Shout out to my mom being suprised every time I say I have a girlfriend 🤙 babes i came out 12 years ago in ur passenger seat when u picked me up from taekwondo classes why we yellin
Sorry to tell you, the teacher screaming like that to shut everyone up is not a bit. There’s always a teacher that does that. It’s just part of British schooling culture.
The thing with Kit (Nick Nelson's actor) being forced to come out was so disgusting. He made a tiktok with his *best friend* who happens to be a girl, and these toxic stans started berating him for it. It was so infuriating! They call themselves Heartstopper fans but decided to act that way
It was sad, but I also understand the public's perspective. All the actors were openly LGBT except for him and he was getting more attention than any of them (which was also because of his looks, but still). It felt like they made a show for LGBT people but the media still found a way to focus on him, which would be very problematic if he was straight. Basically, people needed to know for certain if he was part of our community or just a straight guy taking our spot.
@@erikperhs_no one is obligated to information about anyone’s sexuality. it doesn’t matter if they are “a straight person taking our spots” because a) not everyone has their sexuality figured out and b) it’s acting.
I like that Elle got kinda catty, shows tend to portray trans characters purely as saints or villains so it’s nice to see one who is just being a teenage girl with moods and feelings. And I like that their issue is not cos of her being trans at all.
I feel like when people rush to defend these characters by saying they're not actually being catty/moody/unfair whatever, I'm always like "no, you don't understand, that just means they're actually a good complex character!" We don't need everyone to be an angel!
@@sarahpowell6617 I just.. disagree because nothing about her behavior reads as 'catty' to me. She's realistic in her problems with communicating and maybe being more assertive, but like idk if I have different understanding of 'catty' than y'all thats just not how she comes across to me.
i don't think she got catty at all? she got understandably upset when tao changed his entire demeanor and then lashed out at her. ofc, the awkward date was done for her and he didn't mean to lash out at her, but i also wouldn't want to date my friend anymore after he acted like that towards me.
I was so surprised when I found out people hated Mr Farouk when he was introduced 😂😂 I always just saw him as the grumpy/strict teacher. And honestly I found him really refreshing in a show where every “good” character has to be super nice and wholesome and every “bad” character has to be the villain from an 80s movie. Like, Mr Farouk is grumpy and withdrawn AND deserving of love ❤
Being strict is one thing. Intimidating your students by aggressivly yelling at them is another. I was also really suprised by the lack of in universe critique for his behaviour (quite the opposite actually, Mr. Art teacher seemed to like it?). Is that normal behaviour for teachers?? Other than the shouting, I also really liked the character and also the nuances
@@laurendavis4584 Really? What's up with that, you have a theory why that's so normal in england? I mean not like I have never heard a teacher yell, but i would'nt consider it normal at all
@@LW114YT Student behaviour in schools here is kinda wild, idk if it's bad in the us too, but honestly the most unrealistic thing about his scenes is that people actually stopped talking after he shouted. I feel so bad for most teachers here they don't deserve it for what they're paid lmao
tao is my ultimate kin, everything from the low self esteem, the jealousy, the insecurities i was frankly bamboozled because ive never seen a character hit THIS close to home my gosh it was a moment for me witnessing his whole character arc😍
The number of people who are shocked at Charlie's parents banning Nick from sleepovers is WILD to me.. like maybe it's just cause I grew up religious but sexuality doesn't even have anything to do with it. My parents would never have let my so sleep over, or let me go to a coed sleepover at all for that matter
Well, I've also heard of parents applying the same standards/rules to sleepovers after their kids come out as gay (i.e. no sleepovers with the gender you're attracted to), but that seems especially unfair and presumptuous if they're bi/pan, like sorry kid you're sleeping alone lol. Meanwhile if you're ace I guess you can just invite everyone around to your house? The logic behind it doesn't really make sense. 😂
My parents aren't even religious and I feel like they would have had similar rules if I had a partner in high school, regardless of gender. Would find it weird as a parent to let my kid's partner sleep over if I thought they were going to have sex in the room next door, just for awkwardness sake.
It's always weird cause neither kid can consent, and as parents you're the ones who consent for your kid to do something when they can't consent for themselves. So if two groups of parents know for a fact that their kids are in a relationship, they technically are the ones who have some level of responsibility if their child engages with another sexually. If anything goes wrong or any abuse of one child occurs during the encounter, accountability gets really blurry, and I don't blame parents for at least wanting to deter that mess. Not every kid can be turned into a respectful human with just a few lectures. I've heard of some youth that take the whole "do everything while you can legally get away with it" approach, which is in itself a dangerous game being played.
