Phew, this was quite an undertaking getting this video completed on time! If only we had a time machine! Big thanks to Devin for working overtime to get it done. This was a lot of fun making, and we all hope you enjoy watching along with us. @@littlesparrow303 I saw back to the future in the drive thru when I was 5 with my, brothers and cousins...I remember I sat on top on my dad's car and the drive thru was packed, I was already a Michael J Fox fan due to family ties plus they played Teen Wolf as a double feature (my favorite movie of all time along with back to the future) Great 80s times
You guys should have seasons of my friend watches… that way you’re not burning Matt out. He can have time and this time you’re in season 2… if that makes sense
I really like this idea. Especially since Matt's reason for leaving (AFAIK) is because it was taking up too much of the time he had set aside for the things he wanted to do with his own channel.
@@ilovejettrooper5922 exactly, he didn’t even look like he was into it anymore. Felt more like a chore to him than what it used to be. But hey, hopefully they listen to us and do something that helps utilize his time so he can help his channel.
This has been my favorite video you guys have made. Thank you so much for doing Back to The Future, one of my favorite movies that I would rent over and over again back when we still had movie rentals.
Loved this, very nice doing it in the theater. One of my all time favorite movies, can’t believe Jen is American and did not see it, watching this movie always takes me back to my childhood in NC.
I don't know how long they planned this and worked for it, but that opening "skit" was impressive. Love it! (And now gonna watch the rest of the video.)
I saw BTTF in theaters when it came out in 1985... I was 17. The movie was the talk of my h.s. It drove us all crazy to wait for part two and had to see that in theaters as well. I'm so happy this classic is still being viewed today and glad to see you all loving it as much as I do.
MFW is returning!!! Jen FINALLY saw BTTF!!! You're engaged!!! Congrats!! I'm thrilled ALL around! Nice job Devon with the VFX, super amazing!! This trilogy is one of my all time favs, and it and Star Wars are my earliest movie memories as a kid born in 85. I remember seeing part 1 and then 3 of BTTF, and not caring it was out of order because each movie is an adventure. I never want a reboot. I've toyed with the spinoff idea, have MJFox pass the torch or something, but regardless whether it happens or not, my question is: if a time machine was made in our day, what vehicle would you envision they use instead of a DeLorean? Tesla (mainly aluminum panels, prod placement, "this sucker's electrical")?
@@DMFX1 It was awesome man. Your work is exemplary. And the entire sequence was just so much fun - the VFX (obviously), the dialogue, the story, the music... everything just worked so well together. Are you guys going to make bigger projects together? Holden has real talent to envision all of this and everyone who contributes is top-notch, so I really hope you all are going to take this even further. I wish I could be a part of the journey.
I was 17 when this movie came out, and seeing it in 1985 we ALL got the Libyans part, as well as the references to Ronald Reagan so much. Libya and Grenada were the first military missions we did post Vietnam and Iran Hostage Crisis, so Americans had a BIG thrill finally winning a conflict after so many years.
I'm very very very happy that Matt is coming back, but I hope everything is alright with him. He left to work on personal things like his own channel, so I hope he's not coming back because all that fell apart. I hope he's doing well with his own stuff and is back because he's able to strike a balance.
Even though you're bringing back My Friend Watches, I REALLY hope My Girlfriend Watches doesn't take a backseat. I like the videos of just the two of you. I feel like something is taken away when it's a larger crowd.
Im still blown away you live in pensacola and ive been watching for year and never knew you were 40 minutes away from where i live. What a small world love the content
A lot of people have already watched BTTF by now. Some people have watched it for the first time in 2021. But few people could probably say they watched it first in 2021, AND in the theater! I never got to see it in the theater and wish I could when the anniversary release was out.
Grew up watching the trilogy (i remember a baby sitter brought her vhs of the first film and i watched it with her and my brother). I saw the trilogy in theaters 6 years ago, as part of a triple feature that a theater was doing as part of the date in bttf 2 (October 25, 2015)
Dude, I seriously thought you’d come all the way to Puente Hills to film that opening bit. Turns out all malls look the same at night. I went to that mall for years before I found out it was the filming location.
