For Scott Lang to tell Wanda, “Hey, I know you too! You’re great!” must’ve made her feel like a million bucks. During such an emotionally vulnerable period after the accident, hearing that appreciation must’ve been really nice.
@n0tunkn0wn34

Brennan Barber he was actually being sarcastic. At least in my point of view but if he was being appreciative that would definitely help Wanda.
@brennanbarber7469
@brennanbarber7469 4 года назад
N0TUnkn0wn I definitely don’t think he was being sarcastic. I think he was probably just very excited and his feelings about the situation was amplified. So perhaps he actually didn’t care all that much about Wanda but since he was so excited about being there he felt more enticed to compliment her, but I definitely think it was genuine. I can’t see him being that sarcastic and rude about a hero with good intentions making a perfectly human mistake. Scott Lang knows all about mistakes.

Eye hate Nick gurrs That’s closer along the lines of what I was saying than “sarcasm”. I think he was just excited. When you’re really excited about something, you often wanna spread that joy with other people so you’re overly kind and complementary. Sarcasm would involve malicious intent, which Scott definitely didn’t have. Sarcasm is an attempt to mock or convey contempt. I don’t think that is displayed here at all.

The only gripe I have with her argument was when she said that Tony was trapped in the past. Tony has always been a futurist. Clint even called him that in prison scene. yup... the fun bit is that Cap is primarily in the right about this. If we went with Tony's mentality, then we should not have had a world war II cuz fighting back against nazi germany caused so much more death over the world than if we'd just let germany do their thing with europe. Thing is, against evil/bad people you have to fight back. Yes there'll be costs to it, but it's something that has to be done to ensure the liberty, safety and freedom of the majority. The best thing about civil war is that Tony and Steve begin their stories on the opposite side. Tony rejects oversight in Avengers 1 while Steve stubbornly adheres to it. But the stories each characters go through highlight the dangers of the philosophy they agree with and it makes them change their mind. Winter Soldier teaches Steve that any organisation can become corrupted. Age of Ultron teaches Tony that the Avengers can't just do things because they have the ability to do so. Steve learns that individual decisions can keep you on the right path when the organisation you're in turns to immorality and Tony learns that sometimes you need oversight to tell you no. Both of those philosophies are wrong and right at the same time. Both of the characters adopted these philosophies through painful experiences so both of them embrace one philosophy wholly and reject the other one. They're both short-sighted but their motivations are so understandable and relatable. This film is a goddamn masterful pay-off to like 8 films of set up.

What shocked me was how fast and without even a second thought Cap choose to defend Bucky, who has just been revealed to have killed Tony's parents. It kinda shows this blind loyalty to his friends without even thinking about what is right or wrong in that moment. Also kinda shows how little he appreciates his friendship with Tony, if he can't even defend him after just seeing the tape of his parents getting killed.

@@charl99ie But Cap knew that Bucky was brainwashed. If someone took you and scrambled your brain to be a killing machine. It would be good if you had a friend that knew the whole story to defend you. How can Steve Rogers allow someone who he sees as a brother, who he knows was brainwashed to do these things, whose struggling to adapt not only for what he's done but also this new world Bucky is in, standbye and let the world and so many Superheroes reign their wrath on him? Not telling Tony the truth early is my only gripe with Cap.

The production value is really going up with that intro... And Team Cap all the way btw. One major detail of the film that I noticed is Captain America was the only one seen reading the Sokovian Accords in the film. It was a two inch thick document. He read the strict regulations inside and knew there was potential there for someone to abuse the power inside that document. It might have been written with good intentions in mind, but eventually someone would take advantage of it. He just fought against a tyrannical government in WW2 and didn’t want to do it again down the road.

The one thing I don't like about the movie is that it presents this as a binary choice, accept or don't, and there's so much more than that going on. Also the entire UN coming together within days of the heros finding out about the legislation, and the flagrant disregard for sovereign laws on display, the politics behind the themes of the movie are quite flawed, but ultimately I think that this movie, at the time it came out, was second only to the first Iron Man movie.

One point I don't think anyone's ever brought up is that Tony Stark doesn't like Captain America because Howard Stark his father. In the first Captain America, Steve Rogers and Howard Stark had a relationship where they were a team and they actually worked well together. you can see Tony Stark's animosity towards Steve Rogers in the first avengers movie when he says he's nothing special. Tony Stark and Howard Stark never really had a really good relationship. The final nail in the coffin was when Tony said that's my dad's shield you don't deserve it.
@EmbassyNerdcore
@EmbassyNerdcore 4 года назад
To Tony, Cap having that shield is like a dad giving his garage project car to his step-son instead of his bio-son. It's actual value to tony is all the things he could have done with it, with the Vibranium (oh hi Black Panther ur involved too now, BP's relationship with his own dad is something that both Cap & Tony could be jealous of). Cap just used it for fighting hand-to-hand and nothing more, so it's hard for a guy like Tony to see the value. Cap obviously saved the world with it numerous times, it's as important to him as Thor's hammer is to Thor (and surprise, Thor's relationship with his dad is a big part of his story too!). So that's why I can imagine Tony just losing it and punching Cap as soon as he found out about Bucky.

