Excellent garden! ❤️ When we put in our first front yard garden, I was worried how the neighbors I hadn’t talked to would react. It only took a couple of weeks of working on it before most of the people on our street would stop and check it out. Everybody was extremely positive about it. It quickly became a regular stop for the ones who walked/ran, and a reason to get outside, hangout with the neighbors , and try some of anything in season for the others. Hope your front yard garden brings you as much joy as ours did.
Yes, that's true here too! I was not expecting that community aspect at all. I have given countless tours to passersby. It's been so great getting to know everyone in an age when most people tend to stay isolated in their homes!
Thats amazing u r so dope. If society smartens up front yard raised beds will be so commonplace that conventional lawns will cause more people to stop and stare at an unusual and useless waste of water. Cheers!
When I meet my neighbors walking my dog, and they ask me where I live, I always say "the house with the crazy garden on the corner" LOL and they all know which house I'm talking about. 😂
I also have a front yard garden but much smaller than yours. I live in a row house and so it is very noticeable by all my neighbors. One nice thing that happened with my neighbor to the right of me-he was so busy that he couldn’t keep up with mowing his lawn, which was very weedy,so I suggested that I would be willing to plant flowers at our adjoining fence for him,and he suggested that I could plant his entire lawn to anything I wanted-so I did!!! It was only 10x10 but between his and mine , and the fact that I put up supports and plastic row covers for the winter, I am able to garden for 10 out of 12 months in Zone 7a
I love stories like this!! It's funny I NEVER intended to put my garden in the front yard, but that was the hand I was dealt with my house. I hated it in the beginning, but I know ALL my neighbors because of it. Everyone who walks their dog stops to talk to me. People ask questions. I've given tours to random pedestrians. I'm seeing other gardens in people's front yards in my neighborhood in the last few years too. It's really been an amazing side effect of gardening in the front yard!
This is fantastic! I wish everybody did this as much as they were able. After initial setup, this puts a lot of change back in your pocket. I like that you put as much effort into how the garden looks, as you did in the actual gardening. Front yard gardens really should be lovely, as it helps inspire more people to convert their grass into something more productive.
You know, I always thought I spent more money than I got back but last year (because I am a nerd) I made a spreadsheet and actually added up the per pound price of everything I grew and multiplied it by pounds I grew and I made a profit! So it can actually be a money-saving hobby!
I agree! It makes me so sad thinking about all the people that live in great growing areas, have a ton of land, fluffy, nutrient rich soil & THEY DONT GARDEN!!!
Additionally, there are many communities where people cannot do what you're doing because they are covenant controlled, and growing vegetables in the front yard is not within the rules... We live in that sort of place right now, but are getting out soon.
@@ReSprout The black also looks really elegant and modern. If you don't already have one a video on making the trellises would be wonderful. As well as the wood and stains/paint on your raised bed.
I know this is a SUPER old request, but I finally did make that trellis video! Just went live! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2MF5QHitZg0.html Enjoy!
I live in an urban area too, though the sun hits my backyard, my neighbors are close and there's only a chain link fence between us so I was very mindful to build a garden and trellis system that looked tailored, organized and not lower the value of their homes by making a messy garden. I have black painted raised beds as well and my trellis follow both fences to create beautiful 8f tall green walls. I did build a nice 8x10 greenhouse, a smaller 4x6 one for tomatoes (it's very humid here and blithe was a problem so I settled for cramming 9 tomato plants in one small greenhouse). My main greenhouse has 2 shelves for seedlings and microgreens and E shaped raised beds with trellises in the back for winter peas/ summer greenhouse cucumbers. I built a simplified pergola over my deck for grapes and scrarlet runner beans, it's like a cocoon of greens and flowers. I grow 50f of sweet peas, we never seem to have enough. I know this was a year ago but I can't imagine life without my greenhouse. I'd totally add a greenhouse. I did squeeze in 4 fruit trees across the yard, apricots and cherries are so popular with the kids. This year I'm removing my strawberries from the raised beds, we lost so many to moldiness and pest. That's why they grow them on hills with garden fabrics on farms, they rot on the flat soil. I decided to move them to a grow tower so the fruit wouldn't sit on the soil. You have a beautiful garden, wish more people would build and invest in growing food and landscaping with edible plants.
