Honestly, my favorite look for Thor in all of the MCU is in that final battle. I don’t care if gods are suppose to be ripped, I think he looks more like a god than he ever has during that final battle.

I think it was that he fought for fat thor for the whole movie. I think they didn’t originally wrote that thor was gonna be fat, I also doubt they are opposed to the idea. Chris was just the one who gave them the idea and it worked perfectly

It’s the first battle Thor ever fought where he knew for the first time that destiny wasn’t inherently on his side- and that he very well could die. He finds out there is no destiny and nearly destroys him with depression- and then he does something far harder than he ever has before. Stared into the abyss knowing there wasn’t a grand plan, picked up his weapons, overcame his depression, and decided to fight for the right reasons harder than ever before despite the gravity and consequences of his actions now being full force for him. Even in Ragnarök: “we aren’t meant to stop ragnarok, we’re supposed to cause it.” It was a crazy and ballsy plan that would cost his people and himself- and he reassured himself with “it must be destiny.” It’s a barely subtle character narrative for Thor, but I love it.

Personally, I think it would have been much better if Thor was the one who did the snap to bring everyone back instead of Hulk. Thor has lived with guilt for the past five years. Even before Thanos, Thor feels guilty for loosing his Father and Mother. Then Thanos kills another half of his civilization at the beginning of infinity war and kills his best friend too. Right before Thanos snaps his fingers, Thor almost kills him but Thanos is still able to use his infinity gauntlet which would have left Thanos feeling even more guilty. Thor has lost everything and it would be an amazing story arch if he was the one who brought everyone back. This could also lead into him getting his golden arm which he has in the comics. Also, this would leave Hulk open for a rematch with Thanos. Last time Thanos and Hulk fought, Thanos beat Hulk but now that Bruce has combined Hulks strength with his mind he may have been able to overpower Thanos this time. If Thor was the one who used the gauntlet it would have been an amazing story arch for him and would have left the door open for a rematch of Thanos vs Hulk.

I LOVE that moment, because for me it perfectly captures why Steve Rogers is special. He's not the strongest, or fastest, or most powerful hero.... not even close, but that doesn't matter. Even when he was a scrawny little kid before the serum, Steve Rogers NEVER stayed down. He'll always keep fighting. Even if its just him with half a shield vs. an entire army of thousands of vicious creatures. He can do this all GOD DAMN day!

I disagree they both changed, but in opposites. Tony Stark starts of as a narcissist, he learns to do well and at the time of Avengers he learns to sacrifice, but he feels responsible. The PTSD, creating Ultron and eventually signing for the sokovia accord. At this point he is less selfish, but still very arrogant. He clashes with Cap in this film cause cap is on the half of his journey too. Cap starts of as selfless, the opposite of Tony. He starts the journey of sacrificing himself. He later learns to doubt, doubt shield, doubt the government, be more indepent and become more selfish with his choices in Civil War. The clash happens and then there is phase 3. Iron Man learns to care even more, become more responsible (teaching spidey). Cap is still there to protect the earth, but his own way, more of an individual. Then endgame happens. Where Tony sacrifices himself. He started of as an egotistical character and ended up altruistic. Cap started of as a selfless hero, but ends his story with a selfish choice going back to peggy and growing old. Tony and Steve start at opposite sides, but also end where the other started.

And that a "big dead" which hits one of the main characters is something which has to be EARNED, not something to throw in for a cheap shock effect.

god, as someone who projects a fuckton onto thor, i spent the whole movie in tears. it hit a little hard.

So many people missed the point and saw him as a throwaway character, but I absolutely LOVE Thor in this film.

Thor was both the funniest and most heartbreaking character in this movie.

As someone with depression, his scene with Frigga meant more to me than anything else in the entire saga. Especially the "I'm still worthy" moment.

I actually agree, I just wish he had a bit more of a climax in the movie, like a big pay-off for the journey. But it still makes sense thematically, because things like that don't go away in a few hours.

@@yeatswarden no way. Because even if they manage to make another series like this and do it exactly as well as the MCU, it won't feel fresh because we've already got the MCU once. I don't know if even marvel can top this, the best thing about the MCU was it felt at the same time made up as it went along and planned out meticulously from the first movie. It felt like they were always planting seeds but also like "Fuck it, let's make a movie about a talking raccoon and a tree that only says 3 words!" I think that if anyone tries to replicate Marvel's success, they will end up(and have ended up) focusing too much on the endgame and failing before they get there.