I've been team cap through and through, but seeing the analysis you guys make of Tony's character has opened my eyes to his character development. I could tell you all my favorite things about cap any time, but Tony was always a character I enjoyed, but never found myself relating to, or diving deep into. But hearing Jenna's comment about Tony being motivated by fear hits hard. It's so true, too, and I never realized it before. Reminds me of a certain moment [Spoiler redact, but iykyk].

I’m gonna have to argue with Holden saying that the choices made by Cap and Iron Man are out of character. They aren’t. They only seem out of character because the characters themselves have actually developed and changed over their respective trilogies and events. Iron Man is where Cap is now and Cap is where Iron Man was. Cap doesn’t trust the government with anything. Iron Man can’t trust himself to protect anyone and feels guilt about Ultron as well as anxiety about “Thanos”. They seem like pretty in character decisions to me. Besides Cap making out with Sharon Carter because what the heck 😂😂 Also hahaahaha 24:35 killed me

Even just saying that, was Tony lying to himself to protect him from his real trauma - his dad, and the relationship his dad had with Cap. For Cap's best friend to have ended any chance of Tony building a better relationship. Tony always took his mom for granted because he was trying to be like his dad, who did the same. And Tony was doing the same thing to Pepper. The amount of grief, and honestly Tony is a genius so he probably hit himself with all the self-reflection within the first 3 minutes of knowing, just makes his pain worse and makes him hate Cap in those minutes.

One thing that irks me about this movie is that Peter's line saying "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen? They happen because of you." is exactly team Cap's argument in this movie. At the time I always took it as Peter was never really sure what the schism was really about and was just recruited for the fight, but I was annoyed they never really showed his realisation of what he was actually fighting for in the airport as the MCU moved forward.
@EmbassyNerdcore
@EmbassyNerdcore 4 года назад
I think that's great subtext that actually works as an Easter Egg nod to the comics, when originally Peter is on the side of the tech geniuses because they 'get' him in a way no one else does, and he looks up to Tony, and trusted them enough to go public with his identity. Then when Peter actually thought about the conflict from his own point of view, as you said it lines up more with Cap, and so Spidey swaps sides after finding out that Tony took it too far by imprisoning the other side (portrayed here by the RAFT which isn't nearly as bad as in the comics they banished them away from Earth entirely).
@KonohaRamenNoodles
@KonohaRamenNoodles 4 года назад
EmbassyNerdcore yes, spot on. Another Easter egg that people often miss is the “No, you move.” Speech that sneaks its way in during Peggy’s funeral. That’s straight from the comic when Cap and Spidey have a confrontation of words.
@fernandocalahorrano613
@fernandocalahorrano613 4 года назад
One thing about that, Tony clearly sees that Peter's ideology is very much in line with cap, that's why he's speechless and breaks eye contact. Peter is just so caught up in the hype (see homecoming intro) to probably give it a second thought. Even in this movie Peter tells cap that Tony tells him how dangerous caps ideology can be. "You think you're right and that makes you dangerous." Plus is like 14 or 15 in that movie so his understanding of the situation can only go so far.

From a character standpoint, I love how on the surface, Cap and Iron Man's positions seem out of character. If you look at them through the movies though, Stark has frequently made things worse, or created large problems when he acted on his own. While Cap has repeatedly had his superiors betray him, or go against his personal values. It makes sense that Stark would lean towards the side of oversight, while Cap would push against it.

Each is the solution to their own struggle, and the complicated relationship that Tony, Cap, Bucky, and Howard Stark share, is probably the most amount of drama you could share between only 4 people. Cap worked with Howard, Tony was jealous that Howard was working all the time, Tony wanted to be like his dad and work all the time, Cap's best friend kills Howard, thanks to Hydra, who literally just betrayed the Avengers personally by destroying Shield, and Shield being the only place Cap felt he belonged, and Bucky's guilt for being part of that..... like.... honestly I get where they are both coming from but the entire battle in the airport and the shelter could've been avoided if captain america used his head instead of having to save his boyfriend all the time And Tony going into a full on rage against bucky was also bad since he could at least try to understand but captain just staying by bucky's side kind of pisses me off on how dumb it is to defend him even after everything he did just because he can't control it; he should've simply asked tony for help from the start instead of saying "oh he won't believe me!! so i'll stay with my baby boy bucky to fight along side him no matter what!"
@mikeg155
@mikeg155 4 года назад
Yisus Not dumb at all to defend Bucky since those actions were not his own. That’s the equivalent of HYDRA getting an Iron Man suit, killing people, then saying Tony is responsible. Winter Soldier was nothing but an empty vessel. Also, it’s easy to understand why Cap is so determined to save Bucky when you remember he always blamed himself for not saving Bucky on the train and feels responsible for all the shit that happened to him after. Guilt like that will eat you alive - which is why Cap gets so shook when Crossbones mentions him. As for Cap explaining the situation to Tony before the fighting started; he did. And like he thought, Tony didn’t believe him. Tony even apologized to Sam about it at the Raft and to Cap himself in Siberia once the real Doctors body was found.