Yes I'm thinking greenhouse too! And I love the sound of that pergola. I've been thinking of putting something similar over the driveway, like a carport, so I can run grapes and things on it. That will be a "conversation" with the hubs certainly! 🤣
Your video just popped up on my home feed. If I’m being honest, I typically don’t watch channels that have less than 1k subscribers and typing that out, I see how that might sound terrible! But in my experience, the lower the subs, the lower the quality of video, HOWEVER, yours is quite the exception! I see you are a new channel and I was super blown away! I hope you keep it up and keep making videos cuz this one is great!! Also, I will stop being such a RU-vid snob! Amazing video, amazing garden. New subscriber here!! ♥️♥️♥️ God bless you and your family. Thanks for the inspiration
Your comment made my day Sparrows! Thank you for taking the time to respond. It's definitely hard when you're first starting out. You work your butt off to the sound of crickets sometimes, LOL. Everyone's comments and encouragement definitely help me keep going. I'm so glad this video popped up magically for you and you enjoyed it. :-)
I always correlate lower # of subs, with lower quality content, but since I started my channel, I've been getting to get out of that habit, and I've found some really awesome channels!
Me too! This video just popped up as a recommendation. The way I see it, RU-vid recommendations are not necessarily what you want, but what you need.😉. I’ve discovered many-too many to count-awesome videos I’ve would have never found on my own.
Excellent. I'm jealous. I wish I had the area you have to garden. That said, I'm the crazy neighbor here. We moved to a condo in a semi-urban enclave in Ohio several years ago. We've devoted the foundation-area of our unit not to bushes and marigolds, but to an intensive organic garden. We're mostly in-ground, but grow eight tomatoes and most of our peppers in large, self-watering containers to take advantage of our patio. And I've met nearly all of my neighbors, who stop by, amazed at the bounty.
It really is amazing what you can get out of a small space if you have the right soil and right plants. And I do love how gardens bring neighbors together. It was definitely not something I was expecting but it's been amazing. :-)
For your cabbages, I’ve read that some people wrap the head in panty hose to keep the cabbage moths from depositing their eggs directly on the head. And because the panty hose are stretchy, the heads can keep growing.
Great garden!! You had my attention. Im just getting started on gardening and there is so much to learn. I hope I can have a garden like yours one day.
WOW is all I can say! Amazing! I live in one of those places with the HOA and they wont "lettuce" grow gardens in the front so....:o( Gotta be in the back but the front would be so much better!!
Loved this tour! It shows just how much you can grow in a small space. This is so encouraging because we just purchased a home downtown, so it has a smaller yard. Thanks for the inspiration! ❤️🌱
Not sure if you're looking to build this (or something similar), but I just came out with a build video on the trellises. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2MF5QHitZg0.html Enjoy!
632 pound last year!? WOW!!! Thats 287 kg of food a year. 0.7kg a day of organic and healthy food p/day!!! Congrats from Uruguay! (Note we don't use imperial, so the math! haha! Keep the good work!!!
I would add the greenhouse, take out your fence line beds for the espalier trees, and plant your summer greens at the foot of your trellis veggies (the greens would get shape there.)
You are so nice Max! I just cannot believe how many times this video has been seen. Blows my mind. I hope to make a video on the trellis soon. Stay tuned!
I'm a gardiner also, and I like all the abundance of food, you got growing in your front yard. May God bless, and keep you and your family. From Mildred and Chris Pendleton
It looks so gorgeous!! Great video and informative content, thank you! I wonder if you would ever be able to do a tour or list of the tools and equipment needed to maintain your garden? Also how you manage your annual calendar planning for planting. 🙏🏽
I just found your channel. I love your trellis garden and it is giving me lots of ideas for my own garden. Your videos are clear, concise, and entertaining. Thank you!
I love it. I stumbled across your video looking for ideas for front yard gardens. All of my sun is in the front but I live in a neighborhood, so I don’t want to offend the neighbors ❤
That was my situation Kathy! My backyard is tiny and a horrible full shade 23 hours out of the day. So this is how this all came to pass. I did my best to keep it nice looking since I knew it would be on display.