Seeing the lesbian reactions to Mr. Farouk and the gay reactions to Mr. Farouk are so funny because let me just tell you, this man can scream at me whenever he wants.
I dont like chars parents but they were kinda right about homework thing. He spent his time helping nick anyway and forgot his own grades and homeworks and that is not okay. He doesnt now how to balance his school and relationship.
Okay the Tao and Elle drama felt realistic to me!! When I was a teen all of my ideas about dating were from movies and books that heavily romanticized everything instantly being perfect and magical once the couple got together. It felt like Tao and Elle had a mutual reaction of “this wasn’t effortlessly perfect so obviously it will never work”. Also I think them being best friends raised the stakes exponentially and made them quicker to be like “oh let’s just forget it.” and then they figured it out anyways!!
im glad it was resolved quickly!! i DO think tho that they gave up sooo quickly tho LOL i think it wouldve made more sense if there were more examples of them being awkward rather than just 1 movie date then they toss in the towel
I kinda wondered if they were setting her up to potentially be bi because the "ally-to-bi-actually" pipeline is still real and thriving. Also both of her guy crushes (and possible girl crush) are bi so perhaps she's just subconsciously finding her people lol. Could maybe see her as demi seeing as she fell for two guys who she'd been friends with for years but hey, if you can't overthink anything then what do we live for? 🤷😅
In Imogen’s defense Charlie liked Ben too at one point, although that ended horribly. Feel bad Imogen’s keep taking these L’s with her crushes 😔, first Nick being into Charlie and now creeper Ben. Things need to pan out for my girl. I just want everything to work out for the girls in this show 😖.
@@aobakwekeatlhomile8226 oh no that wasn’t intentional but I see it now that you pointed it out 😅😂. If she is I’m looking forward to the pan x bi solidarity between her and nick.
I hate that idea, actually. It feeds the idea that lesbians only date women because they didn't find the right man AND deprives us from seeing at least 1 cis/straight relationship.
@@erikperhs_ about your first point, I get what you mean but I don't necessarily agree. Often women, especially teenagers, don't have their sexuality figured out right away and get into hetero relationships, only to realize later that they're not into men at all. Often that is because of comp het. And even if someone figures out they're a lesbian after having dated men, it doesn't make them any less of a lesbian. Of course, lesbians are not lesbians because they can't find the right man, in fact, their sexuality has nothing to do with men at all. To your second point, again I see what you mean, but cis/hetero relationships are not underrepresented in media, they're literally everywhere. Heartstopper is a place for representation for all, yes, but it's main objective is not representing straight couples and their struggles. Besides, there is a straight couple in the show, Tao and Elle. I hope none of that came off rude, I just wanted to explain my opinion on this Edit: oh also forgot to mention, Imogen can just as well be bi, pan, queer, unlabelled, etc. She can like both boys and girls and that would be completely valid (and still has nothing do with men)
Honestly Elle views Tao's effort as "changing" which is really hurtful especially when Tao already feels like he isn't enough. I was offended with Tao but I need to remember that she is young too. None of them are perfect.
If both of you have read the comics, be nice to Mr. Farouk. The “ugly” comment was uncalled for. It was study hall for their standardized test they take at the end of the year. He’s just a bit strict. On the bus, he shouted “QUIET” because Mr. Ajayi was trying to talk to the kids on the bus. Tao and Elle just felt the pressure of others’ expectations to let things happen organically. Good that they landed back on being comfortable with one another. Tao’s “olive branch” apple juice sealed the deal lol.
Im SO excited to watch this. Honestly this season made me so sad. Their friend group and relationships are so sweet and supportive and I wish I had that. Not only that, but they’re just so happy and experiencing these amazing things that I feel like I’ve missed out on in life. But otherwise it’s a beautiful pure depiction of queer love and I’m so happy it exists.
@@bug688 yeah, it would be awesome having a ace sexy vilan that rejects everyone but we always got the freak that has no social skills and hate the idea of kissing and having sex
The thing is I completely agree with Charlie’s mom with the whole ban thing. Like if he really wanted to see him, he could’ve finished the coursework that day! She most likely would’ve let him see him afterwards.
Mr Farouk slander in this video is so funny to me because I called what happens later in the season literally from the trailers ;D No hate to you - pure love!
