I know you are a die hard Raimi trilogy fan - but I just find the new movies so much better. Big thing is organic webs - I hate them. Takes away from Parker's brilliance in his creating his webshooters. He has one of the best minds in the Marvel universe. Did him dirty in that regard. Plus the goblin suit just never sat right with me. I've also been a Gwen over MJ guy so I felt his origin just wasn't done proper. Aunt May is way too old in these too. Haha I know you'll defend them but just my opinion. Love the channel and congrats on the engagement - I've been watching since the start of Matt watching star wars
Fun fact that I'm sure most fans are already aware of: Willem Dafoe actually had to BEG Sam Raimi for an audition for Norman Osborn because Raimi at first didn't think he fit the role. During the transformation to Green Goblin, Sam allowed Willem to basically "do his own thing to enhance the scene", and Willem obliged in the most amazing of ways.
@Tyco Zer0 I've seen a lot of people that have said that they recognised a meme, and it took them out of emotional scenes.. They can actually really destroy your experience sometimes.
Same, cant wait to see him return in No Way Home, his role is so iconic that you just cant replace him, just hearing his laugh in the trailer just got me so nostalgic and tearing up. Same for just Alfred Molina, just all iconic.
This was the first film I ever owned on DVD…after a long bout of joblessness, my family didn’t have much, but the advertisement of the DVD release was being played…we were still a family on VHS tapes, but the references of 10+ hours of bonus footage and features was a clincher in why my dad decided “y’know what, let’s get a DVD player for the family, and his 15th bday present will be the 2-disc set”…
From all the "My gf watches" that I've seen, you can clearly see how much Holden likes The og Spiderman movies, and how excited he is for Jen to watch them with him.

He was 25 making the film actually. People forget Tobey played an 18-23 year old Peter in his 3 movies. Its not as bad as Tom being 25 now and still playing a 15 year old after 5 movies lol.
@@bt3519 I think that Tom Holland' Spiderman is 17 years old, because Peter was 15 in Civil War and Infinity War is 2 years after that, so Peter should be 17 in the MCU now. So... a 25 year old playing a 17 year old.
Watched this in the theater the weekend after I graduated high school, with lots of family and friends. Everyone loved it. It is a great coming of age film and made me feel like taking on the world.
Holden: "I won't quote during the movie. I'll be quiet." Also Holden: *talks right over Danny Elfman's AMAZING Main Title Intro, one of THE best Marvel Logo moments ever.
People: *complain about Holden having "nostalgia goggles" for Spiderman 1 of Raimi Trilogy* Me: "Ya know, I have some nostalgia goggles for this movie myself."
The only people who say fans of the Raimi films have nostalgia goggles are the Tom Holland fangirls who get wet at the mere sight of him and ramble on about how "cute" they think he is.
@@WolfHreda Idk after seeing NWH, I actually liked how Andrew stood out from the other Spidermen. Tobey's still my fav tho cause his movies were better written and filmed by a visionary director. NWH shows that when Andrew has better material to work with, he can pull off a complex multi-layered Spidey
I agree. This was such a unique take on it but I was a kid when it came out and it became so natural to me that the inorganic webbing was weird at first when the newer movies started coming out.
Has Spider-Man never had organic webbing in the comics ? I know it was a thing the movie did but I thought Spider-Man 2099 had organic webbing but idk. Love this movie say what you will about the 3rd one but I like it lol aside from top her grace as Eddie

I can not even count the number of times I've seen this movie but but the way that was edited at 20:14 made think he actually jumped down and pulled his mask off in front of everyone for a second lmao, almost had a heart attack
One thing I love about this trilogy is how much character it has. Raimi really nailed the aesthetic and the feel. I also love the camera angles. Shame he didn't get to continue directing them.
Yes totally! These were the best Spider-Man movies. There are several reasons why. 1 of the reasons is because of Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Uncle Ben’s “with great power comes great responsibility” line and Aunt May’s “I believe there’s a hero in all of us” from the second movie.
I met him at Megacon this year. I asked if he were be willing to direct the next spiderman with Tom or even a fourth Toby film. He said he’s always down, Disney/Marvel just needs to let him know.
I think it was bad that they had him in high school yes it's the orgin but you could just do college could have played better Tobey as spiderman is great I think the writers kinda lose the peter parker side tom holland kinda has a good mix I think
Tbh most people's reasons for not liking Tobey's Spiderman are pretty dumb. Most can be attributed to memes and other stuff they seen on the internet. His movies are a good adaptation of the classic spiderman and show great respect for the source material and you actually see the progression through the 3 films whether it's him getting older and becoming and adult, or mastering his powers.
Something about Tobey rubs me the wrong way. I don’t like him as an actor in anything. Not sure why. He also seems way too old for the role. Regardless of the quality of the actual movie they are in, I like both of Tom and Andrew better as Peter.
He was the best Spider-Man. He played the “nerd” really well. Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker was confusing, he couldn’t decide if he wanted to be a “nerd” or a “skateboarding punk”

