🚐✨ Join me as I spill the beans on my first van trip - a rollercoaster of highs and heart-stopping moments! Picture this: navigating a 15% incline with hairpin bends, rain turning the road into a river, gale force winds, and a car hurtling towards me on a hairpin bend! 🌧️💨
I share the thrills and challenges of handling my newly converted motorhome in intense weather conditions. It was a true test of my van's capabilities, and I'll walk you through the pulse-pounding moments that defined the journey.
And as I settled into van life during the trip, I realised some alterations are needed. In the video, I discuss the changes and additions I plan to make to my van, making it an even better home on wheels. 🛠️ Stay tuned for the upcoming modifications that will enhance the van life experience!

My favourite piece of advice (that I saw on Goodreads, of all places!) is “The difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude.” And I pull on this quote ALL the time cause I’m such a negative Nelly! That mindset is magic ✨

Check out “Ben and Emily” on a narrowboat. They have a cat they let out unleashed and she always returns, even when they move. Keep the cat in the van as much as poss before you travel so it understands it’s “home”. There are quite a number of boaters/van lifers who do the same so don’t overthink your cat. Loved this episode.🥰

It's all a learning curve, the more you do it the easier it will get. As you are already finding out. We were all scared when we began, even big burley men get scared by strange noises, but that soon stops. It's a wonderful way of life. Enjoy it.xx

Hello Becca, thank you for the lovely video once more. I relate very much to your first thoughts when driving a van in "unusual" conditions, I have been through a similar learning curve (and still working on it in my own blog). I have found it useful to practice those stressful mountain slopes or narrow streets on Sundays, when there is less traffic. I have also had "technical van driving lessons" from the experienced and calm drivers who I trust. I come from Finland but I'm currently learning my "vanlife" near Alps, thus the crowded Autobahn junctions and crazy steep village roads make me cry once in a while. So, you are definitely not alone 😄 The best part is when you start gaining healthy self-confidence & skills, managing those tricky situations effortlessly. I wish all the best for your journeys! 🌼

@@myvanworld Definitely, we learn from every twist and turn 💖 My blog's name is Badasana Experiences, and the post "International traffic with a van: Close calls" contains my horror stories of a scary navigating failure, collision to van's bumper on a parking lot and worrying about tyre punctures during my first weeks. I kept on driving and practicing, eventually it got easier (also the sleeping well during nights). If you ever happen to find your way to Finland, feel free to drop me a message! 🌍🌻

Although I’ve not yet ‘wild camped’ I did, a few weeks back, take my children to Devon without my husband for the first time, which was scary! I’ve been with him since I was 16 so to go it alone, in the van for the first time, with the kids (even in a campsite), had me nervous, so I can only imagine what you were experiencing! 😅

can be unsettling when your in unfamiliar territory but by doing it as you did you move on to your next challenge, also sometimes having old fashioned maps gives you a good idea of the terrain you are going to although google maps street view can help a bit ,and everyone who has ever built a van knows there will always be something that can be improved upon as you go forward but thats part of the fun

I've been staying in our beach hut this week, it is about 2°C at night and I've been toasty in my cheap Decathlon sleeping bag with a hot water bottle. I've slept better than I do at home under a thick duvet in the centrally heated bedroom (although not having someone snoring next to me might have helped). Have you weighed the van yet. If you're close to the max weight you will struggle with hills.

I did a camping trip in Scotland in November in 22. A good sleeping bag can save you! It was definitely the weather, I’ve smashed two x 25% inclines with ease since. Gail force winds are something else.

this is so funny - as you drive the van more and more you will get used to it and realise it's not much different to a large car. We were in the Black Forest in Germany late last year and some of the roads up and down the mountains are definitely harder work but we were in a 9m (30ft) motorhome that weighs 5 tonnes! In terms of learning things - it's worth doing smaller "shakedown" trips where you figure this stuff out. Good luck!

As an ex truck driver in the UK i can tell you that you'll get settled fairly quickly. I've slept in laybys, down random streets and industrial estates all over the place. Common sense aside you'll very soon be more concerned about whether the van fits in the gap or do you have a view/internet. If safety is an issue still then sleep with a kitchen knife 😅You'll be fine 😊

Ah Good for you Becca! As regards Van life/travelling safety, If I was you I'd definitely have something to defend myself & van with, I carry a Kubotan keyring (Perfectly UK legal) as you never know when you might need it (Hopefully never!🙏X) I'm 6'3 large build & can handle myself but just in the last 15 yrs I've been the victim of a Vanjacking at 2am in Birmingham (Left in middle of road), On a quiet Monday evening here in leafy Surrey I walked to my local garage 100yds away & found myself in the middle of an armed robbery!🤯 Had house attacked more than once by gang of youths (mistaken identity, drugs/neighbours!), Loads more but I'm beginning to waffle (Changing my middle name to 'Lucky'😂) Point I'm making is you never know when stuff like this is going to happen😢 Forewarned is Forearmed🙏♥️Jim X

want alaugh, Becca? I made arrangements to meet up with a chum and fellow youtuber Roamin Rob in his van and us both stay in our vans in the back of beyond at a fishery lake place. About 7 he hadnt appeared and the bloke at the fisheries said he was going to have to lock the gates in two hours. My mate messaged saying his amazon deliv ery job was running over. I said I was nervous on my own but he said just watch some youtube......and thats when the Art Bell podcast came........ on about alien abductions👾👾👾 and outside the van was going spooky and misty with that horror movie mist that is just about 5 inces deep.... Then there was a bang on the door and I pooped myself. It was the fisheries warden telling me he was about tolock the gate so I thought....fluff this for a bag of spanners and decided to leave. never been so scared in my life. Not been away in Viv on my own since. driving away on a narrow unlit road was proper scary.... Glad your trip didnt put you off. After all that work in your wonderful van, it needs to be used.... better luck next trip- for both of us lol. Much respect- 🙏- Kenny

Always wondered; Is it that car drivers are thick or just selfish, or both. Definitely selfish, some both. I may suggest not attempting the "Hard knott pass" over Eskdale heading towards Morecombe bay. Did it in a "banger" in the 70's. Do'nt know which was gonna blow first, me or the engine. Got to the top, stopped, opened the bonnet to let the heat out for a good half hour. Fond memories, all the same. Got drunk that night. And yes, hell is "other people". Mr JP Satre, i think.
