My Grief Journey, loss of Wife and best Friend

Life with Jack and Nicole

In this part of my journey I talk about how the loss of a wife or husband is also the loss of our best friend. When I lost Pam I began to reflect on my Grandmother Momma Lou and the loss she must have felt when Pappa Jack went to heaven at a fairly young age like Pam.

Lost my best of 40 years in December. Each day since has been emotional agony. At best an emotional roller coaster. We held hands for 40 years!

Lost my best friend last year. 53 years married. At my age I'm just getting through the days the best I can. My time will come in a few years and I can't hardly wait to see her again in Heaven. Grief is unbelievably hard, and should get a little bit easier. Best of luck to the younger ones starting a new life someday. As for me, memories, honoring her and my Lord, waiting to go Home someday.

I feel the same way, Rabick. I am just counting down the days until I can see my husband again. I have a chronic illness with debilitating pain, and it greatly shortens my life so I feel elderly. Any day now I could see my baby again.. and that is the hope that keeps me going another day.

So true Kevin.... I lost my wife of 25 yrs, 4 months and 8 days a year and 8 months ago (together 27 total). It definitely feels like you've lost yourself also. I struggle every day still knowing I can never see her again for a long time. I still catch myself sitting in bed sometimes for over an hour before I can get up and get going. I understand people die, and have dealt with so much death in my life, but NOTHING prepares you for this. It wouldn't be so hard if it wasn't for the circumstances of how it happened, and should not have happened. We are now in a legal you know what against the E and the R and thats all I can really say. All it does is make things 1000 times worse. She had just turned 44, 20 days prior to her passing away. I miss her so much my heart is just still broken in pieces. I used to be the hardest guy out there, but this has destroyed me. Through all this, God is the only thing keeping me going, plus our kids. GOD IS DEFINITELY GREAT 👍🏻

Yeah it's hard. I just lost my wife on 3/16 and it is not easy. We have 8 kids together and 5 grandchildren. We were married 8 years as of last New Year's eve. Every one around here said we would not make it 6 months. Because we were not even dating. We had simply been hanging out a couple days before Christmas. And then we were married by New Year's eve. Yeah when you lose your bestfriend wife mother and meme all of a sudden out of nowhere. It's hard to go anywhere or do anything. Because you went every where and done everything together.

I cried all through your video, I lost my wife less than a month ago. She was my best friend, my only friend. I can't stop crying. I have a huge hole in my heart, a vacancy inside me. I'm trying to move ahead, but this is unbearable. I am trying to keep her memory alive by doing some of the hobbies she had. I'm trying to climb out of this dark hole, but keep slipping back into it. Your video did help me, I'm not alone. Thank you.

Sure, we cry. It is good for us. My right arm is missing, he died. But I'm learning to use my left. That chair he sat in, is now mine. That bed he used as he lay dying, is mine now too. My dad taught me to read the Bible, but my sweetheart taught me to love the Word. We are not alone. This journey is worth every painful step. The memory stays alive all on its own. It's in how you carry on. I've been praying for all of us widow / widowers. Let's carry each other's burdens in that way, O.K.

I lost my wife over two weeks ago. She was also my best friend, she was only 50 when she passed and I’ll be turning 50 in a couple of months. I never, ever wanted to even picture my life without her, and now here it is. The pain is devastating, the silence deafening, the void she leaves behind is unfillable. But the one thing that keeps me going is the knowledge that one day she and I will be reunited. When it’s my time to meet my maker, she will be among the first to welcome me into Heaven. Take care of you and God Bless!

I feel every word of this. I lost my best friend.... my only truly friend... 4 months ago. My beloved husband and I were so, so cheated of life. He died only 3 years after we got married. He was the love of my life. We had waited 40 years to be together and find a love like this.. and then shortly after all of our prayers were answered.... they were crushed into ashes. He was the only person in the world that truly understood me and "got me". He was the only person in the whole world who truly had my back. Losing my husband was hard enough, but he was also my full time caretaker and my best friend in the whole world. Losing him has been like losing my own life. I feel so dead, broken, and empty inside. It's awful. He was only 53.. and just had so much life left to live. 😞 Lola sounds like a wise woman. Thank you Jack.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. Indeed, only 4 months does feel like you were cheated. At the same time my wife was only in her 50s and I too felt cheated. But then a friend pointed out that if you got one single day with the perfect soulmate it's a blessing. So...I guess we were both blessed but just not near as long as we wanted no matter the time.

