You're basically eating fast food (pizza, burgers, fries) Marie at most of your stops. Vegetables are everywhere on any decent restaurant menu, and quite a bit have vegan options. Maybe in NY that changed?!

I’d agree I haven’t seen her eat anything thats not a chain restaurant or “fast food” in all these videos. Plenty of very good healthy local options in most places

@themourningstar338 Год назад
Agreed, came to the comments to say this. A lot of Americans don't eat that stuff on the regular, I certainly don't. There are many options for much healthier dining out and food on the go other than burgers/fries/pizza/hotdogs. Even going to mostly chain restaurants could be fine if they were taking her to anywhere other than burger/greasy spoon type places. I'd get sick if I ate like this.

Glad that you got to see the Constellation. I had a Uncle that served in the Navy for over 30 years from the 20s to the 50s. In the 1920s the Constellation was docked in the Philadelphia Navy Yard and 2 Admirals used it as their home and office. My Uncle was assigned to one of them and lived aboard the Constellation for over a year. After he retired from the Navy in the 50s, the Constellation was docked in a Baltimore shipyard to be refitted. He used to take me to the shipyard and show me the hooks on the ceiling where his hammock would hang. We (me and my cousins) would run all over the ship and even climb the rigging. Great memories of a great man.

Yay! I was born and raised in Baltimore! I only moved away a few years ago. Our best food is steamed blue crabs, crab cakes, and crab soup! Baltimore has a lot of really fun areas like Fells Point, Canton, and Federal Hill which are all within 10 minutes or so of the Inner Harbor. There's also a lot of history there. The US national anthem (the Star Spangled Banner) was written in Baltimore during the War of 1812 at the Battle of Baltimore.

I live in a high-traffic tourist location in Wisconsin (Door County) but I rarely get to go out and experience the place because I, like all locals, work all summer making sure our visitors have a nice time at our expense but the money is good at the end of the season since you don't have time to spend it either.

Hey French Girl , I like you videos. I like them because they are simple and direct. You do not put a lot of fake flash in your videos , trying to make things more interesting than they really are. When I watch your videos , I just feel like I am there with you walking and looking around. Refreshing !! Sometimes simple is best.

There’s one place in Baltimore you can not miss. Fort machenry. That is the site of the battle that gave us our national anthem. Francis Scott key was out in the bay watching the entire battle and feeling moved put pen to paper and wrote the entire poem that is the national anthem. The bombs burst in the air, the rockets soared, the cannons fired from the British side yet the flag never came down and wasn’t even damaged as it still waved in the air as we refused to surrender despite the odds being so lopsided. The British ships having run out of powder and ammunition retreated out to sea but the fort fired a cannon as the British left as a stern response of you tried and failed to take the fort and next time we will be even stronger ready for battle. The fort sustained zero damage but the city got hit by all the ammunition instead and civilians died as a result. The blasts lasted eight hours yet the fort refused to surrender. Many of the soldiers in that fort have descendants in the modern times yet they still don’t know how brave they were fighting for their families and lives. But some know now as people start researching their own families looking for history that was thought lost.

As a native Baltimoron - sorry, Baltimorian - I'm very happy that the city showed well and you had wonderful weather for your visit. The Inner Harbor is the nicest part of town and there's lots to see and experience there. I haven't been on the Constellation for many years but I do remember the low ceilings. I think it was being renovated the last time I was on it and much of it was off-limits. I don't remember the hammocks, for example, so maybe we couldn't go into that part of the ship. Well, I hope you enjoyed my hometown! Thanks for visiting!

Glad you had a good time in Charm City! If you ever go back, there are some really nice and authentic crab houses and other restaurants outside of the downtown area to discover the variety of Maryland seafood (hint: crabs). The Inner Harbor area was the centerpiece of a major urban revitalization project in the 1970s and 1980s. I can remember before that, when it very much looked like a gritty urban dock area. Another great neighborhood not far away (and also on the harbor) is Fells Point, a historic port neighborhood that looks essentially the same as it did 200 years ago (and maybe with the same number of bars). Back in the day, you had to be careful there, or you might wake up in the hold of a ship heading out to see, with you as part of the crew.

Yeah, it must suck having to eat out for every meal. That's definitely not the healthiest diet living here. Most people here (like everywhere else) eat at home most days and only eat out occasionally. But there is healthy food to be found. In the decent size cities you should be able to find fresh food options-- at the very least, places where you can build a good salad from fresh ingredients. Places like that will usually be away from touristy areas because short term visitors just want to hit the coolest, yummiest places before they leave. You need to find the kinds of places where soccer moms grab lunch after hot yoga lol. P.S. I ❤️ your videos!

