For most of my adult life I was a punk drug user party animal womanizer then finally met a good woman 5 years ago who had 2 young kids. It was easy to love them because they were so sweet and thought the world of me (despite having a dad in their life who was definitely a good dad). I used to think about this movie a lot (saw it when I was a kid on TV) and we taught the kids to scream, run, fight, etc if they ever had any situation where soneone tried to take them or something.
I always felt bad for Cary, his Dad was so mean to him after Steven got kidnapped, always pushing him away and not giving him the time of day as if it was his fault his brother got kidnapped. Doesn't mean that he should have become a serial killer, though. And it's so sad and tragic (to say the least) about what happened to Steven and Timmy, too, dying so young!
This movie was fun to watch as a youngster but when you get married with kids you might be scared to watch this movie worrying about your child being kidnapped like Steven.
I am sort of from the same generation as this...6 years younger than Steven was, and children walking home alone from school back then was the norm. Incidents like the one in this movie, were more of an exception, but unfortunately it's the norm now. Especially here in Northern California, where sex offenders are freaking everywhere.
I'm the same generation. It was common for young kids to walk home alone. However my 2 brothers & I had to wait at school gates until my mum came by car. She was always late. We were so jealous of kids who could wander off. A couple times we were the last ones, so started walking. Mum found us along the road & was furious in case something happened. By the time we were 11yrs old we were allowed to bike/walk home alone.
No the dad really wasn’t a good guy actually he was molesting his daughters, wasn’t allowing Steven to go to therapy and eventually kicked Steven out of the house. He was a horrible man.
@@Peoplebeingpeople1 those are rumors with zero substance. The dad was ruined and cried every night according to their children in interviews. It was the mother who was cold hearted an.d distant. There's a part in the movie the night Steven comes home the mom wants his dog to sleep in the garage before Steven says he will sleep in the garage too. That was a true account and not made up. Their own son just came home after 7 years and his best and only friend, his dog, wasn't even welcomed in the house. What an absolute c#nt.
@@Peoplebeingpeople1 Including him being a Fucking Bastard but why was he pictured with his Son Steven while holding his Daughter and Granddaughter Ashley years after returning home
His name was Murphy. He was arrested right after Parnell was and sentenced to 2 years in prison. Steven forgave him because he was mentally challenged and was unaware of Parnell's intentions. He was easily manipulated but Steven claims he was very kind to him
Why do people bother having children if they can't be bothered to get them to and from school like a parent should be! Even back then they knew how dangerous the world was and even back then knew there were dangerous predators around, times haven't changed that much, the risk has always been there but its those that don't give a rats about their kids are the ones that's them run the streets
My Mom and Dad got a divorce back when me & My Sister were little when my Brother was with us and my other Brother was living with his Stepmom during that year after my other Sister who we hadn't met died
That's a pretty harsh thing to say... Considering he lived three blocks from school. I walked to school every morning. 2 kilometers in fact. I was never abducted. If you use your eyes. You know he was picked up at school.. Not on his way home. Sounds like you don't have kids... And kids need to be allowed to walk to school as long as its a safe road. With pavements. Anxious parents are even more dangerous for kids. If someone are out to harm.. They will do so.. Nomatter if your kid is in the schoolyard.. In the block or outside their home. I guess you would keep your kids indoors in jail.
a whoopin or be grounded with my privileges being taken away anything will be better then not eating. I know that Stephen did wrong but I'm making him Miss dinner was a little harsh and nowadays it would be considered child abuse never punish a child by denying them food. maybe dessert but not dinner
I was around back then. I personally didn't (cook dinner) and I don't know any kids who did at 8 yrs old. My Mom let me bake cakes and brownies but it was if I asked if I could (she didn't make me). I suppose every situation is different
@@mcpeewee68 yes, and his oldest brother was playing the piano at 2 years old, and his other brother took things apart and fixed things... they all had their natural talents at that young age... his sister was a little flirt... lol!
Why didn't The MOTHER CALL THE POLICE AND GO UP TO THE SCHOOL IN ADDITION, I AM GOING TO SEE ABOUT MY CHILD. THAT CHILD COMING HOME BY HIS SELF AT NIGHTIME IN ADDITION, WAS A HUGE RED FLAG
Del Stayner molested his 3 daughters and Kay was molested by her father when she was young. Her father lived with the family briefly and Kay kept him away from his granddaughters.
