Great have Anna back now all we need is Rick back and we've got the best presenters back, Another presenter I've been missing is Kate has she left the channel?
@@runningchannel Yes, and perhaps some advice regards what breeds are more suited, oh and potential hazards like deer etc, would improve my top end speed !!!
Anna & Ralph, you are complete naturals. Really looking forward to seeing you in that Canicross event! Coco and Stanley loved showing Ralph their favourite trails too 🐾🐾🧡🧡
We got a dog about a year ago. She completely scuppered my running routine. However I've learnt to run around my new routine, and a few weeks ago I took her out for her first run with me. It benefits us both now. I can squeeze an extra run in on a Saturday morning and she gets the exercise but I've not invested in a canicross belt yet 😳 but Roxy is loving it (and me too) ❤️
What fun!! Ralphie looked like he was having a blast, he took to it so quickly! I really can't wait to get a dog I can run with! My 95 lb beat is only good for short sprinting increments, but I want to go long.
@@runningchannel I'm waiting to hear from a local canicross expert and fit her harness properly as she's just been running behind me when we go out! I'm new to trail running only started about 6weeks ago so slowly does it but it's so good for her and me and of course so much fun!! Typical cocker she gets excited as soon as I put my running gear on 😂😂
Awesome well done to you and Ralph ❤🐾🏃♀️ I run with my Casper but I don’t have a lead that clips around my waist but a dog as a running mate is the best ❤️🐾🏃♀️
In Germany we have another dog-related sport other than canicross, called "Turnierhundesport"(Short THS). In this THS you can start at 1k, 2k and 5k races. The races usually are offroad, too. In former times you ran with the dog on the leash in hand. Today most of the people run with the the dog on the leash with hands-free. The Hands-free version needs to have an emergency-release hook to release the dog in case of falling, etc. Regarding the breeds of the dogs: Many enthusiastic people prefer dogs, that can be taught easily, like Australian shephards, Border Collies and the like because they often also do other disciplines like obedience or some all-around (which consists of many different disciplines) AND the dogs are quite fast. But most of the people, who just want to do some sports with their dogs, do not look for a special breed. On competitions I saw many different breeds, from Chihuahua to Danes or crossbreeds.
We have always had dogs at home! Both, my children and the dogs hate running🤣the dogs go and hide under the bed when I start getting ready for a run😵💫One my fantasies that seems difficult to achieve 😩
Should I really train the dog to pull when we’re running? Or should I train my dog to maintain some slack? What is your opinion on bungee leashes for running?
Really fun to watch, I tried it for a couple of times with my dog but she pulls like a maniac and I'm sore for days for having to hit the brakes the whole time... shins and quads totally shot. Still looking for a way to make it more fun. So I'll be checking out the website I guess. You got me enthusiastic again thnx!
This was a great video to watch. I'd love to do this with my doggo Shadow, but he is 10 years old now, loves to run off lead but when he is on the lead, he sniffs like very few minutes and I've tried running with him on a normal lead but he doesn't like it, looks at me like I've lost my marbles (he's probably not wrong 😂), maybe this isn't for us but I hope more people can get in to this, great exercise for both fur baby and hooman 👌
The specific kit used in Canicross paired with the commands helps to focus the dogs. We've got an 11 year old ex-gundog running with us currently who is really focused once she's n the kit and following the pack! Never say never!!
I’ve just started running with my one year old Labrador, he loves it. Although the one thing I have noticed in these two videos is you always seem to have your dog attached to you. When it’s safe I let my boy off so he can have a bit of freedom and do what he wants to do, the run is also for him as well and I want him to enjoy it
The sport of Canicross keeps the dog attached and Ralph and Anna are being introduced to the sport here. In events and races, the dogs need to be attached throughout for safety reasons but in training you can mix up free running with miles in harness as you wish. The miles in harness help train the teamwork and listening to commands needed when on the trails with others in an event situation. Glad to hear you are enjoying running with your lab too 🐾🧡
Not sure if I’d be going dogging? Sorry I mean running with my dog. If your dog is anything like mine it’s let’s find a squirrel, bird found fox poo. So by the end I’d be a smelly mess stuck up a tree. This is great though, something different.
When they announced the change to the rules they explained the background to it based on statistics around injuries that happen during parkruns. So in that sense it makes sense. It's a bit of a shame because I love to see the dogs really going for it, but you can still run with a hand held lead and there are still plenty of dogs joining in, so it's probably a good compromise.
I think that's kinda the goal at canicross though! I use different harnesses with runs (when she's allowed up pull) and for walks (where she isn't). Dogs are very clever, they can learn the difference ;)
Teach your dog how to walk properly on a lead and the running will come naturally. I do it all the time. Don’t over think it. Just my thoughts. Thank you.
