Very nice! Those old sets are so cool. You are correct, if the new starter sets came with enough equipment to give the kids more stuff to do, that would increase the interest in the hobby. I run post-war and MPC, almost exclusively. I have one or two LTI pieces and an MTH Rail King Ps-4 Pacific, to head my AMT Southern Crescent. I still have my brother's original trains, from the 40's and early-mid 50's and they still run just fine. PennCentral 8505 recently did an unboxing and running of a top-of-the-line MPC set from the mid-70's. It's a great video and, like yours, shows what Lionel used to do to appeal to the young kids and get them interested in model trains. An excellent video, as always.
Loved this video. I re-started in trains in 1985. I started with MPC era items as they were colorful and affordable. I still love them. I sold most of it ( did not lose any value ! ) I have gone to the "dark side" = more or less scale. Have some MPC item s and I still love them ! PS love your Chevelle, I cant own a car like that as I would end up in jail and loosing my license ! Thank you Sir ! The thing I remember about these type of engines is they required very frequent lubrication at the top of the armature.
@leoberiding Ha! I've been driving that Chevelle for 30 years and never got a ticket. I am mostly scale, just managed to keep my original stuff. Love it more now than ever. Takes me right back to Christmas 1981. A feeling I will never forget!
Wow!!! You have some beautiful MPC sets Matt! I have 4 set myself, but I need those exact power switches with the lights. Is there any chance you can find a catalog number for them. I definitely need to buy maybe 6. Plans for the future. 😉 This was a great video showing off just how nice the MPC sets actually were. Thank you for the shout out it is always much appreciated MATT. The Lionel set. Age 6 eh? I was 2 and a half. Started with two AHM HO trainsets. BEST GIFT my Dad ever gave me. N-Scale at the age of 4. By age 5 i was putting together Athearn and Roundhouse HO kits by myself. Doing my own repairs by the age of 7. Flextrack was my nemesis. Didn't get the hang of that till the age of 10. Hobby got way too expensive. I now do computer train simulators and still have just as much fun.
Very cool, I just posted my first set from Christmas 1981 as well a couple weeks ago. We're lucky to still have them. Alot of people end up losing their old trains. I was only 3 years old when Santa brought me The maple leaf limited (Lionel MPC) I suppose it helped that my Dad and Grandfather both collected Lionel as well. Thanks for showing us.😃

As far as future generations the kids today don’t ask for trains. They want electronic gismos. The only people buying trains is old guys with money. The vintage stuff is more affordable, new stuff not so much.
That’s an old one!!! My first set isn’t that old because my dad was into HO when I was younger, and I didn’t get my first Lionel until high school, but I still have it. Looks like we are the same age. Beautiful set man!
The ‘57 Corvette is something that everybody wants, given choice trains or Corvette, the corvette wins every time. The Super Sport looks nice too. Choice of scale or vintage post war Lionel in my option no contest post war always. Scale is for rich guys with huge layouts, rather have that ‘57 Corvette.😊 nice presentation.
@genemanno1533 Thank you 😊. The vette is owned by a friend of mine. He paid $150 for it in 1971. Third time, I have rebuilt it. The SS was purchased in 1995 for 6k. These cars are now for the rich as everyone asks way too much money for this stuff now!
@@UncleSalty-nz5ukRegardless of the monetary value they are nice cars. Having way less invested vs the current value is a big plus. Quite a number of guys on line with dual interests classic cars and Lionel trains.😊😊
My first train set I had was back in the fifties and I had that set for many years and I got married and divorced and my ex wife throughout all my trains track and cars without letting me know what she did and boy I was pissed. You need to do a video of the 57 corvette. Don’t past that by.

@@ELWtrains The other rides I own are '67 chevy truck and ' 70 gmc. Off site right now due to the vette resto. Always been a gm dude for the most part.
