Love this thing, it's so versatile. Sounds great with a RAT and analog delay. That's a 3-pedal rig I could live with for most things. Got my MIJ black label for $80 :)

i bought a vintage BF-2 when I was in Japan a little over a year ago and love it! Also my first vintage pedal, my first Boss pedal, and it really sparked my curiosity for Boss as well! Great video man!

You can date it via the serial number inside the footswitch. I have a full set of late 70s-early 80s which I bought in the early 80s. They're great.

I'm still in doubt. I recently got a MIJ BF-2, (the third time after quite some years)... I bought the BF-2 to add to my collection of vintage Bosses.. but probably still prefer my Ibanez FL9, it's more subtle, more versatile. Back in the day ('80s) the FL9 was the first flanger I came across, loved it instantly, kinda tone print set in my mind forever. New Wave '80's vibe all over the place. I have nothing with "jet style" flange sounds, like ADA, MXR etc.. I'm more leaning towards EHX DEM and FL9 style... Yes, they can do some wicked sounds too, but there is more to them.

Definitely is a pink and gold label as well. Although I think those are made in Taiwan. I actually prefer the ones made in Taiwan since they take the 9v adapters. They really aren't different enough for me to want to mess with a 12v adapter.

1984 "Vintage", my 1994 Engl Savage 60 is pretty vintage aswell. And don't get me started about my Vox MV50 Clean, it's dipswitches feel much older than they actually should. Enough dumb talking, your Flanger sounds great!

Since this is MIJ version can it still run properly using a 9V battery?

Yep runs fine on a 9v battery but when using a power supply you need to use 12v as a 9v input doesn’t give it enough. Confusing I know...

@@JacksonBrooksby Are you sure about that? I've got the same green labeled pedal with original box & instruction sheet. It says 9V AC Adaptor, not 12V. Saw a video with black labeled (which is even older I guess, who said 12 V is needed. Don't know if there is the differences. And maybe the green can handle 12V, but actually Boss didn't recommend it on mine - so it might be risky to break it.

As far as I know... Any early 80s boss pedal that says AC Adapter on the back should be powered by 12v DC. I'd be very happy for someone to clarify this/correct me if they're completely sure or spoken to boss. I will say this pedal sounds best at 12v... Doesn't sound any where near as good at 9v. Correct me if I'm wrong though :)

Using a higher voltage power supply (12v) usually allows for increased input headroom, so the pedal will be better able to handle stronger signals without breaking up. Don't just try this with any pedal though or you may fry something inside.
