🌟 Happy New Year everyone! 🌟 With the whirlwind end to 2023, there is still some exciting content that still needs to go out, starting with the full video of my eventing masterclass at the London Horse Show. Huge thanks to Horse and Country TV for generously sharing this footage, providing a fantastic learning resource for all of us.
In this exclusive masterclass, I had the incredible opportunity to learn from two equestrian luminaries - Olympian Laura Collett and renowned coach Dickie Waygood. Laura Collett, a decorated Olympian, brings a wealth of expertise in eventing, showcasing her remarkable skills in the saddle. Dickie Waygood, with his extensive coaching background, contributes invaluable insights to elevate our understanding of equestrian excellence.
Stay tuned for an upcoming vlog capturing my time in London, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of a huge indoor horse show. I hope you relish this masterclass and look forward to sharing more exciting moments with you soon! 🐎✨

100% agree with this. In my opinion, a lot of young riders are not brave, they are inexperienced and a bit ignorant of the risks. When you have experience under your belt, have had some nasty falls, and actually realise how wrong it can go, it's a lot harder to be brave. Next level is learning and repeating and repeating and repeating systems and methods until you trust them. I can't wait for that bit. So exciting. Love masterclasses like this! ❤❤❤

Wow, how good were you. Its daunting enough being with an Olympic team manager and a very experienced 5☆ event rider, but do do it in a small indoor arena with so many people watching a huge well done. What a brilliant and exciting opportunity ❤😊

Thrilled that you rode with Richard! I did a clinic with him and it changed my riding and improved my confidence tremendously. He's incredible! To be trained by him, in the same arena as one of my favourite riders; Laura Collette, must have been unbelievable! Here's what I noticed: You and Jam belonged there, in that company. You held your own and I was incredibly impressed. You rode very well and Jam was stellar and you produced her from a gangly baby to the confident athlete she is today. I hope you are very, very proud of yourself, your work and your pony because you should be!

For the film makers: I prefer less close ups during the course-pull back a bit so can see the horse jumping the fences to watch strides, bascule, landing etc. Very evident in Meg’s last course. Thank you!

That was brilliant Meg! Very well done! To have a lesson in front of so many people and on TV, you kept calm and did everything Laura did, under a lot of pressure. Dick is a brilliant teacher. The way he explained everything made it so easy to understand. His attention to every detail was amazing. You should be very proud of yourself. 👏👏👏

BTW Meg, you could have flying changes in a week if you work at it. Do that exercise Dickie had you do where you do one step of trot and then canter, but do it from lead to lead (L lead, trot one step, R lead, etc.). In no time you will have a flying change. And it's high time you had them!
@rutherose23

OMG Meg! One pull, just ONE pull the entire session. 👏 I saw a beautifully subtle half halt the first time you came to the second skinny. Even your (only two of these too) 'panic' circles were a considered choice, keeping Jammie balanced and in the same canter instead of turning her away. Don't worry about the hiccups to the second elbow. That's a tough question you've probably never asked of Jammie or yourself before and didn't she do you proud once she understood. 🎉 Forget skipping any part, I kept rewinding to watch bits again. Night and day compared to last year at the same show. ❤

You did great Meg! Jammy tried so hard and is so honest. It is so interesting how riding styles have changed over the years. When I was learning to ride in the 70’s it was all about the crest release and bending forward over the jumps- many old style riders still do this. Now all about looking up and almost standing in the stirrups a bit over the jumps and not throwing yourself forward. Keep looking up! Thanks again for this. ❤

So wonderful to watch this. You are brave. Jam is brave and like I’ve heard so many times from so many coaches through the years. Trust your canter. I’m a far bigger wuss than you but I can see it. See when you let your guard down or is it up? I don’t know but Jammie’s canter is brilliant and you want to go to the reins but you don’t need to. This proves it! You were so gracious and excited and concentrating on every word. Watch it over and over and tell yourself everything is fine. Beautifully done and with an Olympic rider no less. Connie power! Jam is a freaking legend. And so are you, Meg. Honestly, you and she did all that just as well as Laura and her fancy horse, and I would rather have Jam any day of the week. I hope you are really taking the "control the shoulder" thing to heart, coming as it does on the heels of the Brownie lesson where that was also the theme. It's all about the shoulder and keeping the horse straight and balanced on the turns--then the rest just happens! [I will say that I don't know why people can't bother to learn the gender of the horse. I spent the whole thing yelling "SHE!" and "HER!" It's just not that hard.] I am looking forward to Pete's footage as well! The camera person who did this wasn't aware, apparently, that we want to see MEG AND JAMMY ALL THE TIME LOL.

I LOVED this! You and Jam were epic! I’m not the most confident rider in the world when it comes to jumping. I can do very well at home and at competitions where there are a good number of other competitors in my division, so I don’t feel like all eyes are on me. However, when I’ve done big night time classes under the lights (whether it’s a jumper Mini-Prix or a National Hunter Derby-yes, I’m from the U.S.), and there are a lot of spectators, and the announcer does the whole deal of introducing you and your horse, and reading a short bio about your riding experience as you are coming into the arena…that is when I just about pee my pants! 😂 I can have won all of the “normal” daytime classes at the same fence height and similar course set-ups, but as soon as the spotlight is on me and I know I have an audience focused solely on me, my nerves get the best of me, and I feel like I forget how to ride! So HUGE kudos to you for doing this great demonstration event, not only with the pressure of trying to do as well as the 5* rider, but with a large audience there AND the whole thing is televised…. That takes SO much courage!! I’ve watched all of your videos by now (huge fan), so I’m sure that you were very nervous while doing this. However, you appeared very calm, professional, and made it look easy and elegant. That is just fantastic to me! I hope I get to a point where I can conquer my nerves during the “special” jumper classes, which usually have the OTHER added stress of costing a lot to enter bc we are competing for a cash prize. That always ups the ante for me even more, bc I think to myself “I HAVE to do this perfectly, so that I can at LEAST earn back my entry fee!”😂 Of course that just serves to raise my anxiety and I end up riding like a monkey! 😂 So I am so impressed by how calm and well you rode Jam, and how good you both looked! Give yourself a HUGE pat on the back! *Btw, I am a show jumper and hunter jumper rider (yes, hunter jumping classes are a big thing in the US), and I’ve played over the cross country jumps I have on my farm, but binge watching your eventing videos for the last year has made me keen to try eventing for real! I know I’ve got the show jumping and dressage down for lower level eventing, but the cross country phase is going to be my bete noir. But you have really inspired me to try it. ❤

HAPPY NEW YEAR MEG AND JAM!!!!’ Well well done !!! I so enjoy watching your riding accomplishments !!!!! It should not go without mention that one of your strengths ( and there are a fair many) for sure is your ability to listen/understand and then follow through with the instruction presented- that alone speaks volumes- and clearly from the reactions of all the top trainers and riders you have lessoned with, they too see this in you - we all know it is HARD WORK just riding the instruction. So so well done Meg….and Jammy of course !!!!!💪🏼🦄❤️

Such a great session! It seemed like Dickie was really good at boosting your confidence and making sure you could watch Laura do the exercises first so I hope it felt that way. Also as an aside I’ve been watching some of last years vlogmas and your technical riding and ability to get on a strangers horse and get it going nicely has actually improved so much - good luck for this year!
