Here's the final restoration and Lexus giveaway video! • I Fully Restored An Ab...
In my last video, I was given a free Lexus! The previous owner couldn't sell the car because it wouldn't start and I was able to get it to go with just a paper clip. The car had everyone dash light and about a dozen electrical gremlins so we got to work diagnosing them all. I find a few smoking guns and fix the car on the cheap so sit back and enjoy the show.

Very well done indeed. Love watching you work on everyday cars, bringing them back to life. Seeing that nonsense with the fusible links, all I can think is YIKES! I have had a bunch of Ford's from the 70s and 80s. Knowing their propensity for blowing fusible links and the fires that can result, I eliminated all of them at the relay, and installed an appropriate fuse panel that not only took care of the FLs but left open fuses for upgrades like stereos and fog lamps. Now I have a 90 Volvo 240 wagon, so dealing with Bosch is a different nightmare.

I owned a Lexus IS200 from new for 15 years, never went wrong apart from a radiator replacement, and I eventually gave it away to a friend in need, replacing it with a low mileage 2005 IS250 in the same colour as in this video. I've had this for exactly 6 years now, and it's also been extremely reliable, comfortable and still looks great cosmetically. The only issue I had was with the rear brake calipers, which needed to be replaced, I gather something of an issue with this model. What's extraordinary about the car is that it drives like a new car, with pretty much all of the bells and whistles (although no Bluetooth was fitted originally, I've just added a Bluetooth adaptor to the Aux in socket in the centre armrest). By way of contrast, I owned an 2006 MB B200, which was a very functional family car, but all the doors developed rust in the seams resulting in MB buying it back off me in order to scrap it at just 8 years old. I replaced the with a nearly new W204 C220, which has now done 110K miles, and has been largely reliable - but was surprised at recent MOT to find that the brake pipes needed to be replaced due to rust after just 8 years. The garage noted this is not uncommon, neither is it uncommon to find the rear subframe rusts through and needs replacement at considerable cost - mine is apparently OK at the moment. So, Camp Walosi, if you want my take on the relative quality of Japanese versus German cars, I think the above speaks for itself...

The stop lamp switch went out in my mom's Grand Marquis, which not only stopped you from shifting it out of park while the car was running, but also somehow burned out every brake light bulb. Worked like a charm once I replaced the switch and all the bulbs. It's crazy how much havoc one little part can cause. Really like the balance of the channel of you working in some affordable every-man cars along with the expensive Euro stuff. Keep up the good work.

Alex, please keep making videos like this. Down to earth car repair on an everyday man’s car. It’s humble, relatable, and yet entertaining. So sick of the other you tubers just playing with Lamborghini’s or Ferraris in all their videos that they forgot where they all came from.

Excellent job! So happy with this video and you getting this gorgeous car running again! This is what I’m looking for or an Avalon or a Solara however I really want stick shift again. I haven’t had one since 1975! I miss it every day! Thank you for your wonderful effort and well done video and mechanics. The only thing I would say is I definitely would check the fuel first before I started doing any of this work. I think it’s majorly important that the first order of business is clearing out the fuel system. Hi married to a jackleg mechanic (what he calls himself). He’s seen too many engines ruined with bad fuel and or old oil.

The exhaust next to that O2 sensor is missing the heat shield. I wonder if that is a sign that maybe something has been done there before.

@@issasultan2896 I think speaker problems is not that uncommon issue on an is250 (I own one myself, but thankfully no problems with them). Just google your problem, I am sure you will get an answer quick on lexusforum

What on earth is there not to like about this or any other video this Guy makes. Alex is one great mechanic and explains everything he does in a clear and understandable way - keep up the good, no EXCELLENT work - you deserve all the success you get - three cheers from dedicated 'Mercaholic' here in the UK.

Check VSC is basically the same thing as a check engine light. Also as far as the random blue light you found in the door sill, that should go to an illuminated door sill if the car was optioned with it, that would also explain the new looking panel as that does not look like it was original with the car. My 2012 has the illuminated sills and the panels are completely different(mine are grey/silver, not black), but the color of the light looks to match the one of the LED you pulled out.
