Here's a video detailing my first ever experience of a Scooter Rally. It was the VFM Easter weekend rally at Whitby, England, UK. I hope you enjoy it. Apologies for the wind noise which i've tried to keep to the minimum.
Hiya mate. As a motorbikerist of nearly 50 years who has camped and toured all over the UK and Europe, I had to smile that you had the most important piece of gear, apart from your tent, that is your sleeping bag just fastend on your front rack without any protection. Just a tip, wrap it in a bin bag next time, and also practise putting your tent up in the garden, just so it doesn't take over half an hour to erect, you were seriously wasting beer/chippy time. 🤣. Just one more thing, take a look at 'dry bags' for stashing your gear on the scoot. Oh yeah, a really entertaining vlog. 👍🏍.
Thank you Keith I appreciate the tips. My mate dave told me similar, he's a rally veteran too 🤣 the sleeping bag was In its storage bag so it did have at least a little protection , although we were very lucky with the weather. Thank you for the feedback mate, that's what this channel is all about👍🏻🛵😁
Living the dream, we used to acquire tickets for the all nighter instead of arranging digs back in the day. Even slept in a skip covered with cardboard one time 😝
My idea of camping is anyplace you can’t get room service. Guess my tastes outrun my wallet. Never really owned a scooter, but always liked them. Motorcycles are more usable in a country like Australia with the distances we have. And I’ve had plenty of motorcycles. When I was young we spent some great times riding an old Vespa 150 around the orchards at my cousins place. In the ‘80’s we used to knock off work Easter Friday night and ride 900 km to Bathurst NSW for the Mt Panorama bike races, on my Ducati 900. Even saw Mike Hailwood ride there on a Yamaha TZ 700. Became 5th but it was all just a practice run for his return to IoM on the Ducati.
Just found loved your first Run I've just bought a Scomadi TL125 first Scooter in possibly 30 years did a few Runs in the 80s as a pillion had vespas and Lammys back in the day can't wait to get out and about on me Scooter
I've watched several of your videos and really enjoyed them. My children have grown up which gives me more time to indulge in my interests. I have a Vespa px125 and i meant to take it over from Dublin to visit a friend in Lichfield earlier this month ( about 150 miles ). My mechanic advised me that it wouldn't make it though as it's burning oil which means the engine seals have been compromised. I'm seriously considering buying an RA - probably a 300 and doing it next year. You've inspired me!
Hi Kevin, thank you for the positive feedback, I appreciate it. The Royal Alloys are great machines, although getting parts is a struggle at present, but i'm sure that's the case with many industries right now. Hopefully things will improve soon. Good luck and thanks for watching🛵👍
I'm an older scooterist and I have a modern twist and go Lambretta because, first of all Its reliable and doesn't break down all the time, secondly it's easier to ride without gears and a foot brake, and finally I don't have to mix 2 stroke oil and petrol 👍
was in whitby over Easter weekend, it was fab seeing all the scooters , walked across the moors one afternoon and it was brilliant seeing the lines of scooters driving across the moors in convoy .
Just got myself the Royal alloy 125 I love my little baby, I'm about halfway through your video and all ears well put together bro subscribe and I'll be watching more of you
I've just bought a Lambretta 125 V special. Not a 60's or 70's original but still built by Inocentti , the original Lambretta maker back in the day and am having a ball. Hope to get out to few rallies this year. Absolutely loved the video also. Keep them coming
Hi Mark, those new Lammies get very good reviews. At first I wasn't keen on the looks of the new ones but they are really growing on me. Don't seem to see many of the V models out and about. How do you like it ?
Hi , another great video really gives a good feel for the whole weekend experience, I'm new to scooters but made me want to attend a rally , reminded me of the aircooled vw events back in the day :-)
Nice one mucka I've never been to a rally need 2 get one sorted on my bucket list.ive got a scomadi auto with a 170 kit.i just got back from Spain I took the scoot to malaga last August ferry from plymouth to santander about 900+km over 3 days .then last week brought it back .2 b honest the scoot did me fine.great vid mate fair play to you..taff cardiff
Brings back some great memories of the rallies I used to do. I've owned and then sold (which I always regretted afterwards) a few scooters over the years. Would love to get one again. I like the look and reliability of the Royal Alloy.
