This is why this channel is great! Ola don’t speak always about his SOLAR guitar! He love the instruments, he like all the fine made guitar..And in perspective you appreciate more Solar guitar because of the humility of the genuine person behind his own brand.👍🏻
You need a screwdriver with a very long thin shaft so you can be at the right angle for your claw screws dude, that way the heads don't get chewed up over time.
Yeah dude. English does have that phrase too 😊 We talk about dotting the i's and crossing the t's 😊 Beautiful guitar! You said the neck is nicer than the black one you posted a photo of. In my opinion yours also looks a lot nicer too. (Others may have different opinions... 😜)
I love that Ola still showcases other brands besides his own. Fender, Ibanez, Dean , and Washburn. A great guitar is a great guitar no matter the name.
I absolutely love my Universe. Awesome guitars. It's really what started the whole extended range popularity in rock and metal. They feel great, they look great, and most importantly they sound great. Favorite guitar.
Ola....I used to play guitar back in the early 80's into early 90's. I had my first guitar back in middle school, or what the EU would call secondary school. My father paid for lessons for me to learn how to play. Being a early teenager and already feeling that i knew "everything", i stopped my lessons and tried to learn on my own. Well...I guess you know where that went. That didn't stop me from buying new gear and pretending to be that "rock star". I have always loved guitar, and your videos have i guess, relighted a passion in me to pick up the guitar again at age 50 just to play again. I have no idea where this will go for me but, i thank you for the inspiration that you bring to guitar and music.
The edge is designed so that it looks like its not level to the body when it is actually level. You have to look at the actual plate that is resting on the posts and make sure that its level. So many people make this mistake.
Yup. I always went by the knife edge’s outer edge where they are inserted into the bridge plate. Usually at the bridge height I had them set at, the edge of the edge would lay parallel with the body.
I wanted to mention that also. Yes the base plate is the level you want. Also, when installing the springs, start with the pin in the block then put the ring of the spring second. Way easier.
Not sure what you are describing here? The whole bridge should be level, definitely not like it is here initially. But you were probably talking about something different. Was just wondering. 🤘🏻🎸
@@heyjarrod Ibanez has a V shape to their bridges. the leveling mark is a small metal plate showing on the side of the bridge on the bass side. it appears as a 1/2" long line on the side of the bridge. level the line, not the surface of the bridge.
Awesome guitar! Recently got into 7 string myself after 20 years of playing. What really got me though was your interaction with your daughter... I mean that in the sense that, for alot of dads (not all of course but I'd imagine quite a few) that would have been an "I'm too busy right now moment" but you took the time to walk over and acknowledge the work she did! Hat's off to you sir from one dad to another!
Honestly never listened to much of Steve's music but I totally agree with you Ola about something very spiritual about about him almost like he knows something about the universe that the rest of haven't grasped yet or maybe don't have the ability to grasp. Very kickass guitar btw and loved the story that goes with it.
Great story. As having lived in Norway myself and driven there I can imagine the conversation, hopefully as the snow quietly fell and the quietness of snow added a focus to Steve's words of wisdom. I have always desired a Jem floral print, maybe one day :)
I usually set my fine tuners like this: E screwed in deeper than centre, A above centre, D below, G above, B at centre, and high E above centre. I find that puts the fine tuners basically level after clamp down and fine tuning, which pleases my OCD. It also gives maximum range and function to the tuners.
a 7 string guitar..WITH A FLOYD! wow.. And a good story to go with it too. "The one that got away"..but you got one back! and can now bask in the glory once again
I have to say, the 90's Universes', Jems and RG550's are the same of the best guitars Ibanez has ever released. Square heels or rounded neck joints they were perfect. The Original Wizard necks had the best feel and unmatched even to this day. Great video Ola. Would love to see more ibanez love.
Truly killer guitar. Cool to see it signed by the lord and saviour himself. I just completed my Ibanez trifecta and hopefully I’ll have my own universe one day. Great vid and thank you for consistent & quality content
Hey Ola long time listener, first time caller; the method you use to set your floating trem is why they got that bad rep as being a pain in the a**. To make it as easy as possible here's the steps: (say you use the strings already on the guitar and the guitar is in tune or close to)1- crank the screws at the back of the guitar so that springs tension make the pitch go way sharp. 2- find somthing to block the bridge at the angle you think is ideal (i use play cards as i can adjust thicknes with precision), 3- tune the guitar to pitch, 4- slowly release springs tension to ''free'' what you use to block the bridge, check tuning and fine tune using spring tension. Et voila!
@Vex Eon I can't work or anything dude, I have to take care of my younger siblings (had to drop out from school), mom is always 10 days late on bills bc she only gets paid 7 per hour. So impossible for me, but I'm glad others can enjoy my dream guitar, what a lucky fella. Cheers!
Petrucci Jr so your dream guitar is the Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Majesty? Well, it’s one of my dream guitars too. I’m hoping to buy my first Electric Guitar soon. I hope i can get a Jackson RR24 (though its discontinued) in Snow White as i’m a metalhead and i live in Asia. So, no Solar Guitars, or Keisel Guitars for me as they require you to order online. :)
@@petruccijr2270 Know your pain bro. Economy in my country is terrible, even without the pandemic. I just paid off a loan i got a year ago to buy ltd 1000.
What a wonderful story, Ola, thank you for sharing it. I was a fan of Vai as well and came from that 80’s-90’s era where he was the top dog. I’ve mellowed out since studying classical guitar like taking a European holiday in the arts. I’ve also had guitars I regretted selling, a 2013 Gibson Les Paul Standard and a 2011 EVH Wolfgang Special I spent a lot of time playing and have multiple recordings of on TLF as a solo project on reverbnation. I’ve tried newer versions of the EVH but they were not as welcoming to play. I didn’t like the newer model because the whammy bar seemed to knock on the wood.