Sabih Faraz See I always viewed it as he genuinely couldn’t because Cap had room to grow still to become worthy. More specifically he needed his arc with Bucky to realize he has weaknesses and blind spots in his judgment and that he still has a reason to care and genuinely live in the world today. Only after those things were taken care of was he able to do it.

@@chasewhitehead4525 I get where you're coming from but you need to remember why Dr.Erskine even chose him for the experiment Cap showed no promise in any of the physical tests they put him through while someone like Gilmore Hodge passed all the tests when Colonel Phillips threw the dummy grenade while they were training all the soldiers who were physically superior to Cap ran away but it was Cap who was ready to give his own life to save everyone else right there Cap's honorable heart and his compassion is what makes him as great as he is it's the same reason why Cap dropped his shield after Tony tried to one up him one last time in Civil War his shield and enhanced physique isn't what he's defined by it's like what Tony told Spidey that "If you're nothing without the suit than you shouldn't have it" the only flaws Cap has is his soft spot for Bucky and the a bit of trust issues he had between Winter Soldier and Civil War although that was still justified but all in all Cap never needed to change his entire personality while Tony and Thor were completely different characters early on Tony even when he realized his weapons manufacturing business was doing more harm than good he still maintained his ego stroking by frequently showboating and his ridiculous arrogance when he leaked his home address to the Mandarin which could've ended badly for both him and Pepper and Thor was pretty much just like Hela early on he wasn't fighting for Asgard or the 9 realms he just wanted to satisfy himself and he maintained that arrogance when he was belittling Cap and Tony by calling them Tiny and Petty in the first Avengers film and there's a reason why Thor reacted differently to both times Cap had his hands on Mjolnir in Age of Ultron he looked worried and was a little embarrassed in Endgame he looked like a proud brother and even said "I knew it" and Cap caring about Thor's feelings and not completely lifting Mjolnir again really shows his honorable heart and compassion cause he never completely changed and he just kept on proving why he's worthy

The movie itself shows he is not worthy: his grip does not loosen on the handle while the hammer nudges and his hands slide down. The way it’s show tells us 100% he was not worthy. Just because the creators say after the fact he was worthy is just their own personal fan theories, no more or less valid than anyone else’s. But, because how the scene was shot we know he wasn’t worthy.

It slid threw no one else’s hand, nor did it move or slide on his second “attempt”. He even played it off extremely obvious. The scene was specifically shot *_to_* make that visible. The scene was not shot to show he wasn’t worthy, it was a tease placed there by the Director giving a wink and nod to Cap’s ability to do so in the comics for the last 30+ years. The only decision made after the fact was for Endgame to build off that scene and provide a off to it.

Imagine the logistics of trying to pretend not to lift a heavy box no one else can budge, realizing as you begin to lift this unmovable box that you can lift it without letting on that you could lift it easily the entire time. There’s really no way to hide the fact you could lift it. Either Steve was ALMOST worthy and only made it budge because he was holding onto something, or that because he tried to lift it in a competition for personal glory he couldn’t lift it, but he knew he could lift it in a moment of selflessness, like not backing down from Thanos and saving Thor. Who knows. But the way the scene is shot, it is obvious the intention was that Steve was not yet worthy, but to your point it was obvious a fun wink as to his lifting it in the comics.

This was most notably shown briefly in TFA. Also, Thor did catch on - hence the smile being wiped off his face then replaced with concern (which was also built on with his exclamation of “I knew it!” In Endgame). Again, another point showing that the scene was shot the way it was with the intention of “if you know, you know lol”. Whedon’s comments at that years Comic Con confirm it was not meant to be interpreted as he just couldn’t do it since the very question that was asked was “What makes Steve Rogers not worthy” - to which he replied with the above. I know a popular theory is that Cap was hindered due to knowing the fate of the Starks (which has its own issues), but the exact qualifications for worthiness have never been explained. Simply that it is what ever Odin deems so, and he had plenty of his own flaws - like his bloody history and existence of Hela. If worthiness was dictated on an almost basis, the all the Avengers should be able to at least move it somewhat. And not lifting during a competition is the exact reason Cap would have not to do so. He’s humble, not a showoff. At this point Thor believed Mjolnir was what made him special as opposed to later when he realized the power came from himself (hence the very different reactions) and that’s something Cap wouldn’t purposely take away from him.

