Hi my loves, welcome back to my channel. So todays video is a little bit different, I've been keeping everyone updated on instagram about my surgery but i never went into detail or even explained what i was having done. Todays video is me explaining where I've been the last 2 months and my experience with gastric sleeve surgery, and unfortunately a complication i had because of surgery. I hope this video is extremely helpful and gives you a general idea of the surgery. I really tried to go into detail without getting too long LOL whoops 40 min video oh well lol. but I've decided to do monthly updates and to make separate videos regarding each aspect of the surgery (before, after and during) to give you a better and more informed about the topic. I was nervous to even make a video about this because everyone has their own opinion and a lot of people have mean comments and thoughts about the surgery, but then i realized; i do not care one bit about anyones opinions. I did this for myself, my future and my health & thats all that matters! Before i had the surgery, i was on youtube looking up peoples experience with their surgery and how it was for them and it was really helpful and gave me more of an idea since they also had it & thats why i decided to make this video because i know there are people out there who are also searching for these types of videos wanting to know more information and wanting to see peoples experience with it. So i hope if you found me by searching for this video, i hope it was helpful and let me know down below what other videos regarding gastric sleeve surgery you'd like to see. Thank goodness I didn't see this video before surgery, i wouldn't have got it. I appreciate the honesty. I'm thankful my experience was smooth with minimal pain.

Hi Ashley! I appreciate you sharing your experience with the gastric sleeve. I have watched so many videos to see the difference experiences different people have had with VSG. My original surgery date was July 13th of this year but it had to postponed to August 24th of this month due to financial reasons. I too have a great surgeon and he was willing to work with me. Of course I had to do interview and assessment over and have one last meeting with the surgeon before my surgery. I really excited for this experience. My co-workers and my family are so supportive, especially my daughter's. They know how long I wanted this surgery. I started my clear liquid diet on July 1st and even though my surgery date was changed I continued with my diet. So far I'm down 32lbs. I am just so excited and happy that this is finally happening after all this time. I noticed in the videos that I've watched a lot of people talk about the puree diet but I don't have to do that and I'm glad about that. After my surgery I do the clear and then I move on to full liquid, then I believe it's on to soft diet. Thanks again for sharing and blessings on the rest of your journey.

I had the sleeve and seriously when I woke up post op, I had no pain. I was up in the bathroom and walking the ward within a few hours. No pain meds, just gas pain and nausea. Most don’t experience much pain at all and we aren’t lying about it!! Sorry about your experience. That’s not generally how it goes post op. Hope you’re feeling better.

Laying in bed at Mexico Bariatric center in Tijuana 2 days post op and I’m going thru all of this struggling I can barely walk I’m dizzy nauseated and In pain this is hard kinda regretting it …the staff and doctors here is whats keeping my spirits lifted

I had gastric sleeve and I only had a small amount of gas pain for a couple of days. I had no stomach pain. I was super tired though. Never needed pain meds or nausea meds.

My VSG surgeon gave me a drain at the same time as the surgery and it was in for 2 weeks. That prevented this complication but I have to say, the drain was BY FAR the worst part of the whole process for me. I hated it so much. Now I FINALLY understand why he did it and made it stay in so long.

I had the sleeve last week and the gas pain was one of the most excruciating things I’ve experienced, and I’ve had 2 kids , a kidney stone and a hysterectomy. Hope you’re doing well now ❤️

I had mine Tuesday and that gas pain was no joke. I instantly asked myself WHAT DID YOU DO🤦🏾‍♀️. it's been 5 days and I'm struggling with tryna figure out if I'm full and I notice I'm getting hungry. Now I'm questioning did they even do anything because how am I hungry so fast 🙄

@@ItsYLnotYO I think that’s normal I just “tried” to sip my water more often and it kinda curbs my appetite. I’m almost 3 months out , I’ve lost 51 pounds and I’m still having issues with my water intake . This is a difficult surgery , there is nothing easy about it ! Hope you’re doing well . You’ve got this !!

I also have a sleeve and I’ve never thrown up, and I drink a few gulps at the same time. everybody’s different so be careful with the comments that it will make you throw up everyone’s different. You have to remember that every experience is different. I have not had any of these experiences. Nothing but excellent results. No pain no throwing up. No hematoma I’m sorry about your experience, but mine was wonderful, yes it’s good to put out there. All the things that can happen.

Thanks for sharing. I just had my sleeve on the 25th. Thankfully I didn’t experience any of the pain you did. I only felt nauseous, and after vomiting, my stomach would hurt of course since I was using my stomach muscles.

I’m from Australia, my process from the decision to get surgery and surgery day was six weeks. I had no complications, no nausea and very little pain.

Just had my surgery yesterday 2/4/19 ... I legit only had abdominal pain getting up and my throat was sore. No nausea or vomiting no gas pain.They had me eating ice chips and drinking water straight away. The no pain might have been due to the fact that they medicated me for that stuff before I went in to surgery...