I'm glad you enjoyed! I'm seconding a lot of the comments to check out a local neighborhood like Federal Hill, Fells Point, or Canton if you want to get a more authentic sense of the city's best. Inner Harbor is nice (especially the aquarium) but it's more so for tourists and concerts. Fells Point especially has such a great old town feeling and tons of bars and restaurants.

You went all the way to Baltimore, and ate at Hard Rock Cafe!? No local seafood? I hope your hosts cooked vegetables for you at home, since it seems like you guys only indulged in fast food/fried foods when you went out. Nothing wrong with indulging every now and then, especially when on vacation. I'm sure it was delicious. But most U.S. restaurants (not the fast food kind) have plenty of vegetables on the menu, and of course the grocery stores too. LOL! For the sake of your skin/complexion, I hope you partook of some fresh fruit and veggies while you were here.

Another fun video! I toured the USS Constitution in 1989! First commissioned in 1797 and fought in the War of 1812. Nicknamed Old Ironsides because cannon balls would bounce off its hull of live oak. I’ve read it was recently refreshed and is still a commissioned ship where the modern Navy can be assigned to it during exhibition sailings. The hammocks are ingenious to allow sleep while the ship is rolling at sea! But life aboard would have been hard. You definitely should have tried Maryland crabs with Old Bay seasoning.

The sister ship to The Constellation is The Constitution (in Boston). Sloops were often used as raiders and privateers along the coast because they were quick and manueverable. The British raided Baltimore Harbor in The War of 1812 (raid was 1814) after defeating Napoleon and attempted to cannonade Fort McHenry and burn Boston Harbor and its sloops. But the Fort never fell even under bombardment (the Star Spangled Banner Yet Waved). The British did burn Washington D.C. and the President's House was painted white to hide the scorch marks, thus it became the White House. Looks like you had fun this day.

*Loved* this video, especially the part on-board the "Constellation" ... my favorite part about traveling/visiting someplace is checking out the historical stuff! Especially a 'Living History' location, where you can go around and see just how people lived/worked, and touch/handle the things that they used! Always fascinating! It looks like you feel the same way. Did you get a chance to visit Jamestown or Williamsburg? (I don't remember seeing/hearing them mentioned in the videos.) Those are entire _towns_ that are museums, where you can see and handle parts of their lives, from centuries ago! We have one near me, about a 30 minute drive south of Rochester. Places like that are _so_ *very* cool! As you discovered, hammocks are *very* comfortable! (As long as you don't try to move around too much while sleeping!) Thanks for this! I'm glad you got to enjoy some of Downtown Baltimore and the USS Constellation. I went on it many decades ago. It was nice to see it again. I worked most of my career up the street about three blocks on St. Paul and Charles St for the Phone Co. I retired there as well. I used to go to the "Inner Harbor" many times after work and sometimes during lunch. I also remember taking my parents there before the "build-up". I've watched about five of your "America" segments thus far and have enjoyed them. I first found you as a reactor to the A Capella group, "Home Free" which I love so much. I noticed you had been missing for a while and I suspect your "world traveling" is a major reason for it. I hope you enjoy it and keep filming!

What a day, Marie!!! That was very cool, and you are the best tour guide ever 😉! P.S. Enterprise is slow here near my home too! And, you found a cute little dog - YAY - you have a perfect record 😄. A lovely day greeted you. (My face breaks out with certain foods too :(. There is lots of water around the city of Baltimore, with lots of historical boats (I have never been) that are so interesting. You found your Hard Rock Cafe, with so many fun pictures and instruments, and pretty good looking shrimp too. I loved seeing their aquarium with a sub in front - wow! The Texas State Aquarium is 4 hours from me. The 9/11 Memorial was nice for me to see, thanks! You were kind to the guitar playing man on the bench. What a choice - the U.S.S. Constellation War Ship (Sloop of War) from 1854 - WOW!!! The scenery around it was fun, and then that boat is beautiful, with all that wood, the thick ropes, such tall sailing masts, and the BIG steering wheels, along with that cool compass - that is really fun to see! Those steps down were so small and steep - you have to be careful for sure! That gun deck was impressive with the old cannons, the circular wound ropes, and all that beautiful wood, polished wood floors, brass, and bronze inside. All the rooms were so nicely labeled for the captain, marine lieutenant, surgeon, and others. The washroom was interesting and I loved the window seating (you tried them out when you looked around (curious Marie) 🤗)! I would have felt like I was finally a giant too Marie 😂🤣. The sleeping quarters were a fascinating scene of all those hammocks, and it was cool you got to try one out (without getting motion sick!) ("Life is Good" 😊). The medicines were impressive, and wow, that amputation equipment was almost scary! They were ready for anything! You even found the brig (jail) and the Chaplain's quarters (I almost decided to be one after my seminary work). The bottom was way down to the underbelly of the ship, the ship's hold, where they moved things around to balance the ship as it sailed. Thank you, thank you for such a wonderful tour of the Baltimore harbor and the Constellation, and letting us explore right there with you and your friend. Take care Marie, 🥰🤗🙏.

