Firstly, loved this line, “I’m the world champion at a race that goes for 4 hours.” Secondly, I prefer hot racing when it’s cold and cold racing when it’s hot! Lol

i prefer colder climates! you can always layer up and warm up as you go and take off layers as needed. hot climates…you cant keep taking layers off at a certain point 😅

I love when its warm and cosy. I hate cold water as i can barely breath in it. The whole body is just more relaxed in the heat, but i fight to not get overheated and try to rest wet the whole time. We will miss you racing Lucy but have a good break and see you next year! 👍

Defenetly colder conditions. In warm I feel like I distroy myself. Done the half marathon in Hamburg at over 30 C, that was terrible. So better as cold as possible. Never got problems to run at - 10 C or colder.

I prefer racing in hot weather more than cold weather. I had a few race experiences swimming in cold water and always felt dizzy on my way out. I actually crashed on my first lap during the bike course before because I got way too dizzy from the cold. It was painful honestly but I had a laugh later on after the race. To add to that, I have no clue if there is a correlation but I actually swim better when the conditions are warm/hot. Last week during WCTS Abu Dhabi I managed to improve my time by 30 seconds... and that's a lot for a swim thats 750 Meters. I came out 20th overall and we were about 400+ athletes. In general I prefer the heat! By the way, it was an honour meeting you and taking a photo with you. Thank you for your time Lucy!

Cold conditions by far. My transpiration levels are much higher in the hot, so cramping and GI issues come easier. Furthermore, if you are mentally prepared to handle rain or hard conditions, you have already won lots of positions in the final ranking before the race starts because usually people don't like to perform in the rain or cold

I like warm weather racing more. Partly because its much easier to warm up and do all the pre-race stuff when its not 12C outside and partly because I hate riding and running with bare feet in the cold.

I love racing in "perfect weather". Not too hot, not too cold! I started triathlon in Australia so it was very hot but the weather was always beautiful. Swimming in the beautiful sea on the Gold Coast, riding along the wide roads and running beside the beach is ALWAYS more enjoyeable when the sun is out. When it is raining, I'm constantly worrying about how wet everything is going to be by the time I get to transition. Rain makes everything harder for my parents supporting me on scene too :)

I have become addicted to your channel and seeing your progression as an athlete and your on screen presence. As per your question about hot or cold racing I definatel prefer hot weather because I'm from Florida. I have raced hot and cold in all distances and prefer heat management over trying to keep my core warm. But seriously give me partly cloudy and 70° (21°c) with no wind anyday...

I personally prefer Hot climate for race for following reasons : 1. Faster T1 as there is no wet suit to worry about . 2. No cold air shock to the core system during the bike leg . 3. Lesser training and event gear required . 4. Warm up duration required is lesser as compared to cold climate condition . 5. Can enjoy ice cold water as part of hydration. 6. You can slack off a bit during aero position on the bike as hotter air is less denser as compared to colder air .

Definitely hot! I'm not the fastest and (even with bribes of cocoa) there's a limit to how long you can ask your support team to hang around for you when its cold and wet out.

I like the cold, for racing and training, it feels less sweat and you can just ease in and not be as hot. Its liek running in the cold is cold when you start but it feels nice after you get a little warmed up, but you dont overheat as easily.

Hey Lucy, thanks so much for this video! I was waiting for this one so impatiently. I saw your race in Abu Dhabi on tv and was cheering you and GTB. Kudos to your great T1. Thanks for sharing your tactics and insights of your race here. This is not typical, so I really appreciate it. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that, when you train to improve your VO2 max to being able to push those quick kicks to stay in the pack is not going to have a negative effect on your long-race endurance skills. I really want to see you win Kona 2022. I believe you can crush it next year! I actually love to train in the heat, however I always preferred to race in the cold - ideally with wind. This always gave me an advantage whereas the heat had its toll. A really big fan of Team CB😊

I live in Canada so I have a clear preference for ...hot weather. You can only like cold weather when it never gets really cold and when the cold doesn't last for a long time. The only good thing about running in the cold this morning? It felt acceptable to nap 90 minutes under a warm blanket.

Hi Lucy… first of all I would like to thank you for taking picture with me and my family… really impressed about your amazing joy… which I am sure each fan loved… well I can definitely say, after 11 years leaving in UAE 🇦🇪 that racing in colder climate is much more enjoyable; in fact some how you can protect yourself while when it is hot and humid there little you can do… I would add that it also improves performances… I can feel it every time I fly back to Europe… I wish you all the best for the future and, as I was sure about your success on WC 70.3, I am super confident I will see you at the Olympic in Paris…the IM WC title is already in the pipeline 💪💪💪

Definitly warmer conditions. I struggle a lot with cold conditions by getting cold hands, cold feet, shivering and so on. I even have to wear gloves when it is around 7-10°C :D I always think people are mad when wearing shortsleeves without gloves in freezing conditions. So definitly warm conditions. And i also think that i can cope warmer conditions pretty good just as you said.

Have to choose hot 🔥 I find it hard to remember hydration and nutrition in the cold, and lungs take a while to warm up and get in the rhythm. Cold swims are torturous. And there's nothing worse than freezing cold hands on the bike or running with two ice blocks as feet (a literal brick session) 🙈 Loved watching you race in short course again! My last Sprint was 7C/44F and I put in my best performance. For me, that's a cold race, especially after T1 and getting on the bike all wet. It didn't take too long to warm up. Cold climate. I am a bigger athlete and really struggle to stay cool on hot runs and find over heating on the run one of the most demoralizing experiences in racing. That being said, I raced lake placid a few years ago where it was right at freezing on the bike and trying to find last minute adaptions or packable adaptions to extreme cold is very difficult. In all give me a colder race over a warmer race because I can put on layers but can only get so naked for a race.

That is a tough question! But I am going for hot weather. I feel there is a lot one can do to cool the body down but much fewer options when the body is cooling down - this is especially problematic considering you getting wet on the bike. In a cold climate, getting wet on the bike is the absolute worst for me. And let's not forget about those frozen toes. So, I am opting for hot. Dry-hot. (not humid hot)

Its definitely cold for me. When I'm overheating there's almost nothing to be done and GI issues or cramps usually follow. . In colder weather you can always add layers. The only thing about cold weather racing/training is that you can't stop. Take a break and your body temp just plummets due to the sweat and that can be difficult to come back from.

Prefer somewhere in the middle but if you had to choose, colder rather than hotter. I sweat like a pig so no fun. Look forward to seeing you race more short course!

I always sign up for race in warm climates as they look amazing and you get a good holiday afterwards, but as I’m Scottish and turn pink at the slightest hint of sunshine, I don’t race well in the heat so do better in cooler climates.

I have only ever raced in England and it was raining! Which was nice as it kept me cool I guess! But I think I’d rather race in the heat..might suffer a bit more but who doesn’t love a tan?

Amazing race Lucy! We really enjoy following you through your experiences. So true about Abu Dhabi and taking away valuable learnings. My wife and I love to race in the heat....it means after the event we are probably in an amazing location where we can spend time together enjoying that post-race sense of accomplishment together. We are competitive, not professional so it's all about the experiences and journey as a couple!! September was IM Chattanooga then a week on the beach in Florida (on the IM Florida course)! Thank you for everything you do. You continue to inspire us everyday. Much love and gratitude :)

I definitely prefer colder conditions and personally the climate in the UK is the ideal one.
