Raises his hands high in the air !! When she looks sideways and smiles in the video of “walk like an Egyptian” I about had a……..Well…it was pretty sexy !!! 😂😂😂
The Bangles were straight FIRE, back in the day. Prince wrote a song for the lead singer, because he had a crush on her. It's called "Manic Monday". Check out "Hero Takes a Fall", "Walk Like an Egyptian, and "In Your Room", as well as their cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter". This song was played at SO MANY weddings.
And from my favorite 80's movie "Less Than Zero" which REALLY makes me feel OLD thinking about Andrew McCarthy and Robert Downey Jr. playing college freshmen.
Loved both the Bangles and Belinda Carlisle and the Go-Go's. Guys loved them for one reason - This girly-girl just wanted to dress like them.🤣I still wear the same style retro sunglasses Belinda wears in the "Mad About You" video.🤣
Hazy Shade of Winter is a kick ass BANGER. The official video is a MUST watch. I love this song as well - and the bridge. I think it's a good mix - and just elevates it a little more.
Written by Susanna Hoffs, Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg. Classic 🙌 1980s ballad. Susanna Hoffs is the lead singer here. She graduated 🎓 from University of California across from my hometown San Francisco 🌉 . Then, she the Peterson sisters and Anne Zalinkas founded The Bangles. AZ left to play in another band. Michael Steele (born Susan Thomas) took her place. But in the 2010s, she retired. Anne Zalinkas returned. Kelly and Steinberg wrote many hit songs for or with The Pretenders, The Divinyls and others. Suggested videos 📹: 1 The Pretenders perform I'll Stand by You 2 The Divinyls perform I Touch Myself 3 The Bangles perform Hero Takes a Fall.
According to global record sales, Eternal Flame looks as if it was a slightly bigger hit globally than Walk Like An Egyptian. In the UK, Eternal Flame was their biggest hit by far, was played everywhere, and the only Bangles song to get to number 1 in the UK. Manic Monday got to number 2, Walk Like an Egyptian got to number 3. Personally, all 3 were so overplayed on the radio that I prefer their 'smaller' hits like 'In Your Room' and 'If She Knew What She Wants.'
1986 - A carload of teenage girls driving to school singing at the top of our lungs to Manic Monday blasting on the radio. Hello nostalgia. Nice to see you again. 😊✌️♥️
"Since its release, it has been covered by many musical artists, including Australian boy band Human Nature, who reached the Australian top 10 with their version, and British girl group Atomic Kitten, who topped four national charts with their rendition." It was also covered as a Japanese version by Tomoya Nagase with 3T in 1997, released under the name "Tomoya with 3T" Human Nature did a version in Australia in 1999. Atomic Kitten did it in 2001. Side note: Their song "Walk like an Egyptian was later used as the intro song for a season Of the Japanese anime Jojo's Bizare Adventures. So you had an LA girl group from the 80s, singing about walking like someone from Egypt, being used by a Japanese show (with a decent intro actually), that went viral around the world, including their home turf of LA, 30 odd years later.
Oh man...This one takes me all the way back! I love Walk like an Egyptian!! It's my go to Karaoke song! And by Karaoke, I mean singing like a fucking idiot in my bedroom! 🤣
What most people don't realise is that these women were quite old for a pop band at the time. You wouldn't have picked it (still wouldn't) but most were in their late 20's. The bass player would have been around 33. Didn't matter to me as a 16 year old boy, they all gave me warm fuzzy feelings at the time :)
Nostalgia OVERLOAD! I remember owning this cassette tape when I ordered it from Columbia House 12 cassettes for a penny🤣🤣You should DEFINITELY react to Roxette: 'Youve got the Look' & "Listen 2 your heart'
Oh man! The nostalgia I feel when I hear this!! I’ve always loved the song but it makes me feel like a 10 year old again sitting with my neighborhood friends during summer vacation watching MTV when it first aired!
Susanna Hoff is great on her own and was huge in the 80s with her band tge Bangles. The Bangles became a household name with their massive hit Walk Like an Egyptian. Prince wrote Manic Minday for them and other hits were Hazy Shade of Winter, a remake of a Simonnand Garfunkle song and eternal flame. The Bangles , The Gogos were two of the huge all female bands in the 80s. Hoff played at our radio Jingke Bell Rock event a few years ago and did an acoustic version of Eternal Flame. She's still gorgeous and a great performer and artist.
