I know this will just get lost in the sea of comments but,, I'm a teenage girl and I have autism so I constantly feel like an inconvenience to my family. but your videos have taught me so much, and I've been inspired to do things like dry parsley from my little herb garden & turn it into parsley powder (which people have been using!!) or bake fresh bread! your videos inspire me to be more self sufficient. I have becomr interested in things like canning and preserving and I've loved plants & gardened for years but this year is the first time I'm trying to grow tomatoes from seedlings. they're getting so big 🌱 plus, these videos are just such a comfort. they're really nice to watch when I'm overwhelmbed. so thank you :-)

People just need to enjoy the videos you bring to us each week, and not be critical on other things they know nothing about. I enjoy that you share you and josh life with us, no body has a perfect home if they do then they have nothing else to do everyday but keeping it clean. But in the world I live in when you hand children out grand children every day things are never perfect and sometimes a bit messy but I don’t mind it just reminds me that it’s a home that is lived in not a house that is not used. I love your cooking videos they hand taught me that I can do anything I set my mind to do. Yes I have messed up on things but you got to keep trying to get things right.

Hey Becky - Just wanted to comment on the 'extra' cinnamon sugar you transferred into a mason jar for future use, and then put in an unrefrigerated drawer. Given you used it to roll raw cookie dough balls in I just thought it prudent to mention the cross contamination (raw egg, uncooked wet flour, etc.) that has now been in contact with the whole batch of cinnamon sugar. I often have left over cinnamon sugar when I make chocolate ginger cookies or snickerdoodles and as someone who doesn't like to waste ingredients, I will take the extra and store it in the freezer, as a way for me to be able to use it safely on the next batch of cookies. Know I mention this not as a criticism but just for your safety. =)

I know not everyone does this, perhaps a bit of an older etiquette, but I thought it was just good or appropriate manners to offer visitors and trade people something when at your house. On a hot day, make sure you provide cold water, cookies, maybe a bit of fruit, to refresh. A little treat for the babysitter. A simple cup of tea. The bonus for trade is that they may be more likely to do a better job, be inclined to help you with something and feel good about their day. It may help with a future endeavor. Isn't it nice to make someone's day a bit brighter; think what they may do for someone else.

If you have a banana, put it in a brown paper bag along with your avocado, close the bag and leave it overnight. The time it takes to ripen depends on how underripe your avocado is. The ethylene gas produced by the banana is trapped in the bag and speeds up the ripening of other fruit.

I've worked over 20 years in restaurants and I just wanted to warn you, technically you are cross-contaminating that cinnamon sugar by rolling your cookies in it and then pouring it back into the container. The cookies have raw eggs in them and the raw eggs have now touched your cinnamon sugar which is now in the jar with the rest of your cinnamon sugar. Next time I would suggest if you make bulk put most of it in the jar and just pour out what you think you're going to need for the cookies so that you don't cross contaminate your food. Especially eggs and raw eggs lots of contaminants are carried in those and you could make yourself extremely sick. I just wouldn't want that to happen to you guys I always recommend to my friends who are avid home chefs, that they take a ServSafe course in food safety. It's what we all have to take in order to work in restaurants but it's also very good information for home chefs to have. You can take the course at home it's only a couple of hours you can do it online and it doesn't cost very much but it teaches you quite a lot about food safety that is useful not just in restaurants but in the home. And with so many people watching you and your techniques it might be a good idea just so that you know you're passing on safe information to your viewers

Another video with some great tips. I get my Korean chili flakes at one of our local Asian markets in Vancouver. They have tons of interesting flavors, noodles and vegies to use in your cooking. I make lots of Kim Chi and use their Thai basil in salads and pesto. I really recommend exploring ethnic markets -- middle eastern, Ukrainian and Hispanic. One of the perks of living in a diverse community.

I do cinnamon sugar using brown sugar instead of white sugar. I do have to put it in my blender and pulse it just a few times because it doesn’t mix easy like white sugar does with the cinnamon. Then I store it in a my spice jar. The brown sugar is a game changer if you love cinnamon sugar!!

KITCHEN TIP: Save citrus rinds and run them through your garbage disposal. The citrus juice and oils will cut through and loosen all the gunk in your disposal. You will have a citrus scented kitchen and a clean disposal! BTW, the citrus rinds will help sharpen your disposal blades. You can also use the citrus rinds with white vinegar to make your own spray cleaner. Just soak the citrus rinds in the vinegar for two weeks or more, strain and add half mixture and half water to to a spray bottle.

Hi Becky. I keep my fresh raw ginger whole in freezer. Then when I want some I just micro plane as mush as I want. It grates up just fine frozen. Pop the rest back in freezer for next time. If you have thick skin or particularly don’t want any skin bits. Just peel before you freeze it. 🌸

I am allergic to cinnamon as well, it makes the roof of my mouth go numb, but that does not stop me from eating cinnamon rolls or snickerdoodles 😂 I used to think that that happened to everyone and we, as a species, just put up with the numbness because cinnamon is good. It took me until my mid 20s to learn that this is a me problem.
@almaremarais2494
@almaremarais2494 Год назад
What precisely of the cinnamon causes your allergic reaction. Doctors do not always specify of they simplify (I know from experience, have 2 in my household with allergies. The cinnamon in the shops or mass production is Cassia (fake cinnamon) because it is much cheaper. The Ceylon Cinnamon (true cinnamon) is much more expensive. Both have Coumarin but the Cassia Cinnamon has a 5 - 8% Coumarin count where the Ceylon Cinnamon has a 0.04% count. So please ask you doctor precisely thatbis the cause of the allergies. Had a doctor tell me once when I questioned her diagnosis and treatment that she is the doctor and I'm only the mother do I must just shut-up and do as she says. Last she saw of me.

Better Texas Cavier Ingredients: Dressing: ACV, EVOO, Sugar/honey Black eyed peas (essential to the historical recipe), Black Beans, Red Onion, Green Chili's, Pimentos, White Shoepeg Corn, Multi-color bell peppers I wouldn't use the fresh tomato or avocado because it would really limit the shelf life, or I'd only put that in what could be consumed in that setting.

Your extra cinnamon and sugar mixture has raw egg in it from the uncooked dough. You might not want to save that. If you pour part of it in a smaller bowl, then you could have safely saved the extra.