Nice one Tony. The Royal Alloys come in for some stick off the traditionalists, but I love mine, and a lot of old boys have taken the plunge and love em too ❤️ thanks for watching 👍🏼😁 🛵
Typical, wait all week for your Whitby vlog to drop and it goes live the night I'm out fishing so I had to wait a day longer to watch 😂 Great vlog chap 👍
@@RoyalAlloyRider weekends are out at the minute. Thursday nights are gonna be my 'go to' for a while. Took me 3 hours to warm back up last night though!
just clicked on your video Thought it was really good everyone having fun lovely scooters and livery , Love Whitby Yes i am a Harley Dude but everyone to their own Thanks for the video
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍🏼 you must be the rare Harley rider that nods to the scooterists lol. Yes Whitby was a great weekend. Doesn't matter what you ride, we are all the same when it comes to a tribal mentality , something primal about riding in a pack, even on a hairdryer 🤣 😁🛵👍🏻
great informative video , the little motorised cycle you saw was a Raleigh runabout rm6 . I had one as my first wheels in the early 70,s still a few about .
Cleethorpes in July will be a great run for yer! Always a good craic too! Sun ,sea and Papas fish n chips ,what’s not to like? Another two hour plus ride again but only a 25 miler for me from the East Riding of Yorkshire haha
Fish and chips 😂 me and food 😂 top weekend mate glad you enjoyed it fella here’s to the next one, hopefully see you on the armandos run on the 14th 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Mate. Good video - would have liked to see your reaction when you first got to Whitby and saw all the scoots! Mine was the black Scomadi TL 200 at 11.35 - it’s got some Wedding Present (the band) graphics.
That was great. Enjoyed the ride and Whitby looked lovely (Captain Cook’s old home town), so did the little market village. Fantastic selection of scooters, but I’ve never heard of Royal Alloy. They look like a Lambretta to me with the body shape. Very cool scooters. I ride a Harley Davison Heritage Softail Classic and am working my way up to a scooter. Australia.
@@andrewsmith1390 Ah Andrew, you’re a Scholar ! Thank you, I will add that to my ‘Pub Trivia Night’ knowledge, which is poor I admit. If you have any interest in Cook, Some years back I got hold of a book on Captain James Cook. If memory serves, it was two or three volumes by an Australian..if you’re interested at all I’ll find the name of it. This thing was incredible in its detail, a definitive account of the voyage. It made you feel like you were on the voyage with him and told how he got the command, how he then had the Endeavour ‘double bottomed’ and basically every rivet in the ship. I learned why Oscar Wilde has to unpick rope in his prison cell for two years, and so much more. The reason for my interest was I’d just done a sailing trip of my own. We (three of us) sailed up the Queensland coast’s inner reef and oddly enough followed much of Cooks journey up there. I was writing a book of my own adventure and was interested in the overlap. We sailed a 15m yacht from Bundaberg QLD to Greece, via Cape York Peninsula (top end Qld) Darwin, Indian Ocean to Christmas Island, Cocos Islands, Seychelles, up the East Coast of Africa and into The Red Sea. Stopped at Aden in Yemen, then Sudan, Egypt and Greece. There was a great tale in The Cook book (sorry) about one of the strangest incidents in Naval History.. Just where e sailed down the Burnett River to turn left (North) into The Pacific, almost 200 years before, The Endeavour had been almost exactly there. One morning one of the ratings awoke to discover both his ears missing (I’ve been that pissed). A full investigation was held, and one man was suspected of doing the deed, but it couldn’t be proved. Consequently no punishment could be given, but I gather the man suspected got a good talking to. Hope you weren’t bored to death by that Andrew. But it was a great adventure. By the way, I’ve been in Cooks Cottage in Melbourne, they brought it here brick by brick from Great Ayton, North Yorkshire. Apparently it was his fathers old house. Didn’t see an old Triumph or Norton in the shed though. Cheers, Col
@@colinnuttall9579 Hi col i would love to read that book about James Cook, we are very proud of him he is our local hero in this part of North Yorkshire and his spirit of adventure lives on in people like you, your trip
Also Colin i find it fascinating that two bikers from different parts of the world are both drawn to a scooter rally I would imagine because whitby was in the title,I live ten miles from whitby and if you are ever over here you can borrow one of my bikes explore the county .also a British TV show called time team team came to Marton to find cook's birth place the location had been lost over time and they found it its worth a look I think it's still on RU-vid ,cheers and all the best to mate Andy .
Looks like a cracking weekend and great video Still not taken the plunge and bought a scooter yet but I hope to get one this year. Going to have a mooch around Scooterfest at Leek on the 22nd May. Will give you a shout if you’re about 👍
brill matey, had 2 scoots a tv 175 in 1976 and a li silver special 1966 1n 2008 went to many a rally with my wife, bed and breaky , not camping you enjoy ,
Hello mucker. what a cracking weekend you had. at least it didn't poor down during the night. i went to a charity bike meeting in Weston-super-Mare last night. But someone had put the wrong date on the website, so was disappointed that nothing went on. there was about 40 bikers that had turned up, but only me with a scooter. The bikers all liked my Milano and took photos of it.