I was in middle school when this came out. I loved In a Different Light, Manic Monday, Walking Down Your Street, Eternal Flame and Return Post. I believe they all played instruments and wrote some of the songs. They all were really beautiful as well. Susanna Hoffs also recorded Eternal Flame nude as well as a lot of (or all of) the album.
That side glance she gave in the video made every teenage boy at the time fall in love! It may have been Walk Like an Egyptian with the side glance, but this video sealed the deal! LOL
I've always felt the same about this song. The chorus is so beautiful and the connecting part is kind of jarring and I can't wait for the beautiful part to come back. Consider though that the contrast between the two could be what makes the lovely part stand out even more! Have you reacted to "Walk Like an Egyption"? That one is fun!
How does a red-blooded male in his 40's not only know not about the Bangels, but not have a full-blown crush on Susanna Hoffs? She was my sexual awakening! And besides that, the Bangels are true rockers who have a pretty amazing discoraphy. And this is the only version of this song that exists, to my knowledge. Funny enough, their only large cover "Hazy Shade of Winter" is a cover of a Simon & Garfunkle song, and is a 180 from the original version. I highly suggest that song, and pretty much their entire catalogue.
Like others are saying I had a HUGE crush on Susanna Hoffs when I was a youngin'. I remember seeing the debut of Walk Like an Egyptian, and when she looks up with those eyes, and says "walk like an Egyptian" I was in Love! The Bangles had some bops like "Walk Like an Egyptian", "Maniac Monday", and "Hazy Shade of Winter".
They had a short shelf life but had 3 MASSIVE hits with Eternal Flame, Walk LIke an Egyptian and Manic Monday. Those are distinct sounding and different.
If you google the band with IMDB it will show you where and what songs have been on different shows and movies. Lot of mentions for this. Also for my favorite song by them Hazy Shade of Winter.
Whaaaaat WHAT!!!!! God damn was Suzanna Hoffs the absolute crush of all guys in the 80’s. What a beautiful woman. Although side story, as a boy growing up in the 80s, the first moment I remember having where a girl made me feel some type of movement or way was believe it or NOT, Jessica Rabbit….a cartoon curvaceous woman. She made my palms sweat and just feel different 😅
there is a western PopGroup/BoysBand like Westlife called "Human Nature" which was formed in 89' and they covered this Eternal Flame song in 99'. So, I heard this song from Human Nature first before a few years later I found out that this was the first time The Bangles performed it.
This is one of my favorite songs of the Bangles. I highly recommend checking out Manic Monday, in my top 10 favorite songs of all time. So many guys had the hots for Susanna Hoffs. She tended to get separated from the group because of her beauty and voice. The Bangles were kind of unique in that in several of their songs, especially the earlier stuff, all the ladies sang. Walk like an Egyptian is a great example of this. If you haven't seen the video, you owe it to yourself to check it out.. It is really dated at this point but it is very fun and a window into the 80's.
I am 48. Yes love the 80s. Oh yeah. This is the video I watched. It was that phrase that caught & stuck with you man. It is like Eric Carmen's. Lose control. I was tortured by that song at 13. Couldn't find out the name of the song. My mom caught me singing it in my sleep when it was playing at night. I was in my 40s before I knew the name of that song. Turn the radio up for that sweet sound hold me close never let me go. Keep this feeling alive. This part is what haunted me up until I was up in my 40s.
Susanna was the crush of every teenage boy at that time and who’s to argue gorgeous then and now. But my heart went pitter patter for the drummer Debbi Peterson. Was an is my favorite Bangle.
Had such a crush on Susanna Hoffs back in the day! The Bangles wrote some great songs. Even while most remember "Walk Like an Egyptian" and that gets the attention, they wrote some great music. Prince helped them out initially by writing the song, "Manic Monday", which helped kick their career into gear, but most of their own music was also excellent - "Hazy Shade of Winter" is a Simon & Garfunkel remake for the LESS THAN ZERO soundtrack and is very well done, "In Your Room" and more.
I had such a crush on Susanna Hoffs back in the day. This is the biggest version of this song but it has been used in a few movies and a commercial or two.
I loved The Bangles! ❤ Another girl band I loved back in the day was Exposè! One of my favorite songs by them is “Let me be the one” you should definitely check that out ❤
Robert Downey Jr. Movie Less then Zero. Had a song from the Bangles part of it's soundtrack called: Hazy shade of winter. That song to me is there best a very Rocking song!.
