This is not something that I ever thought would happen, mainly because I am not the Morgan typical customer, nor did I have any great desire to own one yet. Except maybe the Three-Wheeler.
But this week, it’s another first for TheCarGuys. Damian’s FIRST EVER DRIVE in a Morgan, and it’s the mighty Aero 8 SuperSports.
What’s the it like to drive a 4.8L slippery-bodied Morgan? Is it scary? Is it safe? Did it shoot off the road into a ditch at the first sight of a corner? What’s the build quality like? How does it sound? Could TheCarGuys live with it? Did we give it the Beans? Should it be added to TheCarGuys’ garage. All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode.

The car that Richard Hammond owned now resdies in Melbourne and the owner, on his death, intends to have a big hole dug on his farm, concrete line it, have his body embalmed, and to be buried in it, one hand on the wheel and the other holding a big cigar. It's that sort of car...truly memorable.

Wonderful. I love cars with a character and they don't get much bigger than that. I just can't get excited about EVs and hybrids. My money will be going into big engined old stuff you still have to drive. Think I might try a Morgan Plus 8.

I love the character of these cars, but that glove box finish is unforgivable! A few pence for a piece of pattern-cut plastic or fibreboard, covered in something and clipped in, or even velcroed. 😖 Liking this channel more & more though. Nice to have a Tubist actually talking to you, rather than shouting at you and giggling, with a load of clichés every 2 minutes! 👍

When lockdown lifts I can highly recommend a night at the Courthouse B&B at Shelsey Walsh (famed for its hill climb) in the Malverns complete with the hire of a Morgan Plus four.

Either this one or a 2016 if you can find one. I make this request selfishly so that I may live vicariously through watching you drive it on your channel; but also for all of us that are not in the position to have one please....

Had a aero 8 the response I had every time I took it out was either really postive from people jumping in the road to take pics or football fans in london applauding it . To peoples complete revulsion to it , def a marmite . More positive then negative. Not that reliable. But a great Sunday afternoon car . If you want to be different &get noticed every time . Than this is for you.

This is just a beautiful artefact - they are not making them anymore over time they will be sought after. As you say passers by just love the look. Knock out a Ferrari - this so needs a place in the garage .

What is special is the fact that the driver sits on the rear axle looking over the long bonnet with a short stubby boot like the e86 BMW Z4 of past memories. What a beauty!

Conceptually, German car manufacturer Wiessmann is making very similar cars; A barebones driver with a distinctively old-school design and BMW engines. Also highly customizable and very expensive.

Awesome video and what a car! When you posted a few days ago that you were going to be driving something unusual and unlikely to pull the viewing figures i had visions of a rare Perodua Kelisa. 😂 As for the car...Morgan is just one those car brands. Cannot see myself owning one and yet... i would still love to have one. Completely irrational, madness in every single way but there you go. I don’t even look like a typical morgan owner!!! 😳

As I first started watching this vid, Damian, I thought you might have taken some drugs! 😳 But then I slowly started to appreciate this somewhat eccentric car... (The only thing I really hate is the interior and the fact that Richard Hammond had one) but as the vid went on, I think you delivered more chuckles per mile than any video I have ever seen! 😆 They used to award the Victoria Cross to men who showed your level of valour in driving this ! 🤣

It wasn't actually an Aero Supersports that Hammond had, it was an Aeromax. But yes the interior on the series 4 wasn't fantastic, but search up the series 5 Aero 8 interior, they fixed all the problems!

Truly excellent, a proper motor car. Don’t think you will forget that experience in a long time. For 100k though you would seriously have to have Morgan blood ripping through your veins as I don’t think I could forgive the switchgear or the raided parts bin interior. I almost got a nearly new Morgan Roadster, with the Ford 6 cylinder engine from a Dubai dealer, but then I realized there was nobody to service it and I would have to deal with that stupid soft top mechanism and I decided instead to get a 2010 350 SL (R230.2) Mercedes with low miles which comes with the spring suspension (instead of the fussy ABC versions of the bigger engine versions). Added bonus was that the Merc was a third the price of the Morgan. Rationality won out. But as you are in the UK and you have access to many Morgan dealers and specialists, your decision is excellent as the Aero is brilliant. Please enjoy it for us (too) and share your adventures...

Welcome to the club!! I have a 2017 3.7 V6 Roadster and love it, a truly unique drive, real automotive theatre!! Standby to have some amazing conversations with anyone and everyone, kids to granny’s are equally curious. Love that V8, but decided not to do the Plus 8 which almost happened... instead a fat exhaust on the V6 is 90% as nice, but there is a third pedal which is refreshing after having an auto in my other two motors. That pothole 🤣🤣 get used to scanning the road continually for those mini-crashes, it’s a full on experience that requires your full attention all of the time!! 🇬🇧 Oh, my mistake... only realised it was a review at the very end 🤣 thought you’d bought it “My First Morgan Drive” perhaps? Sorry, you’ll be welcome to the club when you make the move 🤣🤣🤣

Lovely honest review and reminiscent of how I fell for the charms of Morgans. The main thing I found and you highlighted is how friendly the car is to the public. You make friends everywhere you go. My first Morgan was an Aero Coupe the hard top sibling of the SuperSport. Rarer and stiffer than the SS due to its fixed roof. The handling is something you learn to trust and push because it’s mechanical connection between car and driver is a thing of the past it takes a bit of dialling in but it’s a wonderful thing to hustle and isn’t as bitey as you might think. Of course you can’t take liberties with no TC but given you are say almost over the rear axle you feel the back go before it becomes too wayward. The gearbox is a little slow by today’s standards but you just have to think ahead if using the sequential shift. Plus because the engine is so torquey you rarely need to change gear to get a shuffle on and if you pin it the cogs are dropped plenty quick enough to get the skirt picked up and off you go. The Coupe and SS were built on the same chassis as the Aeromax and the suspension is connect directly to the chassis which is why it’s so... unforgiving. The next generation S5 is a more compliant car and the interior is more refined. My latest Morgan (I also have a 3 wheeler and if you haven’t scratched that itch you need to. The most fun car you will ever drive) is an Aero GT so the last of the V8 Morgans. This car had some further modifications over the standard S5 and all 8 that were produced are manual. Shout if you want to compare the end of the era with what you have just experienced. Welcome to the world of Morgan.

That's the best looking Aero 8 I've seen. Love the colours. Very very mean. I did see one at Le Mans (the town while the race weekend was on) driven by the then owner of the company, Charles Morgan. This one is much better looking.

Every video that I watch about this car has just a few dislikes, sometimes just no dislikes. That you can tell that it's really a beautiful car that everyone would love. Maybe the dislikes are about technical of the car, but for the overall design of the car it's every man's ideal car.