There is actually a lot less at the Baltimore Inner Harbor then there use to be. A lot of places have closed down.

It's cool to see someone take in the States for the first time. But we love visiting France. My wife grew up in Montreal but lived in Nice for a year as an exchange student. Our 3 kids attended full-immersion French grade schools here in San Diego. When we visit Paris and Nice, my kids are in heaven--mostly because I need their help to get around, lol

For those who are not up to ship lingo, the port side is the left side of the ship looking at it from the rear or aft of the ship looking towards the bow or front. The right side is called the starboard side. so going clockwise looking forward it's Bow, Starboard side, aft, Port side. Esdt way to remember Left has the same number of letters as Port.

Every time I hear Baltimore I think of the son Baltimore's fireflies by Woodkid, who is French. Odd synchronicity.

If you ever make it to Boston…you should visit USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”). A much older US wooden warship.

Absolutely. BTW, there is an excellent book about the founding of the US Navy by Ian Toll called 6 Frigates. Obviously, one of these was the USS Constitution.

Holy smokes Marie, you are experiencing so much, I'm a tad envious! The USS Constitution is on my to do list. If you have the opportunity, you must visit down South. We have some amazing places to visit, & I'll suggest Savannah, Ga area. Since you enjoyed the ship then you must visit Fort Pulaski & the Tybee Island lighthouse! Simply wonderful to see & experience. The live oak wood that the Constitution is made from comes from that area!

Been in the country my entire life, half a century, and seen less of it than Marie has seen in 2 weeks. So jealous and also so happy for you. Enjoy your trip and make some great memories. (restaurant food is normally pretty unhealthy) If you can survive till you get home you should recover. 😀

It is nice to see you having fun during your visit. Where I live, we only have mountains and caves. They are very beautiful, but they're just rocks and holes. What you have seen so far has been more interesting.

It can be hard to eat healthy when you're traveling. Sometimes I'll visit a supermarket and buy some carrots, celery, and fresh fruit and eat it in my hotel room. I hope you got to eat some crab cakes while you were in Baltimore. The city is famous for its blue crabs.

If you ever go back there again, you need to try something better than Hard Rock Cafe. While it is fine to do once, there had to be better places to eat. Also, crab is the specialty of that area. That is, unless you hate crab for some reason.

It's all good, but in a coastal city like Baltimore, you really wanted to go to a local seafood place for fresh shrimp off the boat, a place like Hard Rock Cafe probably uses frozen seafood from a supplier, most chain restaurants do. This is why Red Lobster can't keep a store open in New England.

Ahoy miss Marie ⚓ 🦐 ⛵ For a city that I'm less familiar with apart from it's navel history, I see now how it earned it's ' charm' nickname' & it was a beautiful day for a visit. It's cool that you'll started out at the Rock cafe with it's zany 🎸 along with having some shrimp of course. 😋 Going aboard the USS Constitution made a big impression imagining would it would have been like to be in the heat of battle with those cannons booming 💣, men must have been made of sterner stuff back then, did it occur that ship mates would have had to scrub all that deck you walked around to, it's fascinating that you got to get up close on everything understanding how it all operated & came together, you seemed quite taken having it all to yourself, the captain's quarters appeared to live quite well compared to the shipmates.i don't know like you if I could have gotten used to swaying in those hammock's along with having sea sickness, I guess your get used to it, I do know they would have used Tar throughout the Ship including where you went in the lower decks for the hull, & finally I did wonder if there was a treasure chest like in the movies that would have been filled with gold coins, if only you could have added that to your collection. It's been most informative, looking forward to where your curiosity takes you next. hopefully your managing the increase in comments okay , Thanks again french fry God bless 🤗 💗 ✌️

I get grabbing quick food from gas stations (although to be honest I've never had a gas station sandwich and I've lived my whole life here), but seeing you visit the Hard Rock for lunch as a tourist hurt my soul. It's too late now, but there's often a healthier and much better local option with just a quick look at Yelp.