Thanks Jack. I came across your VLOG just searching for other men who have lost their wife. For me all I needed for companionship was my wife. We were best friends as well and we both really did not have any other close people in our life other than family. I remember telling her all I want is my wife, my dog, and little place deep in the woods. Losing a friend and confidant is so much more difficult. No one to share the little things, talk to, bounce off ideas, dream. A list too numerous to mention every way that person was special to you. Now here I am over 2 1/2 years later, at Christmas time, I still feel like I'm just floundering. A time of year that was normally so joyous seems to have been lost. Sorry for feeling so sorry for myself, but I know I'm not alone. The hardest part is finding purpose and meaning. Even while my wife was sick I was able to take care of her and share in the part of life we are all destined. Now to find purpose and meaning in the world alone. I now have more freedom than I can imagine. The kids are grown and I have no other responsibility than for myself. Making decisions on the next step are hard because there is no one to think out loud with and explore possibilities. I resist and don't want to try and find a new best friend and really just want to learn to happy alone and be my own best friend. Then maybe I can be find a new path and purpose for the rest of my time on earth., and then be the best person I can be for others. It is a journey and will take time. Thanks for listening. and Thanks Jack for this forum to help with this grieving process.

Lost my wife, best friend, and soulmate in July 2022 after 21 years of marriage. She was just 47, and died suddenly and unexpectedly. It has been just devastating, by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to endure in my life. The grief waves and the anxiety sometimes become nearly unbearable, but I have to hold it together for my kids (who are still teens). I know I’m not alone, and my thoughts are with Jack and all the commenters here who have suffered such loss. Stay strong!

Well Brain I feel your pain, I lost my wife five weeks ago, and just don’t know how to continue with life. I have cried every day for five weeks and the pain is just unbearable. We were together for 42 years and she was best supporter , my best friend, we had a great love life, but best of all, I thought she would always be there for me , with her support. I just don’t know where to turn , I know I will never find someone who will love me like that. There are days I can’t get out of bed, because when she was up before me , she would come over and give me a kiss to wake me up, oh how I miss that. All I want to do is give her the biggest hug and never let go. They say it takes time to ease the pain, but the way I feel nothing can ease the pain. I hope you can get through this , All the best!

I very suddenly and unexpectedly lost my husband 35 days ago. He, too, was my best friend and the rock in my life. We were together for a total of 22 years. I had been with my husband since I was only 18 years old and I'm now 40 (41 next month), so over half my life and my entire adult life. He was 11 years older than me, but despite our age gap, we had an almost instant connection and bond and we very quickly fell in love. The rest is history. We have rarely been apart in these last 22 years. We did just about EVERYTHING together. He was always there for me to lean on and we had such a strong unconditional love for each other. Nothing could ever tear us apart. Any tough situation we faced, we always knew it would be okay because we had each other. I miss him so much it physically hurts. We were soulmates. When you said that you not only lost your wife, but your best friend, I completely broke down in tears beacuse I feel the exact same way. My husband was much too young to go. He had just turned 52 only 3 weeks before he passed. I don't know how I am supposed to move forward without him. I don't know a life without my husband and I've NEVER been alone. Whenever I try to imagine my future without him, I am overwhelmed with anxiety and fear. He was my entire world and I'm just so, so lost. :(

I lost my wife to cervical cancer today after 1 year of fighting it. She's my best friend my only friend. It hasn't really hit yet but I know it's coming. I wish I could've switched places with her so she didn't have to deal with any part of it. It's so difficult without her. Memories, more pain, more pain, and more pain start start to kick in because you start thinking about all the little detailed things. Then you start to realize even more that you won't hear that voice anymore, no more love, hugs, or kisses anymore. There's so much pressure on your heart, it's literally crushing. To see her yesterday in hospice not even coherent, just laying there trying to breathe and you can't do shit for her is probably the worst feeling someone could ever feel. Then it's just you alone trying to figure out if you want to even try to attempt to live a life without your life. I miss you babe, I love you so much baby FOREVER AND A DAY!! Much love to all the women/everyone out there who fight these sicknesses head on. STAY STRONG, NEVER GIVE UP! I miss you babe!!

I lost my best friend of 35 years this past January. I can so relate to this VLOG, as the hardest part for me in my grief is losing the person I shared everything with - mu highs, my lows and someone who knew me better than me. Losing that has been and continues to be painful. Since like many, we were together since HS and she passed at such a young age (51) - growing up together and being one another's soulmate for 4 decades is impossible to ever recreate, and the only thing that comforts me ten months later is how absolutely grateful I am that I got to have her in my life for the time I did. The real tragedy would have been never being together; our time together truly will fulfill my life for the rest of my days.

