger prints 😀 I find it easier to use the toggle dial than try and stretch across the car . Interesting to hear what others think of these touch screens
Have to agree with you, touchscreen in my golf which is too impractical to use when driving. Got in an Audi and used the dial and found it a lot easier while driving
Marcus Hezel you are clueless aren’t you lol so what about a yamaha r6 ? 600cc 4cylinder dosent seem impossible to me. btw my friends dad has an audi a3 1.0t 4cylinder.
Personally I think there is a bit too much going on. It's looks good and aggressive but a bit ott. Hats off to Audi though, they certainly know how to make an interior!
So this is basically VW Polo with Audi branding and with Audi pricing. My thoughts were like "Okey at least it will have more premium interior, but no. I see hard plastic all the way around".
That's a beautiful car. I've appointment tomorrow to test drive the Competition model of this car.. It's certainly not cheapest, but just like with say Omega watches, I wouldn't expect it to be.
Great review!! I hear what you mean about the virtual cockpit...it’s great! I’ve got the same car as yours-Golf R 7.5, took delivery in July and am loving it!!! One of my fav car!! Thinking of forthcoming A35 AMG, but might go for something more thunderous instead! Russell
Also the upgraded virtual Cockpit with the larger touchscreen is over £1600 and the S-line model is one off the top of the range only beaten in price by the launch edition its a very very expensive car
It's quite a nice improvement over the last model. I'm not a fan of all the fake vents on the outside. The three vents above the grill (which I like to be honest) don't do anything and the front and rear bumpers are over-designed if you ask me. Other than that, it's quite a good, little car.
Audi really needs to release a 3 door version. The previous generation 3 door was a obvious sales success, despite the perceived lack of practicality typical 3 door cars hold. The aggressive styling would suit a 3 door variant.
It's not strange that the keys are identical. VW owns Audi, even the buttons and control knobs inside are usually the same hahaha same with the seat ibiza, it has a polo engine and transmission
Nice video. Just a quick FYI though.......car pillars are designated A, B and C from front to back. So there is no large A pillar towards the back - that's a C pillar :-)
As a longtime Audi customer and an owner of the previous generation I have to say, while I like the front-end the rear C-blade looks way too much like the Fabia and the interior, while okay rips too many cues from the VW parts bin. The real let down for me though is the use of poorer materials. It has also moved production to Spain, alongside the Seat Ibiza. To me, this doesn't feel like an Audi but then maybe new Audi buyers will still be convinced. I'd personally step-up to an A3 or Q2, both are significantly nicer inside in regards to overall build/fit and finish. I really wanted to like this car, but I'm not sold. I will also say that the old generation was a competent gymnast and could handle limit driving well, but the new model feels a little weighty and seems to turn in less sharp. The previous generation also had brake based torque vectoring, no idea if the new one does, but I didn't find it as reassuring as the previous gen.
1 litre 3 pot, 35 TFSI is the 1.5 litre. Nice but too expensive. Scratchy plastic does not disappear unfortunately, no twin tail pipes unless you get the top of the range petrol, 45 TFSI, no bonnet strut for ease of access around the R engine bay. Will keep my previous generation
Ok..I'd like to test drive as I own an Audi A1 old model for 3years and currently use it for teaching learners . It's a fantastic car specially with the biting point so assuming this new version would be same ? That is my main concern
Hi did you do an apprenticeship. Sorry for being nosy, I’m just asking because I am thinking of doing one so if you did could you tell me how it was. Thanks
Good review im looking to get one on mobility now im cabbaged with pain this will help the pain as my daughter will b second driver shes chuffed to bits so when im too poorly to drive she will either take me or nick the car lol
Surely better than previous model... and better looking. but way too expensive... and at this price not even the option for an electric handbrake and ignition. We are heading for the third decade of the 21st century Audi.
Scratchy cheap plastics in a Audi isn't acceptable the previous A1 doesn't have cheap scratchy plastics and door cards in every model are the cheap junk.... To sum up l ain't a fan of Audi's new design language too Korean like
This car was on my shortlist for lease this Q2. But while I think it is one of the nicest looking smaller cars out right now, the price just doesn't justify the interior quality, equipment and engines. I can get a very well equipped 2019 Mazda 3 for the same money as a moderately equipped A1 with a 1.0 TSI. While the Mazda has the Skyactiv X engine, more room, probably more silent and comfortable ride and an interior quality maybe even exceeding even the Audi A3. So yeah I just can't justify leasing this. I of course also love how the Mazda looks, hence the comparison.
Good review covered everything but I don’t like the A1s how they get so little power out of the engine is beyond me Ford have had 125hp for years for their 1.0 and now 140hp. Also 35mpg is dreadful for a mix of driving I get 50mpg driving a mix of scenarios in the fiesta and it’s more fun to drive than this and it’s ridiculously expensive for not much car.
it gives me a cheapy feel.. it just looks way overstated for what it actually is. If it was a RS1, fine. but 1.0L engine? come on.. I have the old one, and i most def would not buy the new version the day I go for an upgrade. It just looks like a tryhard toycar. :(
I think the new A1 could have been so much better the interior quality is very poor with cheap feeling plastics Not what you expect for a Audi. Save your money and get the seat ibiza
Here in Holland figures of Audi are way behind Mercedes and BMW....I think Audi has gone a step too far with their dashboard designs. Additionally, all Audi cars look the same and the touch screens are not practical....people don't like that.
It´s a nice car and from the design i must say i like this one better. The old one was nice too but this new one idk appeals more to me :) and it´s great you like the classic handbrake... you know what that means? Gymkhana A1-style :D
you speak like my grandfa ! and audi will be going down hill soon or later cuz those cheaper aggresive looks plus electro screen nut in it! you know you cannot repair
