Actually on them being rich, I think they’ve only recently started making money. On an interview they said that because they love the art side of performing they’ve been operating basically at a loss just to tour and have incredible visuals etc, they’ve pretty much lost money or broken even just because they love touring and putting on bombastic performances so much.
I’d like to say that AJR is three brothers. Adam, Jack, and Ryan. Jack is the main singer. Adam is mainly the base. Ryan is the backup singer, guitar. He is also the beat makerish. I heavily recommend listening to the rest of the album
AJR is one of THE most underrated artists out there today. I’ve seen them three times live and they put on one hell of a show!! Ryan has synesthesia and is an absolute genius. There is genuinely so much talent in this family. ❤❤
the interludes at the end somewhat represent their older albums main sound the trumpet being from OK ORCHESTRA, the modern piano being from The Click, and the violin and sampling from Neotheater
Loved this reaction!! I've been a huge fan of AJR for a long time, and something cool about this song is that it is actually an overture to the remaining songs on the album it belongs to! Each 'concept' pertains to one song😄
honestly too many people fail to give this album a chance because of AJR's earlier work being more immature-feeling, but this album is a damn good example of the maturation of AJR's style over time, starting from a childish sense of arrested development all the way to starkly grappling with responsibility and identity
I’d like to mention, these brothers aren’t that rich. They just recently moved out of their NYC apartment into a small townhouse, and they still don’t have a studio, they use their living room (aka their 2015 album title).
This song is actually so cool cuz it’s all about wanting to be different stuff and exploring who you are, and it serves as an introduction to and table of contents for the album that it’s a part of. That’s why it’s all over the place, and why it ends so differently than it begins. The ending that makes more sense is at the end of the last song, 2085. Fun fact, the album is called The Maybe Man, and this song Maybe Man is the first. The last song, 2085, which ends the first song and the album, when you break it apart to be 20, 8, and 5, spells “the.” This puts the beginning of the album at the end and the end at the beginning, showing how confusing and exploratory this album is
Great analyses. I really enjoyed your reaction. Some recommendations, this song has a companion song in "2085". They bookend the album. Also, they have a song that's directly about that external/ internal validation point you made, called "hole in the bottom of my brain" that I think you'd enjoy. Finally, "inertia" is a very musically interesting song from this album. Also my personal favorite.
I highly suggest listening to the rest of this album. Each track is so different instrumental wise and it’s honestly amazing how much work going into them.
I love this. Works as a natural-sounding, fun, curious song, then goes into the much heavily produced part, with great contrast. It's just very intersting. Thank you for sharing!
I absolutely adore AJR, and I sometimes look up reactions to them because I love watching other people discover their music. It's normally difficult to find them, but I saw your video and immediately started watching it. I've never heard of your channel before, but I really wish I had!! You picked up on things your first time listening that I hadn't noticed after months. You're such a thoughtful and genuine person, and everything you say adds to the experience of the music. Thank you for this amazing reaction.
As a die hard AJR fan I loved this break down. You did an awesome job with this video and won a new fan over. They are also the nicest guys. You can see in my shorts them meeting my 5 year old and giving him the best day of his life. (He is a bigger fan than me).
I'm not a devoted follower of AJR, but every time I come across their music, I've been impressed. Each song of theirs I heard has been about the difficulty of being a human being. And who can't relate to that?
AJR has been my all time favorite artists for so long and i loved this reaction. Most people dont give them much of a chance because of their weird beats and don’t give the new album a second to play. thank you for recognizing AJR’s talent!
This song is just.... it feels like a broadway song to me. It feels like it takes this orchestral approach and mixes it with some of the modern stuff learned through the thousands of years of music making. This whole album and so much of there music feels very unique to me. I love music and while I'm not professional in it.... God its so cool to see people talk about it from a different point of view. Being able to try and pick up what other professionals see and hear is just so fun and ajr's music is such an example of that as they hind so many little things that even (in my eyes) professionals wouldn't see. Amazing reaction and analysis gonna need to watch other of your videos cause god its cool to see everything I mentioned. One last thing is that this song and a lot of there music are very philosophical and from a psychology perspective and philosophy perspective it's just so fun to dig into. (to me at least)
This was fantastic ❤ I wanted to cry. And seeing how much you connected with it as well....Peter this is why I respect you. Down to earth. You are amazing. I'm glad 2023 connected me to you, and I'm looking forward to 2024. I needed you and The Bass Gang so much. Love this analysis. Music combined with this video and all the artistry it took to make it. Brilliant. ❤
@@PeterBarber I will do what I can to continue to support you. Even though I am making a big change in my life soon. I need to keep surrounding me with great people like you.
