The Joseph Henry bow sure is pretty to look at! I have two bows: Robert Morrow, a US maker who studied with Espey, and a Jean Jacques Millant bow with an experimental frog where the frog is made of two pieces; the top portion is actually attached to the stick, and the bottom half is what moves as you tighten the frog. It feels as though the frog never moves away from the thumb when playing. Hard to describe unless you see photos.

That's quite a collection, bravo.

A beautiful collection indeed. I have seen that exact J Henry bow before in a photograph dated 1998. The button is beautiful, and if you wanted to add a word to describe the style of button: it is a "tapered" button. The button tapers from thick to thin (from the pearl eye part to the collar that touches the pernambuco :)

Thanks! I have a pernambuco bow, but definitely not very expensive - it's my favourite bow. It has a nice feel in spiccato passages and I like how it seamlessly changes direction at the frog or point.

I have mostly modern bows, I have one made by Ole Kanestrom who also studied with Charles Espey; a Rodney Mohr, a Benoit Rolland and a Justin Poirson.

Nice, informative little video. I am sort of on a quest to locate master bow-restoration experts. I recently purchased a very fine bow from a former violinist with the Philadelphia Symphony....branded F. N. Voirin, Paris, and to me it looks absolutely authentic but with no papers. A dark, chocolatey stick with lots of "curl" in the pernambuco, 60.5 grams, but with an odd frog: it is engraved with "L. AUER" on the ferrule. Of course this is referring to Leopold Auer, the great violinist, but what intrigues me is that Auer was a contemporary of Voirin. Could it be possible this bow was made for Auer?? I know it's a long shot.

Hello again! Lovely bow collection you have, and I imagine you can play absolutely any repertoire you want using those bows! May I ask where your accent is from? I can't quite place it!

Nice video. Thank you! Where do you recommend to purchase French bows?

I suggest you purchase a Musafia violin case which hold a water tube with holes to allow the violin and bows not to dry out so saves cracking

The violin we see at the beginning. What is it? some Strad and Amati Style came together? Brother´s Amati? Looks like a masterpiece. I have the Strad Calendar "Amati"

Good video, but we are not interested in Fiat Currency price of bows in an inflated market...we are interested in the playing characteristics of the bows....
