My First Leather Project Ever!

The very first leather project I ever made. A brown leather cuff with a stamped metal centerpiece that references the scripture John 14:19. The leather is over-dyed and dry…the stitching is absolutely horrible…the centerpiece is crooked…the double snap closure is total overkill…and none of the edges are finished…but despite all that…I still think it is cool, even now 😎.

I’m not gonna lie that’s pretty good for a first time with leather. I know when I started I wasn’t close to that kind of stitch, I free hand stitch faux leather but that’s still a good piece of work.

wow that is a lot better then my first project, mine was a wallet that had horrible stitching very crooked cuts and I never even used a pattern I just went for it lol

every time i see people using expensive tools or critique their work too hard i remind them that back in the day they didn't have these tools to make their craft.

Bro my leather work looks like something out of the 4th century rough edges cut with a box cutter or scissors and uneven messed up stitching with an awl and a needle.

My first stitch was on a pocket knife belt pouch, and I doubled the saddle stitch because I've suffered too many store bought leather items that had the stitching for the belt loops come undone. As a result, it looks horrendous.

Not sure what you mean by over dyed. Looks like an ok shade to me. Definitely have better stitching than I do, lol. I started using a grooving tool to make my stitch lines since I dont have the proper compass looking tool yet. It helps...

The issue with your stitches is the thread size you used. For something of this size you will want a thinner thread. Somewhere between 5-8mm either bonded nylon or waxed polyester.