Great post... Love your royal alloy 👍 can't get them here in Latvia, and the scooter scene here is almost nonexistent, that bad road on the way was beautiful compared to roads here 😂everytime I hear Whitby I think of one of my favourite TV programmes Heartbeat! almost certain that little village you wanted to know the name of is called Goathland which was the setting for aidensfield village in Heartbeat. Greetings from an Irishman in Latvia... Gave you a sub 👍
Thank you my friend . Latvia sounds very cool. You should import a scooter and start your own scooter scene. Build it and they will come ! Thanks for watching and subscribing. 👍🏻🛵
Good time had, back in the late sixties had a GP 200 and joined Manchester Lyons, had some great times and won a few trophies, mainly twisty sprinting . Great days. Still live in Stockport.
@@RoyalAlloyRider Hi there, unfortunately I have up scootering a long time ago, however I love watching anything to do with scoots. I rode with the Lyons way back in the late Sixties early seventies but then came a family so had to give it up. I had a Lambretta GP 200, which I then gave up for a 75cc Lambretta Vega which I used to race with. Had lots of fun with my Scooter drove it to Southend twice to a massive Scooter rally there( not a mod) won quite a few events throughout the country, the big one for me, although I don't think they do it anymore was twisty sprinting. I also went to the isle of man Scooter week twice, great times. Nice to hear from you, I guess from your you tube video's that you live around Furness vale ( not trying to pry). I still live in Cheadle Heath. Keep up with the Videos, I really enjoy them.
I’ve done 4 scooter rally’s this year love the music and the good laugh with friends and family when I’m on the road we should have a drink at a scooter rally . Do mersea island
I've recently moved to Millport - Isle of Cumbrae which is bringing back their annual scooter rally in last weekend of August 2022 let me know if anyone is going.
One of the shops on the seafront called “All Seasons” sells metal pictures of Vespas and Lambrettas also pictures from Quadrophenia “That’s why I’m a mod”
That hill to get back out is a killer, I done my head gasket on my GP125 getting outta there in 2001. And watch out for the parka … the hood will work as a parachute
Really enjoyed this vlog. You just popped up on a suggestion and glad you did. I was a mod in the late 70s till the mid 90s and had lambys and veps all custom and tuned. Loved the rallies In them days and ruffin it in fields or street sleeping. I was the drummer in a Hull mod band in the very early 80s called The Cynics. How things have changed. I do like the Royal Alloys, very lambretta... But to be honest hate the new look Vespa and lambrettas. I'm a traditional bloke. Again, great vlog and you have me remembering to the old time. Whitby... Is that true about the pirate graves? I need to look next time 👍
Tis a silky smooth race track in comparison to the roads of leek and macclesfield. As the saying goes 'we don't drive on the left of the road we drive on what's left of the road '
Haha Sambas 45 to 55 us 60 somethings are still wearing them we need to meet up at a rally you would bring the average age down nice video glad you enjoyed your first rally quite a few of us are going to the Kelso rally it would be nice to see you there
not heard of vfm think its normally bsra that does up there, never been to whitby on a rally. but going to windermere on sunday with the lancashire scooter alliance. although sounds like more than lancs is going..
I liked that a lot,..I have been a biker all my life I'm 61,my older brother was a mod and had scooters... I may now buy a scooter... Maybe a bit more comfortable, rather than head down arse up!!
Amazon, great tent, very warm and good waterproof rating. Should do me for many oire rallies 👍🏻🛵 thanks for watching www.amazon.co.uk/Coleman-2000012145-Tent-Darwin-2/dp/B00DGC1NI2/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=PHNXZ8VMKAGY&keywords=2+man+tent&qid=1652184908&sprefix=2+man+tent%2Caps%2C733&sr=8-5
Just like bike rally only people wearing drifferent clothes and riding bikes instead of scooters, and different music generally but the minset the same out with your mates having a party enjoying the craic. From Blackppol originally here so got a soft spot for lammys as Blackpool was always a Lamberetta town
Sad thing is it was all about cheap transport and adventures when you were young Now it's all about overcharging eachother and hoarding scooters In a scene that has no new blood and realistically got 5years left in it
You could be right there Rob. All I can say is I think that RA are doing a good job of drawing in new blood of all ages, and keeping the scene alive a bit. Although some would disagree !🤣Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching 👍🛵
Never go to the rallies anymore, they are boring and predictable. It's not that I'm old now and grumpy, it's just the rallies are more like a theme park of what they once we're.
Scooter rallies now full of scomadi, gts & royal alloys, covered in targets, Union Jack's & ska stickers. Riders in standard parka or bomber jacket (with badges), target helmets, not actually having a clue about scooters. Blaming dodgy wrists for buying plastic. Changed so much, majority attendees not have a clue about scooters, at a scooter rally
@@carolekavanagh2276 People like him fail to realise that if you take away all the scooters he’s talking about, there would be no scooter scene. You can’t live in the past.
