That's why we make photos, videos, paintings... we try to keep memories. It's not about the material, it's not about the pixels or the dynamics of a sensor, it's all about the emotions and remembering the richness of a beautiful life. What a great man was Mr. Dee Molenaar! It's also about bringing tears to a 7 foot 250 pound guy who lost his father this year. If only I had a quarter of his memories on film.
I didn't shed a tear watching this video. Instead I smiled and rejoiced this man. He lead an amazing life of Adventure, Art, Exploration, Teaching others and just LOVING THE OUTDOORS. Plus he lived long, happy and was able to enjoy his friends and family. So no, I can't shed a tear but instead I learned from him and CELEBRATE HIS LIFE. He is an inspiration to us all. R.I.P. Sir, you earned it. Thanks for sharing this celebration of life during these difficult times.
I didn't know this man, neither his family nor his friends nor his passion towards mountains.. but I can't hold my tears.. life is all about creating memories, making friends, caring for family.. what a beautiful video.. thanks for sharing in this hard time.. I hope everyone is fine, I wish all who are suffering from Covid19 recover soon
I cried like a baby watching this. And I am the kinda guy who eats nails for breakfast without breaking a sweat. We all need to reflect a bit nowadays. Thanks for the video.
The Brotherhood of the Rope. It's my most favorite Himalayan mountaineering story. Dee offered so much for the team in 1953. I have much respect for him and the team as they have developed a bond throughout their lifetime.
Holy fuck I cried like a baby, thank you so very much for all the amazing work that went into this. Thank you dpreview for showcasing this to the world.
Well Done! I wonder from time to time on how many incredible people and families that there must be that may not go unnoticed like this one would have if it not for a great story that was put together for all of us to see.... These stories should be aired more every day instead of the things we are targeted to watch..... Thank you to Dee Molenaar his family and DPReview for making this awesome story possible.... More please.
This was a very pleasant surprise. I turn to DPReview for expert unbiased reviews and then this....a heartwarming look at a life well lived. Seems like a wonderful man and wonderful family & friends. Thanks!
Thank you for that. So well shot, edited, but more ,in these times of High Anxiety, i.e. Covid 19 ....this was such a life reinforcing message .....Share this with the world. Marty Sender RU-vid
This is powerful. I love this so much I hope I don't sound mushy for saying that. I run a photography channel also and we spend so much time reviewing gear and talkin about cameras but this is you using that gear to produce work that matters. My hat goes off to you for producing this, as well as this great man and his family. Something tells me there's lots of other untold stories out there. Respect
Wow pretty nice I’m joyful joyful watching your video sir please stay safe and healthy and special happy birthday to your father 100 years. That’s great time enjoyed
There is a short interview with director on DPReview: www.dpreview.com/videos/9244273795/watch-my-friends-were-mountaineers-a-film-about-photographer-dee-molenaar
Do you guys already have an EOS R5 in hand? Can you tease us, give us a nod? ;) Looking forward to see what you guys come up with. I am too small to get cameras unless I buy them. I'd love to know how you guy got started networking with camera companies or camera vendors. I don't want to lose the ability to talk about camera rumours so getting involved wth NDAs is not of interest. Would you be interested in mentoring a fellow RU-vid from Central Canada - someone willing and dedicated to learning. I have done over 110 videos since November... Thanks for your consideration.