I think the Heartstopper effect needs to be researched and studied because the clutch that this show has on me is spooky dooky. Anywaysss... can't wait for part two. LGBTQ+ make your stand ✊✊
I’m sorry, but as someone who did History for GCSE I know for a FACT that the coursework essay could be completed in a weekend if he tried. Like I’m sorry if I were him I’d just be like “Okay, fine. I’ll finish it this weekend.” IT WOULDNT BE THAT LONG IT WOUOD BE LIKE A COUPLE DAYS! And honestly I hate codependent couples so I would think “Ya maybe we are doing a bit too much and I need to adjust carefully to this new version of my life” idk maybe I was just a an old man at 15
to be fair i think with Charlie’s obsession with Nick having the perfect coming out (setting up for his mental illness ahem - don’t know if you’ve read the comics so i won’t spoil it further) and the stress that comes with it, I think that coursework angle was supposed to be telling us that bigger forces are at play and interfering with his regular life stuff. like yeah to us and his parents it’s supposed to look like he’s slacking off because of New Boyfriend Glow, but he only ever seems to disobey the rule to go see Nick when Nick is upset, not just because they want to make out or whatever. so the way I see it Charlie feels responsible for Nick, his perfectionism about it is kicking in and consuming his energy, his eating pattern is acting up, and the energy it takes to cope with that is being diverted from his coursework. (Typically I’m on your side though tbh, as a closeted aroace and a nerd growing up, I would’ve absolutely not understood why any kissing is worth slacking off on. But I was also the kid who would’ve easily bailed on her own homework to help someone in distress, so I DO understand Charlie in that regard.)
Exactly! It made no sense to me. Why not just spend a day or two on the essay and then spend as much time as you want with your boyfriend instead of sneaking out/getting in trouble/possibly failing classes and exams
Mr. Farouk is that angry teacher that we hate when we're young, but then we grow up and start to know them a little bit more and understand they're just strict in the outside but caring in the inside
Simply obsessed with the fact that when your channel was just getting started you were always like “yeah I’m straight” but we all knew and now here you are 💕. And ALSO! Watching your channel grow and thrive has been such an absolute joy and it always makes me so emotional because you deserve it!!!
Last year I watched your reaction and I was single and very much like "aw, this is all so nice and soft, I hope this could be me." And then!!! I season two came out and I got to watch it with my girlfriend!! I told her about the full circle moment so we are watching this season two reaction together :) Yay for wlw!!!!!
"But we're mentally ill and emotionally unstable" is the most relatable title you've ever done. That was like, me when I watched Nimona on Netflix. Nearly cried multiple times because the message and theme of that movie has been on my mind a lot, in my private life.
I did a marathon of Season Two with my friends and literally cried five times and teared up even more. The aroace rep really made me feel so seen so tears were a given 😅🍂
Cindy: "I'm not seeing any studying going on." Me: Cindy, what are you saying? Nick is clearly studying Charlie's lips. He seems to be very interested in the subject.
22:16 it is fucking stupid. I agree. In the original webtoon, they were still in the closet, and Tao still did not know they were dating. That was the incentive for Tao to split them up to give Charlie a break. When Tao finally found out they were dating, he didn't mind them sleeping together. The issue, though, is that they did the "reveal to Tao we're dating" storyline earlier in the show at the end of season 1 instead of the Paris trip in the books. Now it just doesn't make as much sense for Tao wanting to split them up.
as a bi person, nicks character was so relatable for me :( i loved season 2 so much! fav season definitely. ps: omfg being an australian studient- its so fun hearing them refer to years as "grades" cause thats the same with us too!!
I remember when I was first watching season 2, and Imogen said she liked Ben, I was just like, "Oh no... Imogen, you poor sweet summer child... You have no idea."
it's not actually a classroom it's a study thing for British exams so they aren't in the classrooms. also they film in an actual school so the budget for the school isn't really a problem.
Not them hating on the poor teacher. I'd love to see them tasked with chaperoning a bunch of teenagers on a field trip☠ He's a nice guy and they even show it in these episodes, but teens don't know when to shut up and listen sometimes. He's not mean, he's just on task.
"Nick speaking the language of my colonizers" same energy as me being disappointed Charlie was scoring low in Spanish and then being okay with him scoring low (in the language of *my* colonizers)
This is ICONIC. The fact that you both captured all of the moments I felt while watching this series while still making it comedic warms my soul so much❤️❤️
13:50 I cannot believe there wasn't a comment on the absolute side eye the other two boys gave Christian when he said that bc we all know damn well they were thinking "you two are so obvious so you can just tell us" until christian blew it for them
