Peter, I have had one putter in my bag for more than two years, and it is an Evnroll ER2 (original version with chrome finish). The only thing that I have changed about this putter over those 2+ years is to install a Gravity Grip earlier this year. I have experimented with an Evnroll ER7 mallet (still own that one), and an Odyssey Toulon Memphis mallet putter (sold that one), but the ER2 just works for me, and I have experienced some of my best putting in more than 35 years of playing golf since I began using this putter.
Right now I have a Tommy Armour Impact 3 that I got for free trading in clubs. My DREAM putter is the Evnroll Er5 hatchback all blacked out like yours. I just won’t be able to afford it. On a side note, I really like your channel. I think your videos are more natural and real. Your instruction, as well as a couple others’ videos (mainly your instruction though) have been instrumental in helping me with my confidence and enjoying the time I have at a golf course. You have helped keep me sane as I have been quarantined here in Virginia for over a month because of COVID-19 going through the family. We are all right now, but it was great to watch you build your bag. Thank you Peter.
In 37 years I have had 20+ sets of clubs and 3 Putters. Palmer Blade, Ping Anser and now Odyssey 2Ball. Been eyeing that Evenroll when the Odyssey's not looking.
At the risk of accusing you of being predictable Mr Finch..... that was very predictable 🤣😂. As soon as you listed the putters I knew what the winner would be. Don't get me wrong, a highly entertaining video as always, great watching your process of your logical brain narrowing things down to what your heart had already decided.
I have the Newport and love it. The thing I love the most is the feedback you receive after hitting putt if it’s pushed, pulled, heel, toe or perfect you’ll know right away. It’s like typing on a keyboard you know instantly when you’ve hit the wrong button. Great choice Pete
I've been gaming a Rife two bar hybrid for over ten years and this year I had the audacity to try some thing different. Needless to say the Rife is back in it's place and will never leave!!
I have the Newport 2 and absolutely cannot see putting with anything else. Especially the new special select series. Great choice Pete! You’ll have a smile on your face every time you pull the head cover off!
Looking at the Evnroll Putters, Scotty Cameron and even thought of tinkering with a Spider X. Currently playing the black Rife Aussie IBF Tour Putter for a few years and I'm not disappointed, I'm not 100% in love with it.
After 15 years with the same putter, I recently went through the same process. Had the same two finalists, but chose the Evnroll over the Scotty Cameron because of the putter face technology. Agree the Scotty is more handsome/prestigious, but I made more puts with the Evnroll.
PF: “I don’t want to say that Evnroll took the design and just re-did it” Er... Pete mate, both the Newport and the ER1.2 are Ping Anser copies. You can’t really accuse Evnroll of copying a copy But good luck with your Scotty. May it hole many puts for you this year 👍🏼
Been using an Odyssey Tour Black #9 for about 7 years and added a SS Flatso grip in the last two years which seemed to help. Looking to upgrade this year and have really been intrigued by the EvnRoll putters especially based on the tech in the face. Loved this video and would be a dream scenario to be able to run that extensive of a test between all those putters.
I have the Er5 not murdered out and I think it is the best putter I have ever had. For me, and I say for me maybe not for everyone, this is the greatest feeling weight wise and the easiest to line up. The stroke is easier to make by the way it is so balanced. I am 6 foot 1 and have it in the 35 inch length. The standard grip works perfect for my size hands which is a medium large cadet. The two dots and two alignment lines to line up a 90 degree angle to your target line and to assist in breaking putts is genius. I bet a lot of people don’t know how to use these, but they work and create confidence. The groove design also works to make virtually all putts go the same length and on line. Spectacular putter; simple as that. I hope you are happy with your choice too.
G’day Peter, I have been using a Studio Select Newport 1.5 for several years. Pretty much standard at 35/4/71. All I have done (and some may consider it uncouth) is replace the grip with a Super Stroke slim 3.0. Have tried many variations of Newport but the 1.5 is for me.. and is my “forever” putter. Mind you the new Mizuno Mcraft 1 and 2 are quite desirable to look at.... especially in the blue.