What’s funny is that for the 89 Batman movie, Danny Elfman did the music, he also did it for the entire raimi trilogy. The black suit theme in spider man three has a similar part to the Batman theme, it’s very cool
Really enjoyed this reaction. My wife and I saw this movie during our honeymoon back in 2002 while we were in Hilton Head. The theater lost power about half way through so we had to come back two days later and rewatch it. The movie still holds up today and I agree that Spider-Man 2 is an amazing movie. Keep up the great content!!!
The monologue scene with Willem Dafoe and the mirror made me a fan of his. Such amazing acting and he will always be my favorite Green Goblin no matter how many iterations there is

A lot of people hate on the campiness of the Raimi movies without realizing that it's intentional. Raimi was purposefully trying to evoke the campiness of the Silver Age era of comics, which is not only when Spider-Man first debuted, but is also the era that Raimi is most familiar with.
Definitely not an unpopular opinion thinking Toby Mcguire is the best. Its honestly an unpopular opinion that Tom Holland is the best, which is what I think. Also another unpopular opinion of mine is I believe the web shooters are better than it coming out of him. Regardless, great movie and I can't wait to see the Spiderman 2 reaction!
I'm pretty sure you're all backwards here. I think general consensus is Tobey is a good Peter, but Holland is a great mix of both. And most people agree that webshooters are better than the natural wrist thingy they did.
@@ceramiccoconut That 100% has never been my experience. Literally anytime ive said what i said ive gotten countless comments saying "Its an unpopular opinion for a reason" or some other variation. Very very rarely have I ever been supported by my opinion on this.
@@JamesWiseMagic odd, because the countless internetting I've done over the years has said the opposite. I've seen, by far, the opinion of "Tobey=good Peter, meh SM. Andrew=meh Peter, good SM. Tom=great both." I've even seen and said the same in other youtube comments to tons of likes and agreements. Reviews. Movie blogs. You name it. I've been in review crowd for well over 15 years, and I've hardly seen the intense Maguire love (outside SM2) and Holland dislike until I started following Holden.

I went to a soldout midnight premiere of Far From Home, someone yelled out, Toby Mcguire is best, everyone laughed, I yelled out in response that Holland was better and the crowd bood me. While the following for Holland is strong, all evidence I've seen points to the overall choice is Toby.

Other than that one thing Raimi SM is pretty accurate to the Silver Age SM comics. TASM meanwhile is the Ultimate Universe SM Comics mixed with 80s era SM comics. And the MCU is... not particularly accurate to anything (But Homecoming is still a good movie. Adaptations are allowed to be different and HC is a good enough movie to get by on that).
I loved Raimi back in the day. Not only did he have Bruce Campbell, but also his brother and Lucy Lawless. That made my 90s Xena/Hercules loving heart so happy. Super excited to see Raimi do modern MCU with Multiverse of Madness.

The animated tv series made me fall in love with Spiderman when I was a kid. These films solidified Spiderman as my favorite superhero of all time when I was a teenager and up to this very day.
Watching this again living in Queens NYC still is so nostalgic to see my city almost 20 years ago !! Who else feel the nostalgia and lives in Queens,NY 🤟🏼

Honestly, I'm fine with the "cute outfit" line. Spidey knows that Bonesaw is the typically insecure masculine figure, and implying that he isn't straight would get him mad and make him lose his cool. Pete at no point says it's a bad thing if he's gay, he just lets Bonesaw's personal biases infer the negative connotations.
Holden, don't listen to those people who want to diss your favorite older movie, Spider-man. I enjoy movies from the 1920's to the 1960's, that most movie goers today have never seen. Different times in filmmaking. Spider-man 2 is the best of the three Raimi Spider-man movies. I go back to Sam's Evil Dead days as a fan of his movies and television series. So bring on Spider-man 2!
The 20s-60s had such good movies too! I was on an Alfred Hitchcock binge the other day. Rear Window is such a classic and I love how everything just slowly builds up as the story progresses and you kinda have to put everything together yourself before the big reveal.
@@flatstheflounder2884 Rear Window is my favorite Hitchcock movie. It manages to be relaxing and thrilling, which is pretty impressive. And Spiderman 2 is one of the most well-rounded movies I've seen and is easily my favorite of those three.
Saw this in theaters with my parents, and we loved it! Sam Raimi's SPIDERMAN blew my mind! He will directing Doctor Strange and The Multiverse Of Madness for a 2022 release.
i’m a 00’ baby and i have a vivid memory of my mom taking my brother to go see spiderman in theaters (he’s a 90’ baby) and she couldn’t find a babysitter for me so she took me with them and i remember being there in the theaters, my mom holding me, watching the movie lol
I absolutely love Holden's enthusiasm! Especially in his reaction to No Way Home. I love geeking out with him. Even though we've never met, and never will. We live in different countries, but I just know.. Holden's my kind of dude. I think we'd get along well.

I think Jen’s reaction was EXACTLY how I remember audiences and critics reacting to this film when it came out, on just about every point. I think that’s pretty fair, especially given how much Holden hyped it and how many other excellent superhero films she’s seen that came out since this film was released. And she’s suitably excited for the sequel, what more can you want :)

20:24 I think during the whole Thanksgiving dinner the Green Goblin personality is in control instead of the Norman Osborn one which is why he looks at Aunt May like he wants to kill her before starting to cut the turkey and accusing Mary Jane of only being with Harry for his money.
Tobey McGuire is the op Spiderman. That's who I was introduced to as Spiderman for the very first time when I was a kid. A great childhood experience. 👍