So excited about your front yard garden. I also have a front yard garden. One year (my best year) I got over 1100 lbs out of the garden. Of course that included alot of heavy crops like potatoes, pumpkin, corn and tomatoes. I have alot of insect pressure and have been unable to grow any squash, or cucumber well. This year I put some turkeys in the garden (I can get away with that where I live) and they demolished the squash bugs, beetles and grubs. I put them in the garden after the seedlings had grown enough that the turkeys didn't harm them. And took them out of the garden by mid August when the tomatoes were ripening (they like to eat tomatoes). I loved the trellis'. When you add all of your growing spaces together, you have a lot of garden. I'm looking forward to your other videos. Another youtuber that has really used his spaces well for growing is One Yard Revolution. I learned a lot from him.
I am in the process of moving my garden to my front yard! Backstory, I have 5.25 acres and a 'perfect' garden plot that is fenced in, but on the back of my property. This summer garden has been a busy and I feel like moving it to the always visible front yard would help it tremendously. I loved seeing this. It just strengthens my resolve that I am making the right choice! ❤️😍
OMG, 5.25 acres?!?! Is the back so terrible? Is it really shady? (That's my problem with my backyard.) OMG, I think I would die if I had to tear down or move my garden.
That is probably the nicest thing anyone can say to a gardener. 😀That being said, I be will completely forthright with everyone in saying I weeded and mowed and deadheaded and edged like a madwoman before I shot this video, LOL.
GREAT JOB! Making the Most of Suburbia space. More people should be doing just like You. I have 10 acres but most is trees, so I have a quarter acre dedicated to garden and food forest space. :)
I watch food related content especially gardening every day. My motto is 'grow food not lawns', 🥔🥕🥒🥬🥦Kudos! HOA not giving you any grief? Your front yard is awesome.👏🏽👏🏽 It's easy to see a lot of love and care went into planning and layout. You really reap what you sow❣ Btw, RU-vid's algorithms are wishy washy. I would have subbed long ago. 😎
Amen! The world does NOT NEED more lawns! Luckily, I do not have an HOA but my mom does, so I'm very familiar with the craziness. And I'm so glad you found me! 💕

Thank you for sharing. Took me awhile to decide putting my garden on my East front and South side yard. Only spots I get sun because of so many pecan trees.
I am so grateful for your example. I had a front yard garden with everything in it but I was not as together as you. However you have giving me some great ideas for my new homestead. Thank you for your inspiration.
I garden the traditional way ie. in the back yard, but the sun is best in my huge front yard. Love your spunky display in your front yard, gives me the guts to try it myself!
You're so nice Carolyn! Believe me, I WANTED to garden in the backyard, but it was just a cave back there, and it was also a smaller space to boot. So I figured if I was gonna do the front yard, I was gonna OWN it! :-)
Seems like such a silly tip right? LOL. When I read that in the Market Gardener, I was like, WELL DUH, why didn't I think of that before?! Definitely a game-changer!
@@ReSprout I really liked how vibrant the garden is I live in a relatively hot country But very green here And it's very easy to grow everything I pick the leaves and feed the rabbits and there is a very convenient order And I really liked how fragrant everything is in your garden
I'm in Chandler, Az zone 9B. I've got a "sort of" plan for the front yard garden. It is more of a walking food garden with paths covered in wood chips to grow the soil and save water in our desert environment. I say "sort of" because I've still got a lot of work to do to remove rock and create burms near the sidewalk to keep any rainwater run off in our yard. I look forward to the front yard garden to be able to interact with the neighbors. Your front yard garden is so inspiring! I watched the video and love the continuity of design and color. The black acts as a frame for all of the color in the garden. It's perfect! Thank you for the tour! P.S. I'm curious to know if you've inspired any neighbors to plant out their front yards for food. I would love to start a food growing revolution in our neighborhood!