Great choice Pete couldn’t agree more about the blade length perceptive difference between the Newport and Newport 2...I picked up the Newport at the end of February and I couldn’t be happier. It has the classic Anser shape which I love and isn’t soft like the previous version newport or current day ping putters that can feel dead on bad days. Good luck to us both (everyone actually) in 2020!
I narrowed it down after testing to Newport, mizuno m craft and Evnroll er 1v4. Tried the 2 but was making more with 1v4. Ended up buying the Evnroll, just felt better and had better distance control for me. All are great though
I have a scotty phantom 8.5. The .5 means its toe heavy. Really helps me when my miss is a twitchy, toe left pull. Also Pete I feel your pain. I have had 5 putters in the last 2 years. The scotty phantom 8.5 is a revolution for me being a toe heavy mallet.
l still use my Ray Cook putter from the 80's, an original Blue Goose that was designed by Scotty Cameron. It has never let me down and I haven't even changed the grip in all those years! My friend who has an Odyssey O-Works putter still prefers mine, I guess it shows how smart I used to be.
Just bought mine.. currently out for delivery... Scotty Cameron Studio Select 2.6, Black Mist, 34". Playing a Pete Dye course tomorrow. Yuuuuuge greens, and I just regapped my wedges.. will probably putt... A lot. COME ON UPS!
Thanks Peter!! Perfect timing. I have been practicing my putting at home using the Visio putting aid you recommended. As soon as my golf store Roger Dunn opens up I am heading over there to get fitted for my very first club ever...my putter. I'm looking mainly at Evnroll and Scotty Cameron. I'm also taking a peek at Mizuno's new putter line and the Taylor Made SpiderX.
Got a couple of Scotties, one is a Newport I’ve had for over 20 years and would never dream of parting with it. I was cringing when you were holding them against each other (please treat them with the respect they deserve - they will mark) good choice by the way and great video....enjoy.
Hi Pete, looks over results!!!! I use Cleveland classic Collection #1. Tried a number of others but this has got me to +0.67 strokes gained against scratch and I play off 10!!!
At the end of the day, there are so many different putter designs and shapes over the years. But you can never beat a classic. I’ve tried all sorts, and after trying about 10 different ones over the years, it was my great grandfathers PING-Karslen-Pal2i that he had for years, that when I got my hands on it, it just felt right. The scotty’s was a very very close second. Good luck Pete and let us know when you’re coming down to Berkshire next. Get a round sorted 🤙
If you’re not using the black Evnroll ER2 feel free to send it up to me in Scotland. It’s too beautiful a putter to be sitting in that room unused! Nice video, good choice with the Newport! Thanks for keeping the content coming! It’s very welcome.
Really enjoyed this video. Mainly because I've bounced around putters so much. And I understand the importance of it appealing to your eye. I play an odyssey white hot 7 that I bought from the pro shop after just simply lifting it up and while talking, something just clicked. It's not the fanciest or most expensive putter in the world. But looking down over putts it gives me such confidence. I think if I was to change it it would only be for a taylormade spider mini... again purely on how they look.
Good info bud. Of all the putters I have tested, I have found that the blade style of putters has felt the most comfortable in my putting stroke. Thus, I would lean far more toward such putters. As to which putter I wish I could have...well that is easy: Artisan 0217-MIDSLANT-SS. Lastly, the new look, hence, no beard, makes you look younger. Best wishes to you and everyone else.
I have the distribution in South America of Evnroll Putters and they are awesome. Great filling and wonderful touch. I like this video so much. All the best Peter
I was between the Evnroll and Scotty and Scotty came on top. The putters I have been most satisfied and consistent in the past was with Scotty. That was big decision when choosing my current putter. Went with the Phantom X 7.5. I like the .5 neck and the alignments and MOI really appealed to me. I see myself sticking to it now for a long time and probably will pass it on to my son than selling it in the future.
