Hi Gale I found Dante and Hattie ate their food too fast. I put water in their food bowls too so it makes it like a soup. I also feed them 3 times a day to stop Dante shouting for his breakfast at 5AM. I'm so grateful to my dogs for keeping me sane during this pandemic. Dante was a great comfort to me the day after Christmas as my Dad passed away from Covid 19. All Dante wanted to do was snuggle up to me on the sofa. He is my best friend. Even Hattie came over an leaned on me. I hope you are keeping well and please make a big fuss of Lily for me. x
Greyt info! Well done my friend! 🙌 Oh the dreaded bloat foam. 😬 Sadly, I've seen it too many times with my Great Danes. 😢 I lost 2 to GDV and had 2 survivors. The Purdue bloat study was widely disputed by many Dane owner/breeders. The consensus was that it was not possible to find enough dogs NOT fed with raised feeders to statistically support the research, because nearly all Dane owners feed raised. 🤦♀️ The study was funded in part by the Great Dane Club of America. The conclusions regarding raised feeding, generally, were not well received. I've always fed raised, except for seniors with weak rears. For them I hold the bowl with them lying down. 😊 👍~ Kristine N Xander Greyhound 🐾
Kristine, I can’t even imagine going through that so many times. Thank you for filling me in on that study! All the time, when I’m researching for an article, dozens of dog bloggers just pass around the same quote; but I can usually find it and read the study. That one, I couldn’t!
@@GreyhoundHomecare Yeah, with Danes, it's a sad reality for it to become second nature to always be on the lookout for early bloat signs. I always kept a bloat kit at home and in my vehicle - still do. It's a horrible thing and I doubt we'll ever find answers to what causes it. Genetics most probably play a role. I've heard all the "reasons" for bloat which get shared on the internet, but none are based on good science. I've even heard that the full moon can cause bloat. 🤦♀️ All of my Danes who bloated were just having a normal day like any other. It strikes randomly so all we can do is try to be on alert and well prepared if it happens. I did have a number of my Danes "tacked" and that offered some peace of mind.
Susan, I’ve wondered about that - I had one really huge greyhound, Shannon, who made me so nervous in the way he handled tennis balls, I finally took them all away. He would pick one up with his front teeth, and then toss his head back, to move the back to his molars, where he could gnaw on it better. Feel free to add info anytime, please👏