Absolute best of both worlds! I love AJR so much, and I've always been a fan of your voiceplay/ geoff reactions and analyses. Hope you have a happy new year bro
I’ve absolutely loved ajr’s music for years now, and I genuinely never thought you would react to them. You should really check out the rest of their new album, it’s amazing!
I highly recommend watching their "How we made" videos! They do breakdowns of the musical production behind their songs and how they came up with the unique sounds they use, and it's really cool to watch! They did it for two of their songs, "Weak" and "Bang", and they're both so cool to watch. I'd love to see your reactions to more of AJR too, they're one of my favourite bands and their music is just so good! I loved your reaction and analysis too!
I’ve been a huge fan of AJR for so long. I’m so glad you are listening to them! You should react to the whole album, at the least listen to it, it’s fantastic!
This is a powerful song. I get it and I get what you say about the comparison way of thinking. Sadly, most of what I experienced was long before the internet existed. (oh gosh I'm old) But thank you for being so candid.
When you realize this is a journey 🙌🏼 The song represents every song on the album. It starts with being insecure and trying to find meaning to finishing the album with acceptance. My favorite album ever
i seriously recommend listening to the rest of the album the song belongs to called "The Maybe Man." and if you want to explore more, i also recommend both of their previous albums, "OK ORCHESTRA" and "Neotheater." they also have another album before those two called "The Click"
I liked the lyrics. Vocals are good. Not something I would listen to on the regular. But am fascinated by the concept of this song. Thanks for bringing this one to us. Looking forward to the Whittaker interview!
Hey I'm new here and I'm so glad you got to talk to Eric Whitacre we actually did one of his songs I believe in choir I was in high school choir I graduated last year in 2023 and we did one of his songs I think it was like glow or something like that I don't know but we did do it for Winter concert it was so beautiful and it was so amazing to learn it was just a great song overall my dad still listens to our choir singing it like even if it's not Christmas
The interludes as others have pointed out, are actually samples like you noticed. They come from their previous songs which had a slightly different style to them than this album.
11:11 They’re for sure rich. I think the main point of this line was the end of the stanza “Nobody’d feel bad for me at all.” Also, it’s important to note Jack is playing a character called “The Maybe Man”
I really recommend you listen to the last song in this album called 2085. It’s quite a bit longer, but it’s an emotional, wild song which links into this one quite unexpectedly. It’s probably my favourite song to be honest.
11:10 Kinda Interesting: They spent about 12 years making next to nothing because they invested so much back into the band Also, “or a Bottle of Jack” is funny because the lead singer is named Jack
Love your reaction and analysis! ONE OK ROCK, Japanese band, has a phenomenal vocalist, Taka, he covered *HELLO and Easy On Me - Adelle, he can sing it in original key* check them out!! I guarantee you'll be surprised by his unique voice!! Also check their original *Take What You Want - LIVE Tokyo Dome 2018!* their LIVE performances are always top tier. I'd really appreciate it! Thank you, and you'll thank me later
ajr is three brothers not one guy plus some of the backing vocals could be the other member who produces the music called ryan the lead singer is jack and the bassist is adam
Hi peter. I'm 16 and I have C2 all times and can get down to A1 at a good day. Is there any chance that I become a Basso profundo like Glenn Miller in the future
Only until recently, they made their music out of their living room. They only recently could afford to build a studio. (Partially because their business manager over several years stole A LOT of money from them but that’s a whole other story). So no, they are not that rich.
His name is Jack and he is the main vocalist, although AJR is a band made of three brothers. The other two brothers are Adam and Ryan. It's why they are called AJR, Having the initial letter of each of their name.
Jack: lead vocalist, plays a few instruments Ryan: the second-oldest brother, is the main and only producer, sings in a few tracks Adam: bassist, did vocals on "living room" The three brothers :D
I hope it's OK make a request for something to analyse: The band Epica is one of these European metal bands that incorporate some classical elements. In particular, I’d really like to hear an opera singer’s views on their song “Tides of Time”. Studio version preferably: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MFPn1lFDlyE.html But if you'd like to do a two-for-one you could also check out this live version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ktuuGE_J50g.html
I'm finally back (guess who's here ;) you have two likes from me as a bonus). I still have to go back to videos I missed. As an animator I thought about animation of this MV... Firstly it reminded me of AI generated MVs of Beth Roars (I recommend checking them out, especially "Anxiety Society"), but this one is different after all. I specialize in traditional frame by frame animation so it's still quite outside of my expertise, but it looks for me like a mix of few techniques. There are some flat digitally painted background parts, but most are obviously 3D. And of course the main character is 3D too, with an animated paint texture placed on it, but not as a standard 3D texture, it's somehow placed as a kind of additional layer (but it's just my guess). Hard to say how much of it was done manually and how much automatized (it's amazing what AI can do these days). Still I agree it's a very interesting and creative animation.