Fantastic video, I know it's not even in the same ball park but I've just upgraded to Odyssey O works 7. I've gone an inch shorter than what I normally use to get over the ball easier.
Just bought a odyssey stoke lab double wide 34" it's very nice and feels good 2,I'm also keeping my last putter which is a scotty cameron futura X5 which is now packed away in my attic 👍⛳🏌️♂️
Odyssey EXO Rossie Slant Neck for me all day long. I saw Coach using it on Golfholics and tried it, after playing with a blade putter for the last 45 years. And I think Marko is still using the EXO #7 as well. I'll never look back! I absolutely love the feel and look of this putter.
The most expensive club I have ever purchased And the first club I was ever Fitted for, is my Scotty Cameron GOLO 6. It is also the only club in my bag that I have no intentions of ever changing. I just can't see a different putter making enough of a difference for me. Plus, I just love this thing!
Pete good to see you are well, hope the family is good too. I have both Scotty and Evnroll, the new Evnroll black with gravity grip is just the best putter out there. I put it in the bag on the day of release and it hasn't come out and i doubt it ever will.
Thanks for the excellent review. I have always had a blade putter in my bag - first the Ping Anser and then the Nike Method Core. Recently have been considering both the SC Newport 2.5 and the Newport, but leaning strongly toward the Newport.
Noticed you eliminated the Phantom before even giving it a try. Thought I'd share my Phantom story as it could change your mind. I've been playing a Newport 2.5 for as long as I can remember, and I used to hate the idea of big boxy putters with a passion. One day my home club got the Phantom range in, and on a bit of a whim I decided to take the Phantom X12 out for a test drive. It was the opposite of everything I usually like in a putter. Face-balanced, a massive head, and strange wings coming off the back. It's hard to put into words, but something about that putter just spoke to me. After getting used to it and putting unremarkably on the front nine, I stood over a 55 foot double-breaking birdie putt on the 10th hole, which I stepped up and holed. I proceeded to one-putt the next 8 holes, including one from off the green, for a total of 8 putts on the back nine. Something about the massive head and flashy green lines just made it so easy to line the ball up that all I had to focus on was getting the right speed. Needless to say, it's been in my bag ever since. TL;DR, don't judge a book by its cover, the Phantom X range (including the ugly X12) are well worthy of a try on course.
Love the videos Pete, you were awesome on TXG pod cast , hopefully there is more collaboration between you guys. Thanks again for the content and all the best
I was a Ping putter guy for many years (Anser and B60 types). After a long golf hiatus I've gone back to my original favorite putter type, the face-balanced mallet. So far, nothing beats my Nike Method Core Drone, but I'd give a Ping Tomcat 14 a try.
I have the 2.5 which I think is great, but have just picked up an ER2 which feels fantastic on the indoor mat..... cant wait to get out and compare them
I switched to Evnroll about 2 years ago. Made a huge difference in my game. My distance control has never been better. It took my about 2 months or so of consistent playing to figure distance out. It definitely rolls shorter then other putters, just because of the face technology. Since then, 3 of my buddies and my dad have switched to Evnroll haha.
@@markgomez7381 I’ve used several. I got the ER1TS as a training aid and have like it so much it became my gamer. Before that I used the ER5b. I’m a big fan of the long slant hosel now.
love the del mar, totally different than what I've used in the past. would never have considered this purely by looks. picked it up and never put it down.
I had the X12 last season the it was really a stable putter, and I hit a lot of putts. This quarantine made me crazy over the last month and I debated on new Scotty or spider x. Just pulled the trigger on the Special Select squareback 2. I just like the mid mallet size of the putter, and can’t wait to actually play with it.
I have been inspired by your indoor putting studio and created my own and it had made me focus a lot more on my putting, I am currently rocking the Odyssey Double Wide Flow Neck Stroke Lab edition 👍🏻
You need to get the new Ping Heppler Anser putter. I hear the feel on those are pretty amazing; and it's the original blade style putter with that plumber's neck you so love. All other's are just copies. Good luck Pete! Stay safe.
