My Friend Offered To Buy The House For Just $1..... - Reddit Family
--------------
AITA For Renting My House To A Friend With Poor Financial Habits? Now, She’s Offering To Buy The House For A Ridiculously Low Price, Even Just $1.
-------------
A 31-year-old woman, who grew up in poverty, used her experiences as motivation to diligently manage her family's finances. She and her husband were able to purchase a house in early 2015 for $118k and paid it off completely.
She had a friend named Carly who grew up in similar circumstances but struggled with financial management. Carly rented the old house with the intention of buying it later. However, she was never financially stable enough to make the purchase and frequently failed to pay rent in full.
After the couple purchased a new home, they decided to rent out their old house to Carly, who consistently expressed a desire to buy the house but was never able to afford it. She even absurdly offered to buy it for just $1, which frustrated the homeowners.
Carly and her new boyfriend, Reggie, attempted to buy the house but could not prove sufficient income to secure a mortgage. They also violated the lease by attempting unauthorized subletting. These actions, along with continuous partial rent payments, led the homeowners to decide against renewing the lease, asking them to move out.
Eventually, Carly and Reggie were unable to negotiate a purchase at a significantly reduced market price and had to move out. The house was then prepared for sale to another buyer.
The story highlights the importance of not mixing business with friendship without understanding someone's capabilities and character. Establishing clear boundaries and adhering to contract terms is crucial to avoid similar issues. The homeowners learned that they could not help a friend who was unwilling to change or manage their finances effectively. The narrative concludes with the homeowners separating from Carly and initiating the process of selling the house, illustrating the importance of making firm decisions and not allowing personal emotions to influence property management.

The fact tia had to kick her out was the only red flag needed to not rent to her. You can sometimes just sell the house with them in it, you can take the hit but the future owner knows and tends to have experience in these situations