I don't know for SURE since I haven't talked to the two neighbors, but I did notice two other front yard gardens that popped up about a block from me a few years after I set mine up. I love to think I inspired them! 😃
I love your Beautiful Vegetable Garden and you had organized well. The layout of this Garden is Lovely. The Tentrill Garden is very Fantastic to see. Beautiful... 🤩. Congrats....👏🌹 My susgestion for that small Vacant area: You better have a small Green House and the Fruit Trees too ( where ever you find a Gap for it ) 🤣 🤩 Keep Going.... 👍🌹
just found you! I converted our front yard when we moved in (april 2019) and it has brought so much conversation and happiness to our neighbourhood! Its so cool to see someone else did it too! If someone is thinking about it, its time to do it for sure! Excited to see more of your videos :) Cheers from Heather in BC Canada
That is so awesome! I have to say, I've experienced the same thing, and it was a completely unexpected but AMAZING side effect of having a front yard garden. I know so many of my neighbors because of it and have the best conversations.
Fruit trees are the only things you are missing in your garden paradise! It doesn't look like you have any problems seeding so I vote fruit trees! Your garden looks wonderful! Really enjoyed your tour. Thanks for sharing!
I love how clean and organized is your garden. Remain me I should work a little bit harder in mine. LOL. I love 💕 garden since I was a little kid 👧, it’s such a great therapy. Beautiful garden!!
Love your trellis area. If you want any corn harvest, remember that corn is a heavy feeder. It needs lots of nitrogen. Corn also does best when planted in square blocks for better pollination.
Yeah, corn has never done well for me. But I never put it in the best spot and never plant enough, so definitely my fault! It's so hard when you have a small space.
I've thought about doing this since my front yard would be a great area but I was hesitant to do so. It's fairly large and received full sun morning to early afternoon. If I do I will be using containers and grow bags. I'll make trellises for certain vegetables. This would be more doable for me at my age. Thank you for sharing.
Take it slow! More than anything, gardening has taught me the Japanese concept of "kaizen," gradual improvement over time. It's ok to be imperfect. Just strive to do better each time, each season, each sowing, each bed, each harvest, and one day you'll just look at your garden and wonder how the heck you made all that. :-D
Gorgeous setups!! I especially love the trellises. I'm thinking of doing the same concept may try using cattle panels sense I have some. I'll check our the way yiu did yours. Thanks Missouri Wrightchk
Cattle panels would word really well too, and they wouldn't be white, which is one of the drawbacks (I think) of the trellis netting. It clashes a bit with the black structure.
This should answer all your questions on the trellis build! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2MF5QHitZg0.html I think cattle panels would work with this, you would just need a different way of mounting than mine.
I love your food garden, specifically the front one🍎❤ I started a garden at all surrounding yard but I had to stop the one at my front yard cause my neighbor did like it and she turns on my enemy! You just gaive me the courage to keep on my front yard project! Thank you and congrats for your garden.
I thankfully live where there is no HOA. Out of respect to my neighbors I put up a beautiful white picket fence. Then I proceeded to fill the yard with raised beds. Outlined the fence with flowers all the around. Has been the best thing I ever did.
Haha! Yes I do think the neighbors appreciate all my privacy hedges, too. Though I do catch a lot of people peeking through, because they are so fascinated. ;-)
Sophia what is your first frost date where you live? I have been thinking along the same lines lately with my broccoli. I already spinach in the winter and my fall broccoli was in my garden until a month past frost this year and they were in great shape.
I know it's been a while since this comment, but I did actually make two videos on harvesting potatoes! LOVE this garden. We just moved to a place with a fairly plain front lawn. But it gets TONS of sun. We've got hundreds of tulips on the way, some hyacinths, and other flowers. Going to make a veggie garden with pollinator areas planted around. Your garden is a great inspiration!
I have cattle panels to trellis on and although they are sturdy, they are not practical for me to move (because of weight) as I rotate crops ... yours on the other hand would be!!! I think you have made a lovely statement in your front lawn :) I absolutely love the black!
I can see cattle panels being heavy! Try the trellis netting, definitely! It is super strong. I've used most of them for 4-5 seasons now and they take a lot of abuse.
Not sure if you're looking to build this (or something similar), but I just came out with a build video on the trellises using this mesh. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2MF5QHitZg0.html Enjoy!
