Nope, the point is to get everybody out of fortress Europe. So she needs to convince the bureaucracy she has a real interest in here. I mean it's ludicrous, she actually has to explain why she is moving. It is so degrading. It's none of anybody's business why is she doing whatever she wants to do...OMG I'm done explaining it here. Where is our freedom??

When my husband applied to get the French nationality (I'm French myself) he had to wait 1 year after our wedding and when the file was ready, he had an interview at the police station and another one at the "prefecture de Nanterre". The lady there was so happy that he could speak perfect French that instead of 10 minutes they talked more than half an hour together. It happened in 2004 and rules have changed since then. Moreover during a year + 1day we didn't hear from the administration at all. And he received his birth certificate and became French!

That is insane. You are so committed! I just received my Dutch citizenship through naturalisation, and while I paid more (850 euros, I think), because of the seriously impressive efficiency of the Dutch government, I think I only had to show proof of integration (passing an integration exam or language test - I did the language test) and show my (UK) passport, birth certificate and marriage certificate (although since I had already submitted the last two to the municipality, they were already registered so I didn't actually need to show them again). I made an appointment at city hall, showed the documents and paid (right there, by card) and then waited for the 'Royal Decree' decision (which comes after the Dutch government does their own security check) and then a ceremony in my city in which I had to swear to uphold the Dutch laws etc. The ceremony makes the decree official. The government keeps all the information current, so I didn't need to prove I've lived here for years because they can see that as soon as they type in my social security number. Same with getting a driver's licence and passport - the information (when you pass your driving test, and your citizenship) is all right there so you just make an appointment, go in with your photo and pay and collect your document a week later. And here I'm still thinking I want to move to France! I must be crazy! You are so hardcore. I'm sure your application will be successful. :)

This is the year I was planning on applying, but I have to admit that getting all the paperwork from my home country and then having it translated seems a bit daunting (and expensive)!

Good advice! Seeing you go through the process has definitely made it seem doable. Thanks for walking us all through your application. My first four visas were expensive but I'm now on a 10-year one, so the cost is a little more spread out. My main concern is finding the paperwork from my parents. They were immigrants themselves to Canada and I have no idea where their birth certificates might be!

so glad you did this video, looking forward to going through that process in like 5 years, haha, not. Almost finished with the process of getting married, and France has made it so stressful and complicated, haha, but they want to make sure that even though our marriage will be recognized in France, it has to be completely under French law instead of Korean or US law. I'm from the US, my partner is from France, and we're getting married in Korea, that's quite a bit of paperwork and money on birth certificates and apostilles and translations and shipping documents and translators, and notaires in France. This is all just for the French government, Korean and US governments don't make this process complicated. But this is the way we need to do it, neither of us have lived in US or France for like 4 years (he's never lived in the US, and I've never lived in France either), we're legal residents of Korea, so Korea it is.

Hi, you mentioned that you did a Master in France, but it was in English. Did it specify that the program was taught in English on your master’s certificate? Was your program’s name in English or French? I’ll trying the 2-year French higher education route, but my master’s is also in English, so that’s why I wanna know. Thanks.

Rosie could you please answer this: Why did you have to wait 5 years before applying for French citizenship even though you could have applied after 2 years since you did your master's degree there?

I lived in so many places for about the same period and I'd feel so odd about claiming I became this or that so quickly.

Honestly, after a decade I still don't feel the need. I was born elsewhere and I won't be French no matter how many papers they'd give me. The only thing I would expect is the right to vote where I live and work , without the necessity to be French officially. Maybe later.

Hi. I'm just creating my dossier for naturalisation. In yours did you put original birth certificates for your parents or copies? Thanks biz
@moefag

generally with french administration you only give copies, not the original documents, so they can keep them. Good luck with your naturalization!

So in this case, would you have dual citizenship for both France and New Zealand? Or would you have to renounce your New Zealand citizenship. I actually don't know anything about this, so interesting!

In the middle ages, you would not be treated like this. At the dawn at the 19th century, the migration restrictions were considered to be so out-dated, because they quite visibly limit the economic yields of migration in favor for the locals. And that was never refuted! We just forget about the unforgettable technical and cultural advancements we made while having this freedom-based system. So now, why do we put restrictions on migration again...?? This is so lame, but putting restrictions is so 1850s....but I admire you. You made so much effort to get what you want.

Endless forms and lost forms and resubmitting forms are very common. Having efficiency, is not a good attribute in France. C'est la vie en France.

Not sure if anyone else asked this yet.... Some countries give special consideration to those individuals whose parents or grandparents were born in that country (even if they were not) - is France one of those ???
