no it will slip under that much power , I have tried both ways on and off , don't matter what I do 4l60e trans will not shift under that much power no 3rd gear , I had 2 of them fail and now I got a th350 in it

Not a dumb question. Most people with their first car have the money for s lockup converter. They are very expensive .