Exactly...plus, you should always check the tuning in the "playing" position for a floating trem!...gravity changes the pitch as soon as you pick the guitar up
@@tubesoupio Good call. When tuning, just the act of leaning forward with the guitar hanging from your body to look at the tuner will effect the tuning. Always stay in playing position when tuning.
I like to take a few pennies and stack them up then tape them together with scotch tape so they don't move. Set the floyd so it's flush and stick the penny stack behind the block and I wrap more tape until it's a snug fit. Keeping the string tension I loosen the springs a lot. Change strings one by one and set the fine tuners to have travel in both directions. Tune new strings to pitch and stretch them by bending and pulling on them a bunch of times. Tune to pitch and bend a bunch over and over till they stay in tune. Lock the nut down on all the strings. Put tension back on the springs slowly until the penny stack can be pulled out (but not so much tension that the penny stack falls out) and then you're done. 6 string guitar with a set of 9-42 and 3 springs on the claw and you'll be able to flutter pretty well. You can flutter with a heavier gauge set of strings, just not as much or as easily.
OLA! YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS INFO! All these comments about how to set up a Lo Pro Edge and nobody even liked or responded to this comment. Guitar tech says: this is the correct way to change string gauge, tuning, or reset the angle on a Floyd. The only thing I did different was use wood blocks cut and sanded to fit both sides of the sustain block so it doesn’t move in either direction before adjusting spring tension. For guitars my blocks didn’t fit, some pickguard material or even picks stacked up worked fine. Tape on the coins might have more give to it than one might want, but if it’s working for you, I cast no aspersions.
@@meatsmudge5349 I forgot to mention that I stack as many pennies as I can until they don't fit the gap, then I remove 1. There isn't much tape needed after that. It doesn't compress enough to really make a difference. But I guess it could compress if someone used a lot of tape.
Edge trem: knife edges have to be level with the body. Not the base plate. The 5 th spring was useless. It's under more tension than needed.. The 4 springs were sufficient
Luckily I own an original Universe UV7BK GreenDot, as well as a JEM 777VBK (I just like the green theme) and they're by far my two favorite guitars to play. Funny that they also have a sentimental value to me.
Thats awesome about Vai. I saw him with Alcatraz in 85 at the Rainbow in Denver. Talas with Billy Sheehan opened up. Just after that they went to the DLR band.
God that PWH is sick. I own a green dot and was NOT expecting such a mojo-filled machine. I was just expecting another good MIJ Ibanez but there was something going on when Ibanez first made these guitars. It’s my favorite neck profile to date.
I had one of the early black and green Universes, as well as a 7620 later on. Eventually traded both of them, I used to change gear so much back then. So much stuff I'd love to have back...
In Spanish, when we say that we have "put the dots over the ies (to somebody)" it means that we have made something extremely clear, normally in tone of repehension or to prevent something to happen. Anyway I understood your expression at first! What a beautiful thing languages are, my Svenska friend! :D
i want one universe buck the black and green since i was 10 and my uncle show me passion and warfare ... he showed me a magazine with steve and that guitar ... i loved it
I ordered a white universe back in '91. Waited weeks for it to arrive but when it did, it turned out to be a multi-coloured one. They couldn't get a white one. I kept it up until about 10 years ago, needs must and it had to go. Regret selling mine too but always longed for the white one. Keep it safe Ola...
I have the Bright green UV777GR! The one with the maple neck, tri-color pyramids! My friend in Thought Industry Paul, had the white version! I love mine!
Ibanez all day long for me and yours sounds killer. I'd gladly walk past every Fender in the shop to have an Ibanez. It's kind of sad though where the music industry is going. There will never be another Vai or Satriani.
Ibanez Edge trems have an angle to the top of the plate. To make sure the bridge angle is correct look at where the knife edge is inserted and have that parallel to the top of the guitar.
Man, nothing beats the sound of those dimarzio blaze pups. They just sound so damn nasty!! They have been on so many influential albums in the past. People bash em, but I bought a set an put them in my rgd2127 and nothing beats that sound. So brutal
Bridge angle was correct man!!! thoes bridges are suppose to be angled a bit. It totally did not need a 5th spring that would make the tension super high and the Floyd movement pretty hard. But ola is the man !!! hire a tech ola !!!
I have been thinking about getting an Ibanez seven String Universe made in Korea version of this guitar and this video is helps. FOr the last 35 years I have been an Ibanez guy. I have tried other guitars like Jackson and ESP but I keep coming back to Ibanez because in my opinion they are the best guitars. Right now I have two Prestige six strings and I am looking to finally getting a seven string. I know it has only been 35 years. So, thanks for making this video, but I also like your video on the Jackson Jeff Loomis seven string. Those are my two choices right now and without playing that Jackson I cannot make up my mind for sure, but I do know you cannot go wrong with Ibanez.
Hi Ola..im a good frien of Ormsby in OZ...i hope u get this...i just want to say that Cannible Corpse tone u did was bloody awesome mate...back in "93" we used the jcm900 anniversary cabs...""deep and heavy as fu$ to lift up the steps...but the ol mt2....any valve amp really...jcm 900 or 800....thanks 4 posting ur vid...i listened to the bleeding and 6feets all night after that...im so old skool and its the perfect saturation in my opinion...as is Chris's vocal just merge like a nun on a sunday....cheers from Australia...keep the vids coming xo
Great story, amazing guitar! My therapy is working on my guitars too. I love it. I also have that At War With Reality tour shirt you’re wearing - I love ATG. Stay safe
