@BUSHMANandBLUE
@BUSHMANandBLUE 2 года назад
🤔 I don’t. It’s made by ‘buck’ so I’m sure you’ll be able to find it. A great ‘every day carry’ knife although it locks so technically it’s illegal (blame the gangs) but not illegal if you have a purpose for carrying it like in your wild camping kit. Cheers.
@finsejokulhytta9884
@finsejokulhytta9884 2 года назад
If you need two ice Axes because the terrain has got that steep then wrong choice of Crampons, only would need one axe a walkers or Technical, one Axe would get you up a Scottish Grade 1 or 2 winter climb depending on conditions (Technical will last longer if Winter Scrambling and some models you can change the Blade if it wears) approx 50cm - 55cm to keep weight down. Petzl Ride is a Ski Mountaineering Axe, Spike will wear easily on rock when using Axe as third leg also shaft not strong enough to go in cracks in rocks and take weight. I am not being condescending.
@BUSHMANandBLUE
@BUSHMANandBLUE 2 года назад
I’m not mountaineering at all. They are just used as a safety aid and steadying tool just incase. I’ve needed an ice axe a few times and having one as a ground anchor to tie the dog to in an ice capped area or to assist lowering him down then I still have one as a personal steadying tool. I prefer to be as safe as possible just incase. Thanks.

18:58 - when the fog drops a compass is pretty useless. I did once navigate across open moor in fog by sending a friend ahead and telling him left / right to get a rough direction of travel to keep us in a straightish line. a basic tutorial on map & compass work would be useful, though tough to convince young `uns with iphones;) I swear by a garmin gps map64s (226g) when the sh hits the fan, they are made for one job and they will get you home. A guy died on the n.y moors in fog as darkness fell a couple of years ago - probably only a mile or two from safety.

Hi Al. A good informative video covering the essentials to have in your rucksack. One question I would like to ask is, when your fully packed up, what is the weight of the pack? If possible, what would you suggest to be the upper-most weight limit one should carry, bearing in mind, that the lighter the pack, the better?
@BUSHMANandBLUE

Impressively organized kit! How long does it take to stuff all that back into those stuff sacks so many stuff sacks . I just use a 90 liter for winter and cram most in there without sacks as I havent the patience to repack each item but then you lose the mobility with a bulky pack versus the way you have it so nice and neatly packed.

I was there on catbells too on Saturday for my first wild camp. I tried to camp by the summit but my tent wasn't having it in the wind. Pit on my headtorch n packed up rapid and was gonna call it a night but pitched up in the dark a third of the way down where it was more protected. Definitely bringing headphones on the next one though. Hope you had a good one

I noticed in many of your campouts, that you don't use a ground sheet Under your tents. Winter or Summer, I've used a rip-stop 'Space' blanket under my tents. It protects the tent floor from punctures, keep ground moisture from being pushed through the floor tub, and reflects a modicum of warmth back into the floor. It helps at -25C especially!

PS please dont be offended i only want to do what you do and be safe but at a cost that i can afford.x

I totally understand but please understand I am a person with very little money in life. All my kit I have bought in sales baring a few items. A few items are factory seconds. For example my £400 gore-tex jacket I paid £87 for which is the price of a cheap waterproof and my thermarest sleeping bag I bought half price. It has taken me years to collect and refine my kit so that I have a top quality set up. This is where I spend my money in life as the rest of my life is rather frugal. I’ve thought about doing a video on cheaper kit but that would mean I have to go out and buy it which I can’t really justify nor afford that. Just buy the bargains when you can. I would advise to buy better first so you don’t end up having to buy the same item again in the future. Checkout sports pursuit as often you can find a bargain on there. Cheers Rich.

I’m curious why you carry two axes, neither of which is a walking axe, if you are not climbing? If you need one to steady yourself a walking axe is a better tool for the job, perhaps enrol on a winter walking/skills course and learn how to use it? It would make a good video on here and would be no more expensive than two climbing axes.
@BUSHMANandBLUE
@BUSHMANandBLUE 2 года назад
The ride axe is super lightweight (240g) so not used for climbing at all. It’s just a steadying tool but from previous experience with the dog I’ve needed one but possibly two. I can lower him down over snow caps using one as an anchor but I wouldn’t risk not having one in my hand too incase I need to self arrest. Helvellyn on to striding edge is definitely one place I’ve needed them. If I didn’t have the dog or conditions were not too bad I’d only carry one. Thanks.
@jaythorpe2536
@jaythorpe2536 2 года назад
So you carry a rope and know how to use it? Fab! I’m not sure I’d be happy having my own dog out it conditions where I need to lower him over a snow cap? Do you mean cornice? A ski mountaineering axe is less than ideal especially descending the Helvellyn plateau on to Striding. Two axes are totally pointless unless front pointing? I just feel that others watch your channel who are less experienced than you and suddenly think it’s a good idea to go out and buy the wrong tool for the job. Then buy two of them...