It's much more convincing that he actually believed what he was saying by explaining what it meant to him rather than just repeating the line we all know. I hope Matt and all of yu see this: I think people should stop thinking about Bucky being Steve's boyfriend, just imagine being on Cap's shoes, he literally went to the future and when he woke up, everyone he knew, was gone or had already lived their lives like Peggy, and he lost his best buddy, his lifelong friend, Wouldn't you try to save him, the one remaining close person u had from your life before everything changed? Bucky was like a brother to Steve even before the super soldier serum, so Steve wasn't going to let his best friend be taken away from him once again. I also want to mention that Steve has really good reasons to be against the Sokovia accords, remember what happende in Captain America The Winter Soldier, in that movie Steve was put to the test, his believes and his vision about good an bad were tested, he saw how Shiled was infiltrated by Hydra, how the big organizations can be corrupted and also how people in the government are not very trustworthy. Something I just realized (and maybe it’s nothing), but on the topic of the camera’s steadiness in the fight in this movie involving Winter Soldier, Captain America, and Iron Man being smoother and more direct compared to the fight between everyone at the airport as chaotic; I think there was a purpose to that. When Winter Soldier goes off after being triggered by the words, there was a direct purpose he had (I can’t figure out the right way to words this). There wasn’t really any room for him to change his mind, because of the brain washing he’d endured. Then going to the fight between everyone; having the camera work as chaotic works in the sense where no one wants to fight each other. There’s that inner conflict that’s pulling on each individual, emphasized by the camera shots being all over the place. And then it goes back to, as Holden says, slow and focused, because at this point the characters have a, I guess, defined sense of what they feel they need to do. They’re completely resolved in their position. The camera is expressing these characters' mindset. It’s just something I noticed, maybe someone has a different viewpoint. Hopefully, this made sense.

Damoq Devin killed it with that swooping channel intro! Holden tapped me to do the iron man vfx in the opening. Initially I was doing Spider-Man vfx for his short fan film that is postponed.

I'm still not over how many entire series have been squeezed into single reaction videos while MCU films are done at most two at a time. The injustice...

I lovelovelove how much conversation this movie sparks! It was great hearing everyone’s opinions/thoughts at the end of the video. I’m Team Cap but i can totally understand Tony’s side, too. I love how they don’t TELL you which side to pick. They present each opinion equally. And because of that, you can see both sides. And how human their responses are.

Funny because they end up not having any power of the heroes since Tony breaks the rules to go follow cap, most of team cap goes missing, Wanda and vision go off radar, Peter Parker basically does what ever he wants in homecoming without any worry of the accords, Scott works outside of the accords and fools the guys trying to keep him on house arrest.

Something they ignore is that the UN passing something doesn't mean much until nations ratify it. I somehow doubt any country had time to push this through their parliament assuming it even passed.

Ya know, at the very begining a month back, I didn't like Matt like at ALL. I didn't understand how he thought and why he had the opinions he does. But as time went on and I saw more and more episodes of this series, (binge watched em all in one night) I put aside my first initial reaction to Matt and grew to actually respect him for the person he is. Yes, he may have different opinions than a lot of people, but he doesn't have a lack in morals or ethics. He's not like he's evil or anything (unless...) I came to understand why he thinks the way he does, as he probably grew up watching different movies than us. Sometimes the points he brings up make sense, in the spectrum of his mind. And some I even agree with like with X-3 or The Winter Soldier. I've also started using "Bygone Jim Moments" as a term, myself. Maybe my point is, I'm sorry I had a bad initial image of Matt in my head for a long time, as it was just made based on a single opinion he made about Avengers. I respect him now, and who he is as a person, and his opinions. Even if they are garbage sometimes 😏💭

Y'all should watch the video Matt has on his channel where he explains his point of view and how he understands the point of view from the viewers. It changed my opinion on him for the best. It's called "Negative comments to our Star Wars video(My response)".

Matt remember your thought - “He’s worthy of that shield, because he doesn’t have to have that shield” - for it comes to play again down the road. Congrats gang - your best movie discussion so far. Further proof how great a movie Civil War is.
@hanburgundy4317
@hanburgundy4317 4 года назад
He's worthy of the shield if anyone is, and that gesture shows he feels this, but also and moreso I feel is that this represents that Steve knows that in a lot of ways he _doesn't_ deserve the shield. He knows that it represents a certain ideal and that he totally betrayed one of his best friends to protect himself and to protect the person responsible for the deaths of his friend's parents; he knows he fucked up, but he STILL tries to save himself until Tony makes him tell the truth. Cap knows he did Tony dirty, so the least he can do is give him the shield as penance.
