My first motorcycle ride: Over 700 km on a Honda CBF 250

I went out to buy my first motorcycle some 720 km from the place I live and rode it back home. Other than the motorcycle course that I took 6 months ago, I had no real prior experience. The model is Honda CBF 250 (yes... a small bike) and the experience was unique and exhausting. So yeah, I rode my first (dirt cheap) bike with some mechanical issues across Romania.
I was fortunate enough to make it back home safe, as I knew the bike's flaws and limits as well as mine and as a result, I rode within the "safety parameters" that I've set. And if you think my riding was too slow, it's fine... that's how I wanted it to be, and I kept it that way till I got home. Nevertheless, it was a huge risk that I undertook and if anyone asks me why... well I guess simply because I wanted to. I cannot explain why. I knew I had to take on this adventure...
All that being said, I want to stress out a few of things for the new riders out there:
1. Wear protective gear at all times.
2. Be aware of both you and your bike's limits. And respect those limits.
3. Don't imagine that such a long trip is awesome because it ain't. After 200km you feel like just dumping the bike and going back home on a bus or something.
4. Don't do this. And if you're going to anyways... well then you better commit to it 100%.
5. Spend the night over somewhere but not on the road. Don't be like us. We were fools not to consider the fatigue factor.
I also want to thank my crazy buddy Adrian for supporting me in this adventure. I may have rode 750 km on the bike, but the MAN drove 1500km in 28 hours and kept my ride safe. He's the one with the silver car in front of me most of the times. And we made a promise not to try this stuff ever again. Thanks bro!

Howdy. Umm the bike can take a beating that's for sure. I went for a ride about 300km a couple of weeks ago and I was doing over 120 km/h but that was me pushing the bike quite a bit. Alone, at 90-100 km/h you should be able to cruise easily over long distances. With a passenger though, it will feel a bit sluggish, but it cand get you from point A to point B. Again, the bike can be quite the workhorse, easy to maintain if you know what your're doing. I had to work on mine a bit because it had a few minor issues here and there. Just don't expect to be able to pass cars very quick that go at 90-100 km/h with a passenger. I was planning on putting the work I did on my bike on youtube but since I was kind of figuring my way around, the recorded material feels quite boring. I checked the valve clearances on it, replaced the engine head gasket, sealed the starter motor in between where the gaskets were with gasket seal because I couldn't take it appart. Took the chain drive tensioner off without knowing how it works and then having to dismantle it to bits and re-tension it, cleaned the carburetor and replaced the bottom gasket where the float sits because it was slowly leaking fuel, replaced break fluid, mirrors, etc. So I think I spent around over 500 more euros to bring it up to speed. I plan to keep it this summer as an almost daily commute from home to office because I can lane split my way with ease since it is small and nimble. But afterwards I may end up selling it, though I don't know for sure. Anyhow, just be careful with the engine casing because it is made from aluminium and if you ever have to take out parts, or do the routine oil and filter change, you may end up with stripped bolt holes like I did on mine even though I used a torque wrench adjusted at the exact torque as in the manual. Maybe the previous owners overscrewed the bolts too much. Just go easy on them and enjoy the ride! 🤘😄
