POOOOOOOOOOCH! Please please please never stop making videos! You represent something that is slowly getting lost in the world of photography...which is creating art and community!👏
Never owned or used a Leica film camera the closest in feel I have so far is a zorki 4 and a canon L3. I do have a Leica Q2 which constantly amazes me it a wonderful camera and lens combo I've shot some of my fave images with this camera loads of examples on my channel. I've just subbed you thanks for your thoughts
I was able to test side by side an M4-2, M4-P and black chrome M4 together. The film advance and the shutter, the overall camera operation feeling between the models was indistinguishable to me. Was seriously planning to get an M4-P but ended up getting a great deal on a minty chrome M4. The total cost for my M4 and the 28 Elmarit (V3) was equal to the cost of an M6 body alone where I live. Honestly, all the M's are great, go for what you like and whatever your budget allows and enjoy. Cheers!
I've used an M4-2 for over 40 years and just got (rescued) a box fresh M4-P from a collector. Greatest cameras I've ever owned. Now I'm retired and it's time to put hundred of rolls through them. Remember, your pictures tell the story, not the camera.
Just bought an m4-p as well and I love it. Its a beautiful camera and i dont really care about the not being made in germany or whatever. Still a beautifully made camera
I’ve got a Minolta CLE and the 40/2 and 90/4 M-Rokkor lenses, which I think is a great way to get (back) into rangefinder cameras, if you can tolerate the non-mechanical nature of it. I’ve put (holy cow!) 7 rolls through it in the just over a month since I got it. I think I’m enjoying that great little camera 😅😸
I don’t have money for a Leica, but I just bought a super cheap Kiev 4 with a Jupiter 8 lens and it surprisingly makes the sharpest photos even on F2.8, so it was the best decision to get one.
Congratulations, I did exactly the same thing when I thought about buying my first Leica. I'm glad that I've done it. I actually love to shoot with the external light meter from Keks, and I also love not having to put a battery in my camera to use it. I'm sure you will have a great time with it. Cheers!
Yeah, pretty much all Leicas are the same. What matters are the lenses. But yeah, I always saw M6 and M4P as the same camera with slightly unnoticeable differences. Great video!
Dope video man ! I have an M4-P also, and I gotta be honest...shooting Ektar 160 thru it and also thru a Minolta 40mm lens, I have been pretty blah with the images lol. I'm gonna try a Voight on it, and some Portra...and see if it's any different. I'm guessing it will be. Oh yeah, your photos in the video on the BEACH, were amazing. For me, that kept hope alive lol.
I have an M4 …… great camera ….. after using it for a while, I have a new found appreciation for my black eye level finder Nikon F …… Old Nikon fully mechanical SLRs are equally if not better built machines ….. great vid!
The Leica M4-P is every bit as much a Leica as any M6, or any Leica film camera for that matter. This comes from a guy that has been shooting an M6 for the last 25 years, and an M4-P before that. Congratulations on your find. Enjoy!
Hello ;) It is really good Leica. My 1st was IIIa now i own M4. Light meter in all Leica is.... leave it like it is. :3 M4 rules o/ B4 i leave i must ask. How many roll You done now and how many times You got it in service? Me My M4 - 1st. 75-78 and 1 service [stuck advance leavel]. IIIa 1st roll service than 5 roll another service but still this is my best camera ;3 It broke sometimes but it was made in 1937. hmmmm but my 1st SLR was Canon rebel 2000 and.... after 14 Years it still work fine, no problems... only battery and all my photo as razer sharp.
Like you I wasn't entirely sure if I was going to end up liking Leica so I went for the M4 (I have the budget for an M6 but I find it absurd to spend that much on a film camera unless I can justify it somehow, which let's be real it's hard to). I do kind of dislike the glorification of film cameras especially the M6. There are many cameras that do the job just as well (I have a Pentax LX for example and it's equally my favorite camera, if not my favorite).
I have a Leica M4 with a voïgtlander and well, after a year with I finally decided to buy a Nikon FM with a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and it kicks the M4 ass way out of the park. I love the build of the M4 but the Nikon FM is a solide all metal mechanical camera as well with a light meter a depth of field indicator and is solid. so A leica without a Leica lens to me is just for show. so I'll keep my M4 cause it looks great but honnestly the Nikon Fm is a much better camera for 300$
I bought 2 Olympus OM-1s, 4 lenses, and then added on a Zuiko 50mm 1.4... for under $200. And now I have money for truckloads of film. Or a Fuji camera. Or a Hasselblad :)
I use a Leitz Minolta CL which is the Minolta/Leica collab ... some people say it's not a real Leica and look down on it, but I dig it ... I do have a real Leica, a Leica IIIf ... the Leitz Miniolta is easier to load!@
I got an m4-p too a few years ago- no regrets whatsoever. mine was actually the last year leica made bodies with brass vs aluminum. m6's were only ever made with aluminum- they are worse in my opinion lmao. no electronics, just purely robust yet precision engineering. I love the m4-p and will never sell it
Nice video, the M4 is definitely not a poor men M6. The M4 is great. The hype about the M6 is not justify. I owned three M6 and today a M2 and a MP. My favorite day-camera is the M2. There is no need for a M6, there’s also no need for made in Germany, buy the way I’m living in Germany. Made in Canada or made in Portugal is the same quality. So for my, you make the right decision 👍
i like taking routes nobody else is taking. congrats on your m4-p. you might take a look at the M5. cheapest leica m available. with a better lightmeter then the m6.
wow ! what a good guy ! not often I see in media good people moreover never one may say . thanks for vid . don't change ! ps I love everything about film photography BUT the developing and printing - it kills the idea of freedom and egregiously tiresome and redundant . also makes you dependent on way to many things and variables . this why I never shot film(only as a kid pre digit era ) and never will . best of luck @georges_angeles