The way it’s shot, the way the moment is presented to us the audience is clearly that Cap could not lift the hammer despite trying. Just because the screenwriter, director, or pga says he could lift it doesn’t make it so. That’s just their head-canon/fan theory. The only thing that is canon is what is in the movie, and the movie shows he could not lift Mjolnir in that moment. Edit: spelling

Diego González agreed. I personally thought Bucky deserved it better cause he was his sidekick turned killer who then redeemed himself. Falcon hasn’t really had much of a story arc and his powers are “pretty much a jet pack” as said by Matt(I think he was the one who said that) but I can see why people thought he was a good fit.

I’m pretty sure Bucky is gonna end up with the shield. He does in the comics at least.

He's been none stop working towards stopping Thanos even after his failure. I also think it's kinda a callback to him being the one who started it all and after everything, he can finally truly rest.

Personally I don't see it that way. I don't think he spent years working on time travel, just a few days days/weeks. That said; everyone keeps saying that he discovered time travel, when it was really the Pyms that discovered it. Tony just figured out how to safely navigate the quantam realm; like the differnce bwtween discovering an ocean and building a raft.

The thing I still lack with DC and it's characters is the connection, I just don't feel attached and I could care less if they die or recast. Maybe it's because they don't have as many movies, or maybe it's because Marvel just did a better job fleshing out these characters/stories. But the connection and attachment with MANY MCU characters (mainly Tony) just isn't comparable to anything DC has even come close to. By Endgame and even long before you're just so invested in these people and their stories. There's isn't a single franchise to come close to doing that for me. And there's a lot you can nitpick about the MCU, a lot of plot holes and formulaic stories. But man the movie going experience they create with these movies is something I don't think I'll ever come by again, watching Endgame with a crowd was probably some of the most enjoyable 3 hours I've experienced, hundreds of fans all cheering and enjoying it just as much as you are. This is what saddens me about the DCEU, I don't think they're even close giving that kind of experience to people. But maybe one day!

The first Avengers scene during the final battle where they are all in a circle is the best scene. Not because of the CGI, but because of the impact it had and how it set up the Avengers as a team.

twintails I saw a review of endgame on RU-vid, maybe Chris stuckman, he said it was a great idea by the filmmakers to keep Thor fat throughout the movie. They could’ve easily changed him back to fit Thor, but it was an important message that Thor’s arch went from thanos PTSD to him accepting what happened and using it to motivate him

correction: it's not "you are still a hero". it's "you can still be a hero". heroism is an action. thor deciding to leave his nest, and help out despite being fat and depressed is still heroic. he had to DO something. being fit, being well-built isn't what someone naturally is. it's a consequence of living an active lifestyle, of exercise and effort. being worthy, and being heroic is the same thing. it's not "because you're good enough just the way you are" it's because you act worthy despite the way you are.

the mcu has gotten a lot of mileage out of all the groundwork joss whedon laid between _avengers_ and _age of ultron_ but what groundwork has been laid for phase 4? _endgame_ feels like it's all ice cream and no vegetables. yeah, i like the film on its own terms, but it kinda makes me worry about the future of the mcu. i think it's easily the fourth best avengers film.

sirmoonslosthismind There was nothing to lay the ground work for Iron Man in phase 1. This movie was meant to be a culmination of all the past movies. That’s why it didn’t have a single end credits scene. The ground work is the past characters that will return. Everything else is what the new movies are for. They will build their groundwork for future phases.

Josh Hunt I wouldn’t really classify anything in the MCU as sci-fi. They make no attempt to explain their tech aside from sticking the word “quantum” or “jump” onto things. Tony saying that he wants to find the eigenvalues of an inverted Möbius strip with a spectral decomposition isn’t really scientifically coherent at all, nor is creating a timespace GPS. They feel more like Star Wars to me - fantasy but sometimes in space or with magic.

Quantum Stop Motions Star Trek is about as science fiction as you can get.
