I was a CW operator in 1957 while stationed in Germany and used some old equipment and when I operated for Headquarters I used Hallicrafters equipment but it looked newer than the 610. In my own unit I used a WW ll SCR 506 and also the newer ANGRC 19. thanks for showing your equipment.
I was a CW operator in 1955 in Germany - used an scr-506 until I (first operator who'd ever seen AN/GRC-26A) arrived and was given the task of getting the GRC-26A on line - took me some time reading and trying but got it done.

Thanks for the interesting information. I'll try to make a video about AN / GRC-26 later this year. I bought an AN / GRC-26 from the Norwegian Armed Forces some years ago. I then lived in an apartment building and unfortunately had to give it away. I know him who has it and wants to visit him and make a video.

I worked in a 26C with der R-388 receivers and the old TELETYPE Model 14 (tape) and 15 (pageprinter) and the 26D with R-390 receivers and Kleinschmidt TT-76 (tape) and TT-98 (pageprinter)... The 26D had the modernized version of the BC-610, the T-368 in grey color... I really liked the shelters very much ! This was the start of my interest in RTTY and Cryptology, which was my job until retirement...

We had a BC-610 at Ohio State Univ radio club W8LT when I was there in early 1960s. We drove it with a Johnson VFO-122. Along with a 75A-4 made a fine QSK rig. Drove a double extended Zepp running from the top of the OSU stadium to the power plant chimney; 100' of open wire feed just touched the. ground. World paid attention when that rig was keyed!! Routinely worked KC4 on 40M. Wally K8BYT actually chased down all the parasitics in that rig! Bill Hale K8JIX. now K0QA

It was a military transmitter, made during a time when tubes was king, and you had to have massive power to make it semi reliable. There is nothing great about the transmitter. Even the cheapest new radio is 10 times better. It's just old. Not great, just old!
