My friend Chuy Madrigal did alley-oop back 180 over the Hollywood 16 rail also back in 2008. It was in his SLAP magazine One In A Million part. Trent McClung was in that year. Ages ago. But yeah anyways, was rad to see someone else do it. And John did it flawlessly. What’s weird is he has always reminded me of my friend Chuy, then he went and did the same iconic trick. Chuy quit skating young for like no reason in 2010.

i just started skating 6 months ago, im almost 30. i make good progress, getting the standard flips a bit more consistant, working on my first tre now and shit. but seeing this is just somewhat motivating and demotivating at the same time: seeing them doing those boardslides makes me shit a little bit less in my pants going for some flat and low boardslide. on the other hand, there is really no way i see myself ever doing something like that.

2:02, the dude who kneed himself in the face was Aaron Homoki. He did it on a filmer's board and the soft wheels caused his legs to bounce weird. He ended up needing surgery to fix his (already) messed up teeth

Anyway, Reynolds and Jamie Thomas were the ones who put the Hollywood 16 in the spotlight. Special props to Rowley’s front board slide though, one of my favorite Thrasher covers. Orange font Thrasher logo over a black and white photo (I think Daniel Harold Stürt took the pic and developed the film himself). Beautiful. I love skateboarding.