You see I'm planning on having it done but when you hear all of the things they make you go thru and it taking up to a year to get it done. It gets me discouraged. I mean you don't have to have this much for open heart surgery and a lot of others. Does anyone else feel like the wait is almost too much.???

@@Aleydahhh in Michigan city Indiana where I live its a brand new weight loss clinic. You know I've got friends all taking these injections from their doctors and loosing crazy weight There's like 4 different shots. Started out as a diabetic meds but they are being used for weight loss. I talk to a girl shes lost 37 pounds in 2 months. But I have anthem Hoosier healthweiss its the medicaid state ins. They cover weight loss but not the shots

Wow I had a gastric bypass in November and my process in Australia was not as convoluted as yours in the USA. We’re you not given pain relief ? I was put on a drip to combat dehydration and was able to sip water and was later given soup and a chocolate protein drink. I also pre made pumpkin and lentil soup which was liquidised and I added protein powder. The only complication I had was an almond milk coffee latte and 2 hrs later dumping occurred.

Had Gastric Bypass on 3/7 problems-gallbladder removal 3/25 more problems in hospital 4/11-4/16. A little better but now i may have a stricture. Upper GI scheduled 4/29. This has all been very difficult....... keep me in your prayers

4 days post op from gastric bypass surgery. Shit hurts. I don’t care what anyone tries to say, it HURTS and you’re in pain. The gas pains are ridiculous, the incisions burn after the gas has dissipated and removing the drain tube at discharge time….is the worst feeling I’ve experienced. I’m feeling much better today but don’t let anyone tell you bariatric surgery isn’t painful. I listened to so many people try and tell me that and I completely underestimated how much it would hurt.

@@ashleyhawat bullshit! I have a high pain tolerance. I’ve had three natural childbirths, one without an epidural. It is painful. It’s not so intense that you can’t handle it but pain is involved! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks for sharing your story! I am so on the fence about getting this surgery though. Been thinking about weight loss surgery for years. But I'm nervous because I am guessing this is a newer surgery. Not any long term studies of the long term effects or complications that could arise. Guess I need to decide if the benefits out weigh the risks which is hard when we don't really know all the possible long term risks. It just sounds really bad idea to remove most of your stomach. But I do really need to lose weight. Also kind of worried because majority of the time I eat is not cuz I'm hungry but because I am bored or stressed out.

I am 4 days post op from gastric bypass surgery. My doctor let me pick but suggested the bypass! Thankful that I listened to his advice. I feel pretty good so far! A little pain but nothing out of control.

So she suggested the Roux en y mainly because I have severe gastric issues and this one was the very best option for me to have it reversed and to lose the most weight.

It was not painful for me. It was the gas that was painful. It all depends on the operation. The best thing to do is the pre op - shrink the liver. I was up and walking too

I wish with this surgery it’s the same process because a lot of the stuff you said I never had to do like the stomach sample and the pain you had to go through. Just shows different doctors do different things.

Everyone's insurance requires different things. I have SurgeryPlus and they are amazing because they have no requirements and cover it 100%. So for me my process is: Consult w MD (approved) Psych eval (passed) 2 diet classes (completed) Preop testing (tomorrow) Labs (tomorrow) Sleep study (pending) Then schedule surgery and do 2 week preop diet.

I had my sleeve done on 7/19/21. I have not had solid food since 6/30/21. Was on liquid diet from 7/1-7/17, nothing the weekend before surgery. Since surgery I have not been able to eat or drink. I have a tear and am on a PIC line for nutrition and have an epigastric drain. It's been over a month and I haven't been able to eat or drink anything. It's been a total nightmare. I have searched all over for other people who have had these types of complications to understand it better. I too would have never done this had I known I would have to go through this. I'm sorry you too are suffering this way.

Hi Andrea I feel the same I had surgery Nov 16 2021 and I am over a month and 3 weeks I have a awful taste in my mouth I can’t eat anything every thing taste horrible. I been in the hospital one time for dehydration. I am trying my best to stay positive. I don’t even want to look at food every thing taste horrible it leave such a nasty taste in my mouth no matter how many times I brush the taste is there I am always feeling nauseous and my stomach is completely empty which affect my sleep. I have tried everything. I trying not to regret this and I am praying for God to please restore my tastes and take this taste out of my tongue. I wish you the best. I feel awful. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Had the same surgery and had none of these painful experiences close to zero pain.. it definitely depends on your pain threshold you don’t seem to have a lot of pain tolerance lol

Hi girlie! It was a 6 month process. I had to go to a nutritionist once a month then I had to see a psychologist then I had to have an endoscopy

I just had my sleeve on 1/7/22 everything was going great so I thought until I started to get pain under my left rib called my dr he said maybe I have been drinking to fast and I have air take smaller and slower sips ok. Next day 1/19/22 worst day I couldn't get out of bed called the Dr he said go to the Er I'm sending you information CT scan I wait in the er for 4hrs they give me pain medication it really helped no down for CT I have a Leak and I'm being admitted dr comes in next morning and said it looks like a leak but really tiny I don't want to do surgery if I don't have to (I agree) everything comes back good on my labs Monday I'm released to go home Friday comes and I'm feeling bad again very nauseous can't eat can't drink call the dr go straight to radiology for CT scan I did just that CT scan is run and then just wait in the waiting room we need to call your dr. We'll I'm being re admitted to the hospital I have a JP tube with a bag draing all of this yuck out of me and today 2/2/22 I get a picc line put in so I can get my nutrition that I need so now I'm here still at the hospital until the 2/8/22 it's been a real roller coaster for me.

Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that FREAKS me OUT!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

Hi love, congrats on getting the surgery and good luck xo Going under can be pretty nerve racking, but its just in your head! Before they bring you to the room, the doctor will come and speak to you about going under and everything. You literally just fall asleep and don't remember or feel anything. When i woke up I felt really sore and nauseous and tired. hope this was helpful xo

Means you have good insurance lol most insurance require 6 months. Some 3 months. Some even 8 months!

Thank you for being honest with all your pain. I'm so sorry you experienced that and very proud of you for hanging in there and being so brave. You are a good example for me and I'm 68 with some fears about it all. I'm excited too about my decision to choose the surgery and believe God will help me get through it, but I'm still somewhat anxious about this life changing experience!!! I got my surgery on 06/14/21. Everything was going great until after my second week follow up. I started having lower back and abdominal pain. I texted my doctor and he said it wasn’t normal. I got a CT scan and it revealed there’s fluid outside my sleeve. The started me on antibiotics and I have to stay in the hospital for three days. My doctor wants to insert a PICC line and keep it for a month. Honestly worst pain ever. Will see what they end up doing with the leakage. Thank you for sharing your story.

Can you update on your leakage issues when you have the opportunity to? Did they not close you up properly? I hope it wasn’t serious and that it was resolved quickly; & you’re healing well.

It’s only a long process for patients using insurance. I’m self pay and I was able to skip a lot of the steps outlined in the video. I did meet my surgeon twice, once for consult and second time to confirm the surgery date and go over important information. I did not get a biopsy either.

Thank you so much for sharing and being honest. I got bypass on 10/20/20. I was in icu for a week after because i couldn't breathe on my own. It's been 3 weeks and I'm still in hella pain. I feel alone. I feel like this shouldn't be normal. I feel defeated. Please do you have any advice? I do ice compress. I wear the stomach band. I try hot pad sometimes. Everything that touches it, every movement, everything hurts.

I really want sleeve but I'm scared I'll need gastric reflux meds. I don't need them now. Also, no carbonated drinks? Still this is a health issue for me and I'm willing to turn in half my stomach to not need to over eat anymore. I tend to get seriously depressed with weight gain so not being hungry is good to me! Great vid.

The gastric sleeve does not eliminate hunger. I had it two months ago. I also started off with heartburn, and since the surgery I have gotten off my heartburn medication every surgery is different for everybody. I’ve had nothing but an excellent experience however, you do still get hungry and it’s all about controlling yourself with food. It’s not a quick fix it just a tool like everybody says.

Listen I’m stressed. I had surgery Jan 3 2021. Had gastric bypass. Doctors told me my gerd will be gone. The surgery gave me major acid reflux. Now I’m in the hospital 5 days. Picc line for nutrition. Malnourished. Ughhhh. I honestly regret it.

I’m so sorry that’s happening to you, my doctor doesn’t even do bypass anymore only sleeve because there have been so many complications with bypass. I’m so sorry that it’s happening with you! I pray for a speedy recovery for you!!

I did my in Mexico they don’t ask u anything just if u suffer from any illness and I pay then boom done is been a year and 4 of my family have done already here in the USA they ask too much

With my insurance, I only have to be under a doctor's care with a weight loss plan for 3 months, psych eval, and sleep apnea report. 1 visit with Nutritionist.

I just did mine yesterday I been walking since yesterday right after but I haven't pass no gas and yes it is painful just the side under my ribs I feel the gas and the little machine where you blow air it's so hard bcz of the air I have why did I do this to my self 😭😭😭

I was having a super crap day, but watching random videos to distract myself, because I’ve been looking into the sleeve and wanted something raw and real since a lot of people put such a positively magical spin on the surgery. And honestly the cringy (and funny) way you were saying endoscopy SENT me. I never want to seem like I’m putting other people down, but I guess that’s what happened here, so I apologize. Your video was informative, raw, real, emotional, and powerful. I thank you for the real ness of the video and not being scared to be open.

3 weeks out .. not much pain at all... But if you've ever had a C-section or your tubes tied this is much less pain.

I just started my seven month process before the actual surgery. Can't wait to get my surgery date. I have to have 7 visits with my general doctor as well as a visit with the nutritionist and all that Jazz 😭

Thank you very month, there’s no way to know for sure if it would of been prevented but I do believe it could of been if I had the drain from the start. Which is usually the case. My doctor stopped doing it 3 years ago and he said I was the first one to get a hematoma :/

Rambles on too much unnecessarily & take forever to get to the point. Even when you did, nothing was learned. Got put off in the beginning and couldn’t be bothered to carry on.