I put that out of my mind and know that she would want me to move on and forward. With God's help l can do this. Again Thank you and God bless.

i came across your touching comment in the death of love ones post here on you tube. Well am really sorry about that okay 😒☹️and I know how it feels to be lonely without our love ones, we've all lost our love ones in death one way or the other, either a spouse, child, family members, or a true friend that meant the world to us, such is life I understand how you feel but life must move on because death is inevitable no matter how hard we try! And we'll all have to face it someday..

Hi Roger, needless to say I do understand your pain and am so very sorry you have lost your soul mate too. Not sure if you listen to podcast or not but I have a program where I produce much more grief related content than what you find on our RU-vid channel. It's called "Love Letters to Pam" - The Jack Church. Just maybe it can provide a little comfort from time to time. You can download from any of the major podcast providers or simply go online to this link and listen there. Thank you again for sharing. anchor.fm/jack-church

Your honesty is breath taking. I cant believe I found you Jack. You melt my heart as I can empathise and relate to your loss. I find it really hard talking to people about my partners death but with hearing your experiences I feel the emotions that I feel are human. Lola was so right, those are the choices you have to make. Look after yourself and thank you so much. Blessing to you always.

My wife of 10 years died last October due to stroke. I have a lot of regrets as I never really had the chance to take care of her as I have to work to be able to provide her meds and therapy. I would always cry whenever I'm alone.

Thank you Brett for checking in with my videos. You are still very early in the grieving process and over time it will slowly get a little better. Just be kind to yourself and don't let anyone try and tell you what you should or should not be doing. That's part of being your own best friend. In the meantime I want to invite you to check out my podcast which is available from all the major podcast providers. It's called "Love Letters to Pam - The Jack Church show." I do regular messages there while here on the RU-vid channel I do occasional grief support videos but more on travel and cooking. I lost my beautiful wife Jill and she was only 58 years old. After being in law enforcement for 36 years I collapsed at work and it was hospitalized for a day and Jill talked me into retiring so I agreed to do that right away. We've been married for almost 34 years and she was worried about losing me. The day after that my wife fell and broke her leg and we took her to the hospital and had her leg set and on the way home she went to heaven just two days after I retired due to health reasons. Jill apparently had a blood clot that went to her heart caused by the broken leg. She was the absolute love of my life on this Earth and I feel like my heart has been ripped out and I am coming on the third anniversary of losing her to heaven. I thought it was maybe get a little easier but it has not. Jill was my very very best friend and we took care of each other because she had muscular dystrophy in later life and I had heart problems from being in so much stress for so many years. The paramedics worked on my wife alongside of the road trying to bring her back and then transported her to the hospital the doctor tried to bring her back but it had been too long and they asked me what I wanted them to do I told them to let her go to the Lord because she had been through so much on the Earth so they did. I stumble around every day without her and have wished to die. Sometimes grief hits me so hard because I miss her so so much. Within two and a half years I lost five close relatives including my wife and it literally feels like I've been run over. I'm a Christian and I know God promised that we who have accepted the Lord Jesus as our savior and absolute only payment for sin will be together with our loved ones that have gone ahead but until then it is so painful that words to not describe it. My daughter was trying to have our first grandchild and the grandchild came after my wife went to heaven I so wish that she could have seen her. It's so adds to the grief that she did not. The Lord said that we're not married in heaven and I don't know what that means we always wanted to be together worshiping the Lord forever in heaven and I hope the Lord lets us be together worshiping him. I so look forward to seeing my Lord Jesus and then sing my wife and family members that have gone on a head but in the meantime it hurts so bad

Scott, I am so very sorry for your loss and the great pain you are experiencing. It does seem the deeper the love the deeper the pain and loss. I can tell you it slowly gets better but even after 2.5 years I still have a good cry every few days. I do believe there is some comfort gained by all of us sharing our stories and realizing we are not alone on this journey. You mentioned marriage in heaven which I recently did a podcast on this very subject. Not sure if you have had a chance to check out my podcast but I produce programs there on a much more regular basis than I do my videos. It's called "Love Letters to Pam" - The Jack Church Show and is available from all the major podcast providers like Spotify, Apple, iHeart etc. Or, you can go to this link and listen online. anchor.fm/jack-church

The best advice I can give is to just let them talk about their wife as much as they want to. Never, ever avoid the subject. Our loved one may not be here on earth anymore but they remain part of lives forever. We love when people ask us things about our wives or husbands. Needless to say I do understand their pain.
