Just has my 3 year old SE BANG battery replaced today by the RAC on a garage forecourt as it failed completely without warning. Fortunately the RAC mechanic was an ex VW tech and he was aware of the problem ! SEBANG batteries are keeping the RAC in business !
Hello Sam Dont forget, if you go to Halfords...ensure they are able to 'register' the battery to the car. The car electronics have to know it is a new battery as the system alters it's charging procedures as the battety deteriorates. Just a note...I went to my dealer with the cheapest, nearest battery price quote and they matched it...that way I knew the car system was updated correctly.
Yea not sure if halfords could even do it, after having the same trouble with mine i got the battery myself and just drove into a vw specialist and he fitted it there and then for 25quid. Main dealers rob and most know very little when it comes to a R
I replaced the battery in my R with a AGM one , then coded the new type to the car with ODB11 . Got mine on the Black Friday sale for around £100 next day delivery and took around 15 minutes to swap it and I’m definitely no expert.
I am in two minds on whether or not to just replace this EFB battery........apparently their life expectancy is only 3 years which is rubbish! Let me know you thoughts in the comments below! 👍
Hi Sam my battery went on my golf R on Monday morning I rang vow assist they said the battery had gone he rang VW Canterbury took it over there they replaced it under warranty and mine wasn’t 2 years old .
Yes it was the second time this had happened but it’s sorted now so the car wasn’t two years old which isn’t very good for the battery but I was only doing small trips and that’s what the AA said doesn’t do the car any good.
Have you tried ctek charger on recond mode. May recover your battery. I have 2014 R still on original battery but periodically use ctek charger. I also have 2006 RS4 on its original battery and again have used ctek chargers. Worth a punt
I really need to start using car chargers but that's good to know you can recover a battery rather than just giving up on it completely. I think I will see what happens but will likely eventually just get a replacement AGM battery. Out of interest does your 2014 R have an AGM or a EFB battery?
It's an EFB. I always disable stop start function. ctek chargers have an excellent reputation. I have the mx5 model has a function for EFB/ AGM recharging. Lots less than a new battery
@@pauljames3514 I was thinking that start stop may have been the culprit! Getting stuck in London traffic it's on and off all the time but I am not a fan of just leaving the engine running for such a long time whilst not moving. I'll check out ctek but appreciate the advice 👍