Funny thing is, they never returned to the original timeline. Usually that is the goal with movies with messed up timelines. But in this case it was a different timeline that brought the happy end, well except for Biff of course.
I was already born when the movie came out, but I was still little so obviously not to be able to go. I can imagine how awesome it was to see this in the theater!! It's always been one of my favorites!
How Did she miss all these? Im doing this with 80s 90s and early 2000s movies with my nephew, and terminator 1 and 2 blew his mind, especially since he came in completely cold to it
Theory: holden's first time travel was before matt was born to tell his parents to name him matt, just so he could parody back to the future by calling him "matty"
As I watched it, I was just thinking how amazing it is that all that could be done on, essentially, a home computer now. I’m sure it took a good deal more effort in 1984🤣
You can see my face at the end of this! This was a MASSIVE undertaking, and what an absolute blast it was to work on! Start to finish, I feel like this video is absolute gold. I hope you all enjoy the video!
Ngl teared up when they said my friend watches is returning. I’ve been here since the beginning with Star Wars and I made it through all the marvel, evil dead, The Room, and so much more. Man I’m so happy to see the gang back hoping for many more friend watches
“Great Scott!!!” Of all the movies she missed in her life how could she have missed this one! In the mid to late 80’s this one of the biggest franchises all the kids at school were talking about it and quoting it. I am so excited to see her watch this. I believe she is going to love it knowing her taste in movies now. ***Edit I love watching these soo much. I had so many memories come flooding back. Jen is slowly being consumed by the geek culture. One of us! One of Us!
Not from the US, but I also haven't seen this one. Been holding it back for so long I might just actually watch it so I can also watch this reaction lol
@@Fsudryden one day people will realize that your own personal anecdote about you and people you know doesn't equate to other people. Literally at all. People of a certain age grew up with this movie it was on all the time. You had to actively ignore the movie to not see it. Past a certain age, that was far less of a thing. You can't expect the same thing from younger people where they have to actively seek it out, have it shown to them or have interest. These 80s movies do not mean the same to everybody.
@@popculturewatch8689 I never once made fun of anyone who has not seen this movie. In fact I find it exciting when someone hasn’t seen a movie that’s wildly popular because it might mean I get to educate someone about that. To me that’s exciting.
@@wsh5965 yeah it was more like am I right? but it's such a popular saying that it's almost colloquial which is why I figured I didnt need the punctuation. yikes.
I appreciate that, friend! This one was insane between the editing all through last night into this morning as well as the past week working on the CGI
Such a fun skit at the start, I’m such a sucker for time travel stories and you guys nailed it by stitching the clips in a way that felt like you were actually there!
When Matt left I wasn’t surprised because it felt like he didn’t want to be there ever since the end of the MCU and it was nice with Jen actually enjoying the movies she watched. Hopefully Matt is refreshed and ready to start enjoying movies again!
Yeah i think doing the DC movies was a mistake. After watching the MCU they just are sort of disappointing. Hopefully they don’t feel so pressured do the my friends as often and only do it when they have a really good movie to do.
@@haabat1342 it was. i would add the first wonder woman to that list as well. I just don't think the DC movies have as much crossover appeal as the MCU. Comic fans like the Snyder Cut. Non-fans? I dunno. The marvel movies seem to grab a larger audience and get them invested. We saw it in real time with Matt.
"Tell me how you two met" "Well, Biff, the guy who waxes our car, was sexually assaulting me, after I had made out with someone who looked exactly like you, then George punched Biff, and we danced, then the guy who was your double said the name Marty, which we liked but not enough to name our first son Marty, so we called you Marty..."
OMG. This felt like the Infinity War of Holden's channel/saga. Seeing how far have the characters came. Like Mat acting as the nerdy friend that explains twin pine jokes to Jen... Thank you guys for this beautiful present.
I count myself lucky to have seen this in theatre when it first came out.... most of the movies you do on your channel I have seen first run in theatres. My love of film was sparked by getting invited to go with my friends and their dad in his van, to the drive in in '77 to see a double feature.... "Star Wars" and "Damnation Alley"... I was 6 years old