The murdered out look is really, really nice. The evnrolls look like whatever coating is on them softens the sharpness of the milling. I'm curious what's on there. You had mentioned the blacked out look a couple times, you could always get fit for the Newport, and have Scotty's Custom Shop build you one however you like. I'm +1 for all black. Everything.
Great breakdown of what you like and wow are we jealous. Who gets to try all these putters like this? Clubs? Absolutely living my golf dream. Currently using a SeeMore. Center shaft blade type. Love the look and I putt well with it.
This was great. Like watching a golf nerds episode of the bachelor. I was pulling so hard for the Newport. Such a big decision for us too, we gotta look at the thing all year in videos! 😂
Ahhh, going with a classic. Makes sense, but I'll be interested to see how it works out once you're on the course. I'm currently using an Argolf Pendragon putter with an Accra Driver shaft... playing length is 38" and I use a split grip with the right hand claw.
Whatever makes it into your bag, I would definitely go and get fit! It would be interesting for you to continue your test using a SAM putt lab to see the differences in data between the putters!
Getting fit made the biggest difference for me. I have 3 of the same putter at the same specs. The fitting told me the style, balance, shape was correct for me. I have 3 different color heads, slightly different grips and face inserts. Then I can “switch it up” without actually switching up much.
Got my dream putter in August 2019. Scotty Newport 2.5. Great watching you load the bag. Hopefully we will get to see what they do out on the course soon.
Great video Pete! I've just got back from a fitting and bought a Newport 2 - 'tis a thing of beauty! It might not enhance my game but at least I'll look good when I'm missing putts!
I have several older Scotty putters that are solid, but my favorite is the Del Mar. The heel shaft suits my eye and I feel like it works best for my swing. BTW, if you want to get rid of your Del Mar, I’ll pay the shipping to get it to me. I would love to try the Evnroll putters, too. Thanks for another interesting video, Pete!
I'd go with the evenroll. I like the looks more and it has added forgiveness. Unfortunately I put better with face ballanced and easy to line up. I've been using an odyssey o works 2mCS since the PGA show in 17. It's a can't miss from 5 feet for me. I did recently pick up the phantom 6str to tryout. My only gripe about o'works is that it picks the ball up so quickly that it's tough to slow down when the stimp gets above 12.2.
Currently have 3 putters depending on how I've been feeling if I have the tips every so often I put my odyssey Oworks Tank no.7 in the bag as it gives confidence, the odyssey white hot pro2 no.7 when confidence is high and I have an old ping pal4 for around the house for practice as its weight is in between the odysseys
I wonder if putting on a lined track mat like that skews the results. It helps you aim. On the putting green with out the track lines, the putter heads shape could affect lining up perception. A real world test on a putting green without lines seems to be a better test of finding a putter head shape that works with your lining up perceptions. Just a thought. Keep up the great vids. 👍
Great vid. Fantastic looking putters. I am myself not a big fan of silver coloured putters so of the putters in this video I would probably choose Evnroll ER2 or ER5. I am currently playing with a black TM Spider Tour.
I don’t know why but I like my Scotty Futura from late autumn when the greens are slower but love my Newport 2 when the greens are quicker, either way Scotty’s are pure class ⛳️
I think the Scotty Cameron Red X and Red X 2 mallet putters are THE MOST underrated putters ever created by Scotty. The 3 red dot alignment on the heal and the face is incredibly soft , feels like perfection with a Pro V1 or Bridgestone B XS or ZStar and TP5 , and they are like 20 years old now
Hello Peter, hipe you qnd yours are all well. Im a massive Evnroll fan. Just the consistency of roll from them is unsurpassed. Ive had a couple of Scotty C's and they just dont come close to the performance of a Evnroll. Really enjoyed this series, its been quality content. Thank you
